I have been looking for a lengthening mascara at an affordable price for some time. I have naturally very short lashes, which still look short despite curling and using standard mascaras. I would never have picked up this mascara except Rimmel had an offer of buy one get one half price in Boots and as I was already buying a foundation, I thought I would try this out.
First of all, I have to say I really like the packaging. It is sleek and sophisticated and I wouldn't be embarrassed if this fell out of my makeup bag, which I can't say about some of the cheaper drugstore mascaras. Although packaging isn't a deal breaker, it's always a bonus if a product has nice packaging. At £7.99 it is affordable, especially in comparison with the Lancome mascara I used previously. It has a comb applicator as opposed to a traditional comb applicator, which I really like because I find them better for separating the individual lashes. I got this mascara in black but it does also come in brown. The black coloured mascara is the blackest black and really makes my green eyes pop. The comb separates my lashes and I noticed instantly that they made my lashes look longer, even without curling them with an eyelash curler. However, I found that this mascara flaked really badly, even with only one coat, something which I haven't experienced with any other mascaras. I have read that waterproof mascaras are a solution to this but this Rimmel mascara doesn't come in a waterproof version. I found that my lashes also weren't as curled at the end of an 8 hour day and didn't look as long, but this is probably to be expected. As for the claim that repeated use gives you longer lashes - I think this is absolute rubbish. I have used this mascara for a month and although my lashes are longer when I wear it, they are not any longer when I wake up in the morning. However, I never really believe these claims and it certainly isn't a deal breaker when buying a mascara, but it would be nice for once if a product lived up to its claims.
All in all, this is a good drugstore mascara. with a great shaped comb applicator, but as for the actual formula, I would prefer that it didn't flake down my face, as the panda eye look isn't a good one. I probably wouldn't repurchase as there are other mascaras with formulas that I like better, but when I have finished using this I think I will keep the mascara wand to lift and separate my lashes.
I wear mascara every day and have tried many different kinds so have had good AND bad experiences in the past, this review will explain my experiences with Rimmel Accelerator mascara.
Item: Rimmel Accelerator Masara
Colour: 001 Black
Bought in: Superdrug
Packaging and size: This mascara comes in a black and gold (with tinges of green) tube. The tube tapers towards each end which actually looks like the design of a much more expensive brand. In the shop the tube is securely sealed up in a cellophane wrapper so no fear that anyone will have opened or tried your mascara before you buy it. This is good as it means that you are sure to get a fresh mascara but bad because it is REALLY hard to get that wrapper off. Mine was eventually left on and I just used a knife to slice round the section where the lid meets the tube so I can get it open with no trouble, just means that the cellophane wrapper is still on it. I could get the wrapper off if I wanted but it's not bothering me and as it is clear can still see all details of the tube.
Wand: The wand is slightly bendy at the brush when you hold it next to the outside of the tube you can see that the end of the brush actually goes right down to the bottom of the tube so no fear that any mascara will be lost and because the brush is bendy you can slide it round the sides of the tube to get everything out. The bristles are actually really short and distributed on the brush in a diamond pattern, rather than in rows. When applying the mascara it goes on really smooth and very rarely clumps. I assume this is due to the length of the bristles. The shorter bristles also makes it easier to get mascara on to your lower eye lashes without it getting on the skin under your eyes.
Colour/Consistency: I have dark brown hair but chose the 001 Black colour as I like to have very dark eyelashes. It truly is a black colour and in some other brands I have had to go for "darkest black" to get as dark of a colour. When you pull the brush out you can see the mascara on the end of the wand and it is the consistency of hair putty. However it is pliable and smooth's on to your eye lashes really easily and can be distributed with a couple of strokes of the brush.
Length of use/lasting throughout the day: I bought this mascara on the Saturday of the Easter weekend so that was Sat 30th March and have used it every day since them and it is still not looking like it is running out so that has been 76 continuous days of use. During the week I would only apply this once and by putting it on at 7am it wouldn't need to be retouched throughout the day. On the weekends I would be likely to have it on in the day then showered to go out so will apply a fresh coat after that. If I wanted to go for dramatic gong out eye lashes I would wait until it has dried then apply another coat to my top lashes only.
