Rimmel Hide The Blemish Concealer

Disadvantages: Limited choice of shades
**A Definate Handbag Essential**(providing you can get a good match to your skin tone or usual foundation)
I take my 'Sand' shade of Rimmel concealer everywhere with me! In my handbag it goes for walking to the shop, work, the park, everywhere! I wouldn't' want to be without it! - I've even got spares that are for emergency use should I lose my little lifesaver.
I've never really had a problem with spots, but like everyone get the odd ones now and then. Naturally without make up, I have quite fair and blotchy pinky skin and I have a lovely light pink non raised birthmark on the end of my nose. You'd never know though, thanks to my concealer. Infact, when people see me without concealer the first thing they comment on is my pinky mark on my nose (not all people, but a fair few have). ' 'YESSSSSss, its a birthmark'*Groan* comes my reply. It's not a spot, I haven't banged it or been messing with it... it's just a wee lil birthmark and i'm fortunate that its only light pink and not a whopping bright red (unless I get sunburnt on it!!!!) At least I know my concealer is doing its job well and hiding my lil light pink secret.
I've used this same concealer for years and get pretty worried sometimes incase they decide to discontinue it, purely because no other concealer works as well with my skin. I'm not a huge make up wearer by any stretch but 3 items I like to have in my handbag incase get stuck somewhere, are my concealer, eyeliner and lipbalm. They are my make up essentials. Add to my faves, Rimmel Stay Matte foundation as well and my pricey YSL touché eclait, ooo and a bit of waterproof mascara. I don't carry those ones around with me though.
**Conceal those spots, blemishes and under eye circles **
..... is what's stated on the beige lipstick tube packaging. I totally agree with this statement although would say that as to how well it works is dependent on your original skin colour and any foundation that you wear.
**Test the shades and match it to your usual foundation rather than skin tone, unless you don't' wear foundation**
For example, there are several shades (quite limited) that you can choose from. If you are very pale and don't wear any foundation and then you choose a golden beige coloured concealer, this is going to look rather daft as it wont blend into your natural skin tone. You will be left with obvious golden marks on each and every blemish that you've tried to hide. All you will have accomplished is actually highlighting them even more.
However, if you firstly use a foundation to give yourself a bit of a golden glow, or you have a golden fake tan, then obviously your concealer is going to blend in easier.
Again if you wear dark make up and buy a light concealer to match your natural skin tone, it's going to stand out like a sore thumb once you've applied your make up.
There isn't a shade for each and every skin tone but the select few do match most foundations and you can get away with being a shade or two out. I wear soft beige Rimmel Stay Matte foundation and use 'SAND' rimmel concealer. The two match well.
**Simple application/Discreet tubing**
Just like how a lipstick works, the concealer winds up and down from the base. You basically apply it straight to the spot or blemish and I then use a finger to blend it into my skin. It's very creamy, light and smooth to the touch and doesn't weigh the skin down.
**Moisturise, apply foundation and then conceal**
My routine is always, wash, moisturise, apply foundation and then hide any blemishes left with the concealer. It works a treat! You MUST blend it in though but its really easy to do. You can pretty much fully hide a nasty looking spot, especially one thats in a really easy to spot place like in the middle of your forehead or end of your nose. I use this for not only covering my lil birthmark but also redness that i tend to get around my nostrils. If i get the odd blemish on my chest as well or neck, it works very well!
**Can be used to quickly cover awkward blemishes without the need for a full make up routine ALL the time**
(if you can match the shade up to your skin, that is) .... I'm quite lucky with the shade I have in that it matches my skin tone and foundation, so if I've had a bath and washed all foundation off and I have an emergency whereby I need to get ready and get out again, I can quickly apply a dab of concealer on maybe one or two blemishes id rather hide, and there's no need for my full make up routine.
There have been times i've been stuck at the hospital without any make up, looking pretty haggard from having been up all night, and i've been thankful for my lil concealer friend in my handbag. It works well as using for foundation actually if you apply it in streaks to your whole face and rub it in. It's ok for an emergency anyway.
**Good for under eye circles?**
Not in my case unfortunately. I had to opt for something alot lighter and more expensive (Yves Saint Lauren Touche Eclait) which is a wonderful highlighter for under eye dark circles. I find the concealer too heavy for the sensitive skin under the eyes, but then I do have sensitive skin and really DARK circles under my eyes as well as puffy (unfortunately!)
**Lasts all day**
.....unless you are in the habit of rubbing your face frequently, in which case you'd start to rub it off your spots, but for me I apply it in the morning and all blemishes are still hidden before I take it off in the evening.
I wouldn't lend this to others purely for the hygiene factor. You wouldn't want to be applying someone else's blotches and grub to your face - blurgh!
The tip of the concealer can get a bit grubby from time to time so I tend to clean my daily with a tissue, just to ensure its always clean before i apply it to my face! This prevents you actually spreading dirt and grime to other areas of your face which will actually end up causing spots!
**Softens in hot weather**
... so pop it in the fridge to keep it easier to apply! Once it heats up it becomes a bit too thick and messy for application.
Summary: It goes everywhere with me! wouldnt' be without it!
