Advantages: Good coverage, easy to use, does add volume to lashes, nice black colour.

Disadvantages: Expensive, doesn't add length to the lashes, not unique results.

Yesterday, I was wandering around Superdrug looking for something new to try, I fancied some make up, but with loads to choose from, I couldn't decide. I then saw an advert for the new Rimmel Day 2 Night mascara, and it looked really good, so then thought I'd give it a go, and as I was curious how it worked, with the 2 brushes in 1 tube, looked slightly confusing!

The product is black and pink, with the writing on mascara white and pink. The mascara has a "magic" double cap, with one cap having the brush that improves volume and one that improves length. The pink handle wand improves the volume, which has the bigger brush, and the black handle improves length with a thin brush. Rimmel claims the product will gives lashes "12x more volume" and "75% more length", which sounds pretty great really! I have to say using the word magic in the description is abit weird, as it isn't magic (sorry to ruin it!), the volume brush (pink handle) incorporates both brushes to improve volume, while length just uses the one brush. The mascara comes in 2 shades: Brown Black and Jet Black, I'm reviewing the Jet Black shade.

Using the product is very easy, despite looking confusing, you just twist the cap you want (pink is volume and black is length), and apply the mascara to your lashes. The volume brush is quite thin, compared to other mascara brushes, and has twisted groves over the brush, but the big thing about this brush is a lot more mascara comes off on this brush compared to the length brush, so I would always use this brush for the initial coat of mascara. The length brush is slightly thicker then the volume brush, as it has both brushes connected, and very similar to the other brush, it has groves going up the brush. While speaking to a friend in America, she told me that the colours of handles are reversed on the ones sold in there, so bare that in mind in case some are sold in the UK.

Applying the length and volume mascara brushes separately was really easy, it was the same as any other mascara and the brushes were really suitable for my eyelashes, as they weren't to harsh for my eye lashes. The volume brush applied the colour to my lashes really easily, just one application gave decent colour coverage, but any more applications my lashes became really clumpy, which isn't the look I wanted, so I would recommend just one application. The volume brush did add abit of volume for my lashes, but not as much as I expected, but still it worked! The length brush did add colour to my lashes (when using on bare eyelashes), but wasn't as much as the volume brush, which is probably why Rimmel have branded this the "day" mascara, as it is perfer and subtle for the day. Length wasn't noticeable improved using this brush.

I'm not sure if your meant to use the brushes together (eg, apply the volume mascara then the length mascara) but I thought I'd give it a go, and was quite happy with the results. The volume was much improved, they looked much thicker and more obvious, but the length was again disappointing, as noting happened. The colour coverage was really nice, the black was a gorgeous colour and the coverage was smooth, but can easily go clumpy because of the amount of mascara the volume brush has. Although I am happy with the mascara, I have to say, it is good, but not better then any other mascara, I have tried many mascaras that give the same or similar results in improving volume. Good but not unique.

I would recommend the mascara, it gives a brilliant coverage to lashes with a really gorgeous Jet Black colour, and decent volume improvement, but really it isn't any different to any other brand or even any other Rimmel mascara's, which is the major downfall.

Rimmel Day 2 Night mascara is available at some bigger supermarkets, Boots and Superdrug and some other pharmacists and costs £7.99. Way to expensive for what it is.

Summary: I'll just get a cheaper brand next time!