Tear/weather proof: I have worn this mascara when out in the rain and wind and it hasn't run at all. I have also had it on at a wedding where we have cried and the mascara itself didn't run. It did get wet and when I dabbed my eyes with a hankie some did come off on the hankie I was using but it didn't run on my face at all.
Smell: For some reason I gave my mascara a sniff: I always smell make up haha and this one doesn't have a strong smell but somewhat reminded me of "oil of Olay" beauty cream my mum used to use.
I have never seen this mascara in stores, so I can't help there because this Rimmel mascara was given to me as a gift and I have been unsuccessful in finding it in shopping markets. If I hadn't received this Rimmel mascara as a gift, I probably would have never used this mascara considering I have no faith in lash growing products. I think they are all a scam! My opinion has been changed because of this wonderful Rimmel mascara.
I love the mascara wand that is on this product. The bristles are very stout and surprisingly separate and lengthen lashes quite dramatically. It is a rarity that I experience clumped lashes as a result of this product. My one suggestion would be to not apply any more than 2 layers of the product unless clumpy eyelashes is what you want. This mascara wand leaves my eyelashes looking super lengthened and thick, but also natural. The result is so natural looking and I love it!
The product itself is more on the liquid end of the spectrum than a paste which causes the mascara to take a while to dry. It also makes having curly eyelashes a problem because it just drops any curl your eyelashes may have. I always end up with black spots on my eye socket bone because if the product touches any skin before it is totally dry it will wipe onto the skin easily.
Once the product has dried it holds well and doesn't leave eyelashes feeling hard-as-rock, but leaves them flexible and bendable just like a natural eyelash. This product does not flake off during the day, but washes off with ease. I hate having to struggle to remove mascara from my eyes at night so I am very grateful for that.
I have been using this product for just over a week and I have already seen some improvements in my lashes. The first few days I could not notice a difference in length of my lashes, but around the 4th day the improvement started to show! My lashes are super long now so falsies are not necessary anymore! This product truly does grow lashes!
My one disclaimer for this product is that every time it has gotten to much on my skin I have experienced a slight discomfort in that area. It leaves a kind of burning, itchy sensation and unless washed off it will continue to do so. It also leaves a red mark wherever it touches my skin, but that fades away in a matter of minutes.
Overall, this is a great product, but do not be lazy when applying because it really does irritate sensitive around eye skin.
Much to some peoples dismay around me I do tend to do my make up every day for the most part. Some days I may just apply a little make up whilst other days I do my full face but every day I wear make up I have to wear mascara as I just feel naked without it. I am not particularly brand or product loyal when it comes to the mascara I choose and I will often try something if it is new to me or if it just looks good or is on offer! My most recent mascara purchase was of Rimmels lash accelerator and this is my review of it.
I bought the Rimmel lash accelerator mascara as part of a three for the price of two deal in Boots around a month ago. The usual selling price of this mascara is £7.99 but make up can often be found on one deal or another in Boots and so it is always worth looking out for them and stocking up if necessary.
The mascara comes in three colours these being black, extreme black and brown. The product I bought was the extreme black version because I do like my eyes to be quite stand out when I do my make up and I thought that this would give me the best chance of achieving a look I am happy with.
The mascara comes in an all black long and quite thin tube which has golden coloured writing on it which I think makes the product look quite stylish and expensive. We are given the lash accelerator name on the tube as well as the information that this mascara has avec grow lash complex which will give us ultra long, remarkably strong lashes. I would be more than happy to carry this product around in my bag on a night out and would feel as though it is the kind of product I would like to be seen with because the packaging is sleek and almost sexy looking.
To use the mascara you need to unscrew the lid and then apply the mascara using the brush attached to the end of the wand. The brush has a thicker middle section than the two ends but it isn't a massive brush or anything and I find it really easy to apply the mascara using it. I have to say that my eye lashes aren't really short anyway and they look decent enough with just an ordinary mascara but since I have been wearing false lashes for nights out I have been less impressed with my real lashes for times when I don't wear the fake ones! With this mascara I find that with two coats my lashes look really nice and long and as good as when I wear a natural looking false lash in my opinion. I do take my time with the application making sure my lashes are coated nicely but they don't clump together and instead they look long, well spaced and really emphasise my eyes I think. I don't need to curl my lashes or anything before applying this mascara and so it makes it a really simple process to finish off my day to day make up nicely I think.
