Advantages: Even coverage
Disadvantages: Doesn't stay put for 16 hours
Rimmel mousse
Always being a bit of a sucker for trying out new make ups, I bought this recently because I am going through a bit of a preference for mousse type foundations.
~~Promises, promises...~~
As with most beauty products, this makes certain promises, and obviously has some secret or revolutionary formula. For this make up, it's a revolutionary aquacool formula which promises to keep skin matte for up to 16 hours. Apparently, this make up with the airlight mousse texture will blend easily and feel comfortable for the whole day. No mean feat because it's supposed to be non transferable for 16 hours.
~~Product and Packaging~~
The mousse comes in a small glass tub with a black screw on/of lid. All details and information are either on the side of the tub or the lid top.
When I first open the tub, I see the mousse exactly as I like these type of products- untouched and brand new. The mousse has a very slightly perfumed smell but nothing too strong or off putting; however, for anyone liking completely odour free products, be aware that there is a definite scent.
When I put my finger in the mousse to apply to my face, it does feel ever so slightly sticky, and definitely has a dry non runny texture. However, it does feel as though it is going to be fairly moisturising as it is quite thick.
I apply the mousse with fingertips (this maybe should be done with those make up sponges but I have never learnt the art!) and it glides onto my skin evenly, easily and smoothly. It does feel quite dry when I put it on, and I thought at first that it would be just "sitting" on my skin, but it does actually moisturise as it goes on. There is none of that sitting on the surface of the skin, and looking patchy.
So, the mousse is on, and my face is feeling nicely matte- no shiny bits and no need for powder. How does it stand up to the rigours of the day? The mousse does stay on remarkably well considering I am the type of person who doesn't usually manage to keep make up perfectly applied... if I need to rub my face, make up or no make up, then I have to just do it! There is no random wearing off of the mousse, and I would say that it does last well, although I don't know whether this is 16 hour coverage.
~~Price and Availability~~
The mousse costs £5.99 for an 80g tub of the product, so not an expensive product.
It's available at chemists and in larger supermarkets, and can also be bought online at www.boots.com (look out for special offers!)
~~Colours available~~
This is available in 7 shades: Ivory, Soft Beige, Classic beige, True Nude, Natural Beige, warm Honey and Bronze. The shades are in varying colours from very light to dark, and obviously it's best to try them out before buying.
~~Made by~~
Rimmel, London. SW19 4DR
Lots of product information is available on the website, www.rimmel.com
~~Verdict~~
For the price, I do think this mousse is remarkably good value. Anyone preferring a mousse type foundation with a medium and not overly heavy coverage should find a colour to suit.
It does apply easily and gives me a nice even coverage which lasts as well as can be expected given the circumstances of me being in and out of doors quite randomly. Without any powder to "set" the product, this stays on my face and feels as though it gives me some protection against the quite savage elements. It does feel dry when it goes on but is obviously offering some moisturising properties because I suffer no drying effects.
I like the fact that it is in a tub because it means that I can get my finger in and use the mousse right down to the very last dregs... not a bit of wastage! The only problem I have is the fact that the tub is glass and I always worry about smashing glass, but that really is a minor gripe.
For an easy to apply, reasonably priced and effective product, I would recommend this for everyday use.
Thanks for reading.

- 28/12/07 I've only ever tried the maybelline mouse one and found it dried my skin out but I did like the look it gave when freshly applied so maybe this is one for me to try out!
Great review x |
