Advantages: Good choice of colours, yummy taste, easy to apply, natural look

Disadvantages: A little pricy, flawed packaging, addictive

I'm not the world's biggest fan of lipgloss. I tend to find that it oozes over the face making your skin look greasy and acts as a magnet to hair and so impractical in windy weather. However this opinion was shattered by my discovery of the jelly gloss.

I received it as part of a promotional offer at Superdrug as it came free with mascara. At first it all seemed rather difficult as there was a great array of colours and it was a bit of a nightmare for some one as fickle as me. However my recommendation would be to choose a tube containing a translucent colour without shimmer as these look more natural and can be worn during the day. The tint you choose should then be based on skin tone. I have pale skin and so avoided the orange and the darkest of the reds, but these could look amazing with deeper skin colours. In the end I settled on the shade 050 jammy and I'm delighted with it; it enhances my natural lip colour without being too obvious.

The texture of the lip gloss, as the name suggests, is jelly like. In want of a better word its gloopier than most other glosses and more viscous. This greatly improves its durability and prevents lips from drying out, which is a hazard of other glosses boasting a higher percentage of water. It also looks much better on the lips leaving them looking plump, healthy and relatively natural.

Probably the most special aspect of this gloss is its taste. There are about a million flavoured lipbalms out there but Rimmel have been the first to pickup on how good these are and create the innovative flavoured gloss which is a truly tasty treat for your lips. It’s very sweet and a little bit fruity and has been likened to the taste of children’s Calpol which in my opinion is really really good. This isn’t the case with the clear gloss which just tastes odd but with mine it was divine. The only real problem with this is that it tastes so good you end up licking it off again, but luckily it is pretty long lasting and for a person with an average level of self-control the tube should last about three months.

The packaging of the product is fairly nondescript; clear tube with silver writing. The tube also does not display a list of ingredients but these can be found on the website. However with a product this good such things seem a bit irrelevant and should be ignored.

I especially like the fact that the gloss comes in tube form as it means application is quicker than with a stick and does not require a mirror so the gloss can be applied anywhere and everywhere. The slanted tip of the tube ensures even coverage and no need to blend with fingers leaving them all sticky. Perhaps my biggest quibble is that the hole in the tip has left some raised plastic which can irritate sensitive lips but this only occurs in a minority of products.

The gloss can be bought from Boots and Superdrug as well as many other chemists. Its price is generally £3.99 for a 10ml tube which is a little pricy but all in all it is definitely worth the splurge.

Summary: The product that does everything from enhancing your lips to slaying your sugar cravings.