Removing this mascara is easy enough using a make up wipe or whatever. It doesn't state that it is waterproof but it will only run down my face if I am having a good old cry and this isn't something I like to make a habit of when I have done all of my make up! You have twelve months to use this up according to the packaging but there is no way a mascara would last me twelve months anyway with daily use but this is handy for people who don't wear much make up I think.
I would certainly recommend this mascara and I know that I will purchase it again in the future as I have been really impressed with the way it makes my lashes appear longer and more dramatic which is just what I want from a mascara.
Thank you for reading my review!
I've already got a huge stash of mascaras, but when I saw this one on offer in my local Superdrug a few weeks ago I decided to buy it. I'd been wanting to try it for a while but couldn't justify paying the usual retail price of £9.00 when I already have so many mascaras!! I managed to get mine for £4.99, which I am really pleased with and having tried it and being so pleased with it, I would happily pay full price if I ever decide to re-purchase it. This mascara is widely available from places like Boots and Superdrug. There are two shades available - the usual suspects, black and brown.
I always like it when there's a colour option other than black as that way it is suitable for a wider range of people, eg people with red or blonde hair. I've got very dark brown hair and black lashes, so I always opt for black mascaras and given the choice, 'very black', which most brands of mascaras offer although this one doesn't. This is not an issue for me at all though and I'm very pleased with the colour; the formula is an intense, rich black with a subtle gloss to it. I find the subtle gloss a nice feature as it makes my lashes appear healthier and shinier and in even better conidtion then they are.
Rimmel actually claim that this mascara strengthens, nourishes and renews the lashes so this is more of a lash treatment than a normal mascara, which I didn't realise at the time of purchase. I don't have short, brittle or stubby lashes and they're already nice and long and thick, so had I realised that this is a mascara which encourages the lashes to grow, I'm not sure I'd of bought it. I am glad that I did though as it's a really good mascara and it is nice and light and gentle as well. It does not make my lashes look as full and long as say my maybelline falsies mascara and the finish is not as dramatic, however my lashes always appear noticeably longer and that bit more 'fluttery' in a subtle kind of way.
It also makes my lashes appear more defined, which is of course an advantage. My lashes are dark black, but somehow this manages to make them really stand out that bit more. The applicator brush that comes with the mascara is quite slim and long. It is really soft and it has long, widely spaced apart bristles which really grip all of the lashes and seperate them. The brush isn't too bulky and I am impressed with the quality and design. The tube that the mascara comes with is black with a lime green lid. It has silver writing on the side and it fits perfectly into my make-up bag. This mascara makes a good base as it protects my lashes so I usually do one coat of this and then apply several coats of a more dramatic mascara if I'm going out somewhere special, however 1-2 coats is perfect for a minimalistic day-to-day au naturale kind of look.
The formula is very light and it doesn't weigh my lashes down at all. I've also found that it is very gentle so it is ideal for people who wear contact lenses or, like me, have sensetive eyes. The mascara's lasting power is average and I'd say that on average it stays put for 8ish hours, which I feel is really good longevity. The mascara is not waterproof, although it doesn't run easily at all - I've had ocassions where I've sneezed and my eyes have become really moist and unlike some mascaras, this hasn't budged! No smudging at all. It is also nice and moisturising on the lashes and it doesn't go all dry and flaky.
So, now for Rimmel's claims, and my opinion..
Claim 1 - STRENGTHENS - Helps minimise lash loss.
My eyelashes are already in very good condition and they're nice and strong, although I do still ocassionaly get the odd eyelash fall out while using make-up wipes. Since using this, I can't say that I've noticed much of a difference but then again it is quite hard to tell how strong my lashes actually are. People with brittle eyelashes will probably be able to tell the difference, though.
Claim 2 - NOURISHES - Supports lashes to grow strong & long.
