Rimmel Crack Your Colour Crazy Black Graffiti
Advantages: Well it's black like the bottle says
Disadvantages: Poor scratchy look to pattern
I recently decided that I wanted to purchase one of those nail varnishes that 'cracks up' and had a look in Tesco whilst I was there doing the shopping. I didn't know which brand I wanted but I knew I didn't want to spend too much as I'm really trying to save the pennies again, but a girl needs to treat herself every so often.
That's when I noticed on the Rimmel stand their range of nail polishes called Crack Your Colour. They only one they had was called Black Graffiti which, as you've guessed, is black. The price for this was £2.99 which I thought was very good for a Rimmel nail polish.
The lid on the bottle, as you can see from the photo, shows a kind of animal print effect. To get the best effect from this varnish you first paint your nails in a contrasting colour and then once dried paint on the Crack Your Colour. I decided to paint my nails in a bright purple colour as I knew this would look excellent against the black.
The brush on this is smaller then others I have used but is wider so was very easy to apply. Before applying I'd read online that you only apply one coat and have to make sure that each stoke of colour doesnt' overlap. I cannot stress this point as I did overlap slightly and it just left a blobbly black mess on my nail so I had to remove this and start again.
There was no magic transformation in front of my eyes but within a few minutes of having applied the polish I noticed that my nails looked as if someone had dragged a pin over them and removed some of the colour, achieving what I can only described as a scratchy effect. It looked nothing at all like the animal print on the bottle top. I know things don't always look exact, but this was too different.
I wasn't pleased with the overall effect but I thought it was different and decided to keep it on for my night out. When I showed off my nails to a friend they just said they were OK, not really the response I was hoping for.
All the articles I'd seen online raved about the Nail Effects Paint by Barry M so I decided to purchase one of these to see if it really was any better and I'm pleased that I did. The difference between the two products is amazing and really shows the Rimmel Crack Your Colour to be a inferior copy. In my mind this just showed that sometimes quality does come with a price and I fell that I have wasted £2.99.
If you want dazzling nail effects with very little effect, then don't purchase this. For £1 extra you can purchase the wonderful Barry M Nail Effects Paint and be very proud of your nails. (Check out my review of Barry M Nail Effects Paint)
Summary: Sometimes it's best to spend an extra £1 and this product is the proof
