Rimmel Glam Eyes Mono Eyeshadow
Advantages: Easily applied/blended, nice colour, long lasting, strong casing, plenty colours.
Disadvantages: Expensive at full price, not crease free, applicator is pretty rubbish.
I don't use eyeshadow very often to be honest but I do like to have a selection of them in my make up box should the mood ever take me. I have used all manner of brands from Rimmel to Boots Naturals, E.L.F to Maybelline and I haven't really found that one brand is best at delivering. Since my local Poundland starting stocking branded make up my box has increased in contents and one of the items I have is this Rimmel glam eyes mono palette. When I got mine there were a range of colours from browns to deep blues to purples and I went for a deep blue. As garish as it sounds and as 80's as I have been led to believe it is blue eyeshadow along with pink is the ideal colour for me as it brings out the blueness of my eyes so my huge faux pas I believe is wearing blue eyeshadow but hey, it was £1 and it looks ok so I'm not going to complain.
As I got this is Poundland it came packaged in a simple cellophane bag that was easily opened via the sticky strip at the bottom of the packaging to give me the Rimmel palette. There is no information given and so when I looked up this palette online I came across Rimmel's goals for the product, that it's crease resistant and long lasting which being honest I didn't hold out too much hope. The palette itself is simple with a transparent window to see the eyeshadow contained within the plastic casing with the overall plastic being black. I like the window as if you have a few of these it lets you see the colours easily without having to remove the lid to see the contents. It does come with a very small black applicator but honestly I am not a fan, it's rough and low quality and I use a regular eyeshadow brush instead but this is handy if you're out and about so I suppose it has it's merits. The clasp which holds the case closed works well and it hasn't come undone or broken whilst in my make up box but then it hasn't really been bashed around or anything so it may be different is this were in a make up bag. Initially the case looks sleek and clean but over time and use it becomes discoloured and the window just looks a bit messy in my opinion.
I use a primer for my eyelids before applying eyeshadow, I have 2 facial primers and a specific eyelid primer which is the one I use to give the colour a base. The colour is very pigmented and has a quilted effect to it which is lovely but after 1 use this is disturbed which is a shame as it is lovely but however. I generally rub the eyeshadow brush over the colour and then apply to me eyelids. The colour transfers from the palette to the brush and from the brush to my skin very easily, when I used the applicator I found the colour was very dark and I was left with speckles of the shadow over my cheeks however when I use a brush it goes on much easier and gives the chance to build up the colour rather than have it very boldly to begin with, as my Gran used to say - "You can always add but you can never take away" and in this case it's a perfect saying. I would definitely recommend using a brush to apply as it's much softer and smoother to apply. I also find it gives a gentle colour which can then be blended perfectly rather than a dark block of colour that is difficult to blend. I also found the eyeshadow very light and my eyelids didn't feel heavy in the slightest which for daily wear is perfect.
The longevity of this product is actually very good, I don't believe the claims that this is crease free as every time I have worn it be hot or cold I end up with that thick line through my eyelid however it's only visible when I close my eyes so it doesn't look too unsightly. The rest of the application stays on very well and easily lasts me a day of doing my daily bits and pieces. I find by the evening it's starting to falter and generally just look messy, at that point of no return where it's just too clogged and terrible looking to do anything but remove it which is a shame but being on all day I can't really fault it. I do believe the claim that it doesn't fade as this is very true, when I have worn this by the time I come to remove it it's still perfectly pigmented and hasn't evaporated and become pointless which for £1 is excellent!
The eyeshadow looks lovely when lightly applied and blended, it leaves my eyes looking much brighter with the colour standing out and a very subtle shimmer that is suitable for both day and evening wear. I have also found it to be gentle on my skin and have never had any irritation. As with other eyeshadows this is very easily removed with water or a make up remover wipe.
Overall for £1 I think this is a great product, I wouldn't want to pay the £5 price tag from Boots but fgor £1 you really can't go wrong. There is a good amount of colours to choose from, it's long lasting, good colour, easy to apply and blend and comes off easily. My only complaint would be that it isn't crease free but then I haven't come across an eyeshadow that is yet. I'd recommend picking it up if you can find it cheaply.
Summary: A good eyeshadow for £1 but it's not worth much more.