I've always had naturally long, full lashes, so if I'm honest I was not expecting this to make a noticeable difference. I've been using this for just under the 30 day recommended time period and believe it or not (I was pleasantly suprised!), I have noticed quite a substantial difference. The length of my natural lashes does appear slightly, but noticeably longer and my lashes look even healthier. Like a lot of people my lashes don't have any lift to them without mascara but since using this they do appear slightly more full and 'lifted'.
Claim 3 - RENEWS - Helps repair & restore lashes.
I can't say that I've noticed any 'repairing' going on, but like I said before, my lashes are in good condition. I don't doubt for a second that it doesn't do what it claims to though, so this mascara would be ideal for anyone with brittle lashes.
Another claim that Rimmel makes is that the mascara makes the lashes appear 80% longer, instantly. I think 80% is over-doing it by quite a bit and 40% is more accurate, but yes it does add instant length. Overall, I highly recommend this mascara. It adds definition, makes lashes appear longer and encourages lash growth, making a noticeable difference. Five out of five.
I like many others am still searching for that perfect mascara, to lengthen, thicken and grow my eyelashes. Naturally i was attracted to this mascara by the claim of making your eyelashes upto 117% longer after 30 days use. Rimmel have always been quite good in the eyemakeup stakes, most of my eyeliners and mascaras have come from here. It apparently has a grow-lash complex to increase the length, and caster oil to strengthen and nourish.
I picked the colour black-brown as i wasn't sure how it would come out and didn't want the effect to be tooo dramatic. The brush is long and round in crosssection, thicker in the middle and thinner towards the tip. It is easy to apply using a wandwiggle motion, however i often find (and this may be due to my own technique) that towards the inner corner of my eye i tend to get mascara on my eyelids.
Its a formula which never clumps and definately lengthens my eyelashes, especially when i have curled them beforehand. However it does make the lashes look rather spindly and spider like and so i tend to combine it with a thickening mascara, usually clinique dramatic lashes.
As for the growing lash effect, i don't believe it has had any effect on the length. I have found over use that it appears as if my eyelashes seem to be falling out less and less. I feel that this is a good mascara to use during the day, and as good mascaras go, 8.99 is a decent price in my opinion for something i will use nearly everyday. It is definately a re-buy and i probably will buy the all-black mascara as the effect is not terribly dramatic.
The Rimmel Lash Accelerator mascara, claims to make eyelashes 80% longer instantly and also states that over a 30 day period its 'grow-lash complex' will nourish lashes, encouraging them to grow naturally up to 117% longer. The mascara comes in a black tube with vibrant green/yellow lid and it is available in 3 shades: black, brown black and extreme black. The mascara retails at £8.99.
I am a huge mascara fan and have always rated rimmel mascaras for their ability to lengthen and thicken lashes. I also find that they are good value for money and often produce better results than more expensive mascaras, from Maybelline, lancome..et.c. I found in using the black shade of this product that it did produce a noticeably longer lash, I would say that 80% in an instant is an accurate claim.
The brush is slightly rounded and contains lots of bristles which helps you to fill out lashes and catch small or under eye brushes on the brush for a more dramatic look. I would say that this mascara reminds me of the endless lash that rimmel used to sell for longer lashes; but i would say this version produces less clumps.
Where the claims around growth promotion are concerned I am unsure, I have used the product regularly for a month, but I do not really feel my lashes have grown by 117%. I would say that they do feel conditioned and nourished and look long when I apply the product but I feel this is a rather ambitious claim.
Overall I would recommend this mascara, as it does lengthen and condition lashes and produces a really dramatic clump free look. I however did not feel it thicken lashes as much, so what I tend to do it combine this mascara with a coat of the rimmel extra super lash mascara to produce thick and long lashes!
I always like my eyelashes to look at long as possible and I am often purchasing false eyelashes in order to achieve this effect. The problem with false eyelashes is that they take so long to apply, can be expensive and there is always the risk of them falling off and causing embarrassment. I have bought many different mascaras over the years but not many of them come close to giving me that sought after false lash effect.
When I saw the Lash Accelerator by Rimmel advertised in a magazine, I knew I had to have it. The product promises to make your lashes appear 80% instantly. But not only that, Rimmel claim that this formula contains a growth complex which actually makes your lashes grow longer.
Apparently, after thirty days of continuous use, your lashes will be longer, stronger, fuller and healthier and will be 117% longer than their original length. And so I have been waiting 30 days to review the product to let you know if this could possibly be true.
How does it work?
The product contains Castor Oil which is known the increase hair growth and to thicken the lashes. It conditions the lashes and moisturises them so that they won't become brittle and snap.
It also conditions the root meaning that the lashes become stronger and less will fall out, making the lashes appear fuller. The product also contains a special growth complex containing proteins which encourage the growth of lashes and makes them longer and stronger.
The product is available in three shades. You can chose between brown, black and extreme black. I chose black because extreme black wasn't available at the time but black alone gives an intense enough dark colour so I am not disappointed with my choice.
Packaging and Price
The mascara come encased within a black tube which has shimmering holographic writing along the length of it which changes colour as you move it. It has a lime green metallic lid and all in all, the packaging looks really snazzy.
The wand to the mascara is inside the lid and made of rubber so it is fairly flexible and gets slightly thicker in the middle. The wand itself is quite thin and doesn't have too many bristles which I like. The design means that you don't get the clumping that you do with chunky brushes and having fewer bristles means you can have a better control over exactly where you want to apply the mascara.
The mascara is fairly cheap considering that it has a growth complex inside it. It usually costs around £8.99 but it is currently on offer at Boots for £5.99. The product is available in most department stores, large supermarkets and many online websites so if you miss the Boots offer, it is likely to be on offer somewhere else.
As A Mascara...
Reviewing the product simply as a mascara, I am very happy with this product. It does lengthen my lashes considerably, especially when two coats are applied. My eyelashes are really long anyway so if they were to be lengthened by 80%, it would look pretty stupid. I would say mine look around 30% longer with this product and is on par, if not better than, False Lash Effect by Maybelline.
The mascara gives my lashes a lovely dark colour and easily coats each lash. My lashes don't clump together during or after application so my lashes look fuller as each lash remains separate and thickened. The product doesn't flake at all so there are no black particles landing beneath my eye throughout the working day, making me look even more tired than I feel.
As for smudging, obviously the product will smudge a tiny bit if you rub your eyes but then that's never a good idea to do this when you are wearing mascara anyway. If you leave your eyes alone, then the product stays right where it is until you decide to remove it. It can be easily and fully removed with a good cleanser.
As A Growth Treatment.,,
Before starting, I had no expectations that my eyelashes would become 117% longer within 30 days of continuous use. I must admit, I wouldn't even want my lashes to do that as they would more than double in length and be touching my eyebrows making me look more like a camel more than a human. I have to say those claims are ambitious, if not ludicrous.
When the product is removed, and after having used it for 30 continuous days, it's hard to say if my lashes have grown at all. As I said before, my lashes are luckily very long anyway and maybe better results would be seen if I had had shorter lashes to begin with. If they have grown, then it has been marginal because I can't notice much of a difference in length without the product on.
My lashes however seem to be in a much better condition. They are much healthier, possibly thicker although I could imagining that and the colour is a little deeper than before. I also noticed fewer lashes snapping when I have been curling them and fewer lashes falling out when I rub my eyes or when I wash my face too roughly. Therefore, even though I wouldn't say they have necessary grown, I think they are fuller, healthier and look nicer when I'm not wearing mascara than before I bought the product.
This mascara does a really good job at making my lashes appear longer and gives them a nice dark colour. You can see each individual lash as there is no clumping and the mascara has good staying power so there is no flaking or smudging.
I can't say that it has lived up to its claims of lengthening the actual lashes themselves but it does make them stronger and healthier. As this mascara does a good job and costs no more than a normal mascara, then the product is well worth buying anyway, even if it won't make your lashes double in length, it certainly makes them fuller and healthier.
I have tried so many different mascaras over the past 6 years, from MaxFactor and Rimmel to Loreal and Lancome. But this one has to be one of my favorites. The Rimmel range of mascaras are all at the top of my most recommended.
This mascara claims to give you longer lashes and also claims that it helps them to grow...all of which couldn't be further from the truth. Using this mascara instantly made my eyelashes longer and thicker than before. I have long eyelashes anyway, but longer is always good, and this mascara definitely helps this. The brush applicator is thick and has lots of bristles which help separate and cover each individual lash.
I have worn fake eyelashes before and this mascara mimics the look of fake lashes, creating long, thick black eyelashes. I am always getting compliments on my eyelashes, and people always ask whether they are real.
Rimmel Lash Accelerator claims - 'Rimmel's advanced ultra lengthening formula delivers up to 80% longer looking lashes instantly. Used daily over 30 days, our innovative Grow-Lash Complex helps to strengthen, renew and nourish lashes, promoting natural lash growth to create lashes that appear fuller, lusher and up to 117% longer'
Now I have to say when I read this claim I genuinely believed that it wouldn't work and there's no way my lashes will grow longer or look fuller. So I turned to the reviews, which was no help at all. As there were so many mixed reviews I decided I would just have to try it myself.
I have naturally very long lashes and didn't think this mascara would make a difference to the length. But by my surprise it did make a huge difference. I'm not sure how you would judge 80% but I have noticed a big difference to the length. I have found my new favourite mascara. Which I didn't think would be possible after trying 'Loreal Paris Volume Million Lashes' which I thought was amazing!
Rimmels Lash Accelerator made my lashes longer, fuller and beautifully separated and defined. My eyes stand out and I am always getting compliments.
It comes in a black tube, with a lime coloured lid which stood out to me straight away as I am drawn to odd colours! I bought mine from Boots for £8.99, which I thought was a bit over priced for Rimmels products as there always such good value. You can buy this also at Super drug and some supermarkets all around the same price. I have always trusted and took a shine to Rimmels products so I didn't mind paying that little extra and I'm very glad that I did. I'm looking out for offers at the moment so I can grab as many as I can!
After using this for a few months it has now become my ultimate favourite and to top this would have to be incredible. I definitely would recommend this to anyone who is willing to pay that little bit extra and hopefully it would work as well for you as it did for me!
I have short, stubby lashes, mainly because I'm a bit of mascara addict! I could sit for hours applying it until its perfect! This ruined my lashes by the tugging and pulling to get it all off every night, so I had to stop wearing as much, but then I came across this and fell in love with it! The brush that you apply it with is soft and doesn't pull your lashes (as mine are quite sensitive now) I've been using it since it came out and I've never found one that clumps up as yet, another positive, and the actual mascara solution is lovely and light, hence not weighing your lashes down making them feel heavy, which is great! It also makes short lashes look long and full, which some other mascara's can make them look even smaller, this elongates them making them look stunning! As of yet, I've not actually noticed any "growth" which could be down to the use of this product so that's of slight disappointment, but the pros of this sensitive solution are enough to keep me buying this product even though it is quite pricey, its totally worth it! I'd recommend anyone else with sensitive eyes or lashes, or want a light mascara to use this; however it could also be used as a base coat for any other mascara junkies to help protect their delicate lashes! Enjoy!
This mascara is great. I only bought it as it was on offer in Boots but all in all I am pleased that I bought it. It is great for making my eyelashes look longer but not like I have spider lashes. The mascara itself does not clump, the brush is easy to use and you are able to define all of your lashes. I am however, not sure about the claim that it makes eyelashes grow as since I have been using this mascara I have not noticed any difference in my eyelashes. This mascara is great for the day when you are at work or shopping and do not want your eyelashes to look too dramatic. However, when I go out I like my lashes to pop and this mascara does not do that and I have to use another brand of mascara for that dramatic evening look.
OK, I am a self confession mascara junkie. Honestly, I used to be one of those girls that just piled it on and had those scary spidery lashes dangling from my eyes. Now that I've come around, I'm looking for something that still works wonders, but more defined. There was all of this hype going around about the Rimmel Lash Accelerator and how it works miraculously for your lash length and lash growth. Being the makeup addict I am, I jumped straight onto the bandwagon and bought this mascara. First thoughts? Sleek, flashy packaging, it'll look cool whipping it out in the school toilets and applying.
My initial reaction to the actual product was how small the brush was, and it was slightly curved. After one coat, my eyelashes did look defined / separated, but not entirely long. A few more coats later I noticed that this mascara did give some length, but I had expected it to live up to the hype and really give me the length I wanted. One thing I was happy with was that I hadn't clumped at all, and this is often a nightmare we face with completely clumped mascara and it looks like you have 4 eyelashes!
It did also claim to increase the size of your lashes by some amount after 30 days of using it continously. Honestly? I haven't noticed anything. Maybe it's because I use it with other products? Or it just hasn't lived up to the hype.
I could review cosmetics, particularly mascaras all day long. I am almost certain I own every single one produced by every single brand... ever. I am not joking, I am an absolute junkie. Whenever I see an advert for a new product on television there is something in me that has to try it - this has proved to be quite a time and money waster in the past, but lets not go into that. When I saw this product advertised it was no exception, I felt like the advert was aimed at me, very clever advertising, Rimmel!
The product claims to not only lengthen your lashes, hence the name accelerator I suppose, but also to make your lashes grow up to 117% in thirty days. I think the key phrase here is 'up to'! This really drew me in as I hadn't come across a mascara that did this before and after doing some research into the products in contains, I found that they are relevant to the claims it makes, even better right?
In terms of aesthetics this product is great. It has a sleek black design with contrasting lettering that will look great on your dressing table and will be easy to find amongst everything in your handbag! This is something Rimmel really has got covered with most of they're products now - really catchy packaging. I bought it on promotion when it was first released but it can be bought now for around £8.99 and if you go to Boots you will probably find it on some sort of 3 for 2 offer on Rimmel products, giving you advantage card points too! Other stockists include Superdrug as well as online retailers and Rimmel itself.
So, down to the nitty gritty! Yes, when applied it worked really well. The wand allows you to apply it easily avoiding clumps giving an even coverage for natural lashes, if preferred. You can also apply more product for a dramatic, evening look which I prefer. It has to have quite a lot of application for this to happen but it really does lengthen the lashes and make them appear fuller. As for making my natural lashes longer? I can't say I noticed a difference, not that I was measuring or keeping a close eye, but I'm sure if I had experienced growth of anything 'up to' 117% I would know about it. My lashes without mascara just looked normal but the product didn't dry them out or anything, it just didn't make them appear particularly long naturally. This is a bit of a shame as it is what drew me to the product in the first place so the fact it doesn't support its claims makes it a bit of a let down for me.
Overall the product is good for a general day to day mascara for add some drama and length to dull, natural lashes. However if you're looking for a mascara to accentuate your natural lashes then this isn't for you. Obviously this is only my own experience and others may have found it worked on their lashes, but I would say to try something else that is specifically formulated to lengthen lashes instead of being a 2 in 1 as it were. Good mascara but nothing any other one hasn't done.
I'd wanted to try this mascara for ages after seeing the adverts claiming that it not only added instant length but also encouraged lashes to grow longer and stronger, but at £8.99 it was something I just couldn't afford to splash out on. Luckily for me then my mum bought it to try but didn't like the colour so passed it on to me!
I really like the look of this tube, it's really eye-catching in black with a green/yellow lid. It looks expensive and high quality and makes you think that the contents will be the same. The brush is different to any other mascara brush I've used, instead of starting off thick at one end and tapering off towards the other end this is thin at both ends and thicker in the middle. The bristles are all spaced individually in a spiral pattern around the brush.
The mascara is easy to apply and goes on smoothly and evenly. The spacing of the bristles makes it really easy to brush through the lashes, separating them and avoiding clumps. It's quite a thin formula but it sticks well to lashes and dries really quickly so I don't end up with mark above and below my eyes from where I've blinked.
The colour I have is brown black and I think it looks quite nice on me for a natural look, but I think for anyone with dark hair it wouldn't be dark enough. It makes my lashes look really neat and well defined, but I think the claim that it gives up to 80% longer lashes instantly is a complete joke. It adds absolutely no length to my lashes whatsoever even after several coats.
It also claims that it will make your lashes grow longer, stronger and thicker after 30 days use, but I've seen no difference there either so I don't think it lives up to any of it's claims at all. It is a decent mascara and gives a nice look, it just doesn't do what it says it will.
It stays on well without smudging but it's not waterproof and does run if you cry or get caught in the rain, and it comes off easily with cleanser or face wipes.
