      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Great for long lashes - separates and thickens them well

My experience with mascara has always been a bit unusual. I have a lot of very long eyelashes and therefore people always think I'm already wearing mascara and tell me I don't need to. Nevertheless I sometimes want a little bit more thickness and darkness and I do love the look of long fake-esque lashes for a night out.

My lashes get really tangled especially where the bottom and top lashes meet at the corner of my eyes, and (although I'm secretly hated for saying so) they do really annoy me being so long sometimes, as I keep having to detangle them! So, I had never found a mascara which suited already long lashes until I came across this Rimmel Maxxx Mascara. I bought it a couple of years ago at Boots for around £6. This is pretty standard for mascara of these kinds of brands, and I don't wear it every day so mine last for over a year.

This was the first mascara of its kind that I came across. The brush for this mascara is totally different to other brushed which tend to be loads of thin bristles going all the way around the tip of the brush. This one, however, is more like a comb. The comb bit is only on one side and is made with thin plastic bristles which are quite tough so don't bend when you apply it to thick lashes. I just thought it was perfect for combing and detangling my eyelashes.

It is also really good for being precise with where you want mascara and where you don't want any or layering the mascara at the edges to create a flick effect. I had always found it hard to do this with other mascaras and always ended up with far too much on everywhere which made my top lashes touch my eyebrows - really not ideal! It certainly can create the 3x longer/thicker effect that it claims if required. You can reapply and reapply and organise your lashes to get this effect. However I also find it good for a bit more subtle look.

I know this one hasn't received great reviews on here so maybe it doesn't work too well on shorter or thinner lashes but to anyone out there who has my problem with long lashes, then I would suggest to try this mascara and others with the same comb-style brush. I have been hooked ever since and haven't strayed from these new style brushes. I have had to buy other cheaper makes when I've run out and gotten desperate but the Rimmel will always be the best for me!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

A reasonably good mascara for the price.

I've never been big on mascaras, but I do recognise my eyes are my best feature, so when I started wearing more make up last year, I decided it was a good idea to buy a decent mascara. I have sensitive eyes, which are prone to running and weeping, so I have to be careful which brands I buy. Because of this, I wanted to get a well-known brand, so ended up going for Rimmel and purchased a Rimmel Lash Maxxx in black (001) from Amazon UK. Currently you can buy one from Amazon UK for around £4-£5, but I bought mine last year and I think I paid around £8 for mine.

I am not very good at applying mascara, so I wanted one which was as pretty much idiot-proof as possible! This one is waterproof and claims to have a "3 X lash multiplying effect" and a "zero clump applicator". It is a classy looking packaging in black and metallic blue and contains 8ml of mascara. This doesn't sound much, but this has lasted around eight months so far, though I only use it once a week or so. It has a use by date of twelve months. It is available in two colours - the black I own or brown (002). It is slightly disappointing it doesn't come in other colours, as I would love one in the metallic blue colour on the packaging.

To use it, you unscrew the top and the wand comes out with the brush on the end. It is a toothbrush kind of shaped brush (but much smaller!), not the kind that has bristles all the way round, but just on one side. You dip it in the rest of the mascara to add extra coats. I find this easy to use; it doesn't get too messy and is easy to layer it for a more dramatic look. It isn't sticky at all and doesn't clump my lashes together. I am very pleased with the ease of use with this mascara and the overall effect achieved.

The only issue I have with the Rimmel Lash Maxxx (apart from the stupid extra 'x's in the name!) is that after applying the mascara, when you blink, you get flecks of it on your face, just below your eyes. Therefore, I need to have make up wipes ready to remove these marks, before I can go out knowing I look okay! I have just applied the mascara on my eyes and have noticed that these marks appear on my eyelids too. Usually I put eyeshadow on first, so wouldn't notice the marks, as they are normally covered by dark eyeshadow.

Once the mascara has dried, it stays put well and doesn't tend to run or smudge. I get hayfever and when my eyes are running, I don't end up with mascara on my cheeks or anything. After an evening out, the mascara is still evident and looks good, plus it is easy to remove with a make up wipe or just a damp flannel.

Rimmel Lash Maxxx is easily available, not only online, but also in Boots, bigger supermarkets and department stores. I would recommend it as I do find it easy to use and it doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes. The only disadvantage to the product in my opinion is the mess you get on your face straight after applying. If anyone knows any tips to avoid this, let me know, or if you can recommend a better mascara for the same kind of price. I would probably buy this again, but would prefer to try another one that may be even better.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      In my opinion steer clear!

I am always looking for new and different make-up products that actually do what they claim, but also that make applying a lot easier and in some instances quicker.
This is how I came to buy the Rimmel Lash Maxxx mascara. This mascara claims to multiply your lash effect by 3 times, basically meaning that you should have 3 times longer and bigger lashes than using a traditional mascara. So to the test...

I managed to buy this mascara on a special offer at my local independent chemist for only £4 for the 8ml tube. It is widely available in most major chemists and supermarkets priced between £5 through to £7. I purchased the standard black mascara however it is also available in extreme black and also in a waterproof version. Compared to other leading brand mascaras this is fairly reasonable for a mid range mascara.

The mascara comes in an attractive pink and black plastic tube, clearly identifiable on the Rimmel make-up shelves! The mascara is very easy to open and use, you simply twist the cap and the brush is revealed to apply.

Now onto the brush. When I bought this mascara I wrongly assumed that the applicator brush would be fairly similar to those of what I would call normal traditional mascaras, oh how wrong I was. The brush on this mascara is very small and made solely of plastic, meaning it is hard and not soft with the usual bristles. The brush only has hard plastic bristles on one side of the applicator wand, the purpose of this is apparently to be more precise in giving even coverage of your eyelashes. When I first opened the mascara I was pretty disappointed as the brush really doesn't look like it's up to much...which it actually isn't. The brush is simply so small and so hard with its individually separated plastic bristles, it doesn't hold hardly any mascara on it to apply to your eyelashes. I found that I was forever having to dip the brush back in the tube to get more of the mascara. On top of this the brush felt quite harsh against my eyelashes, it didn't seem to have the same smooth glide that standard mascara brushes do.

The colour of the mascara was probably the only good thing I could comment on, in that is was actually black as described.
The mascara claimed to give you lashes that look 3 times bigger, however in my opinion my eyelashes didn't look as good with this mascara as they do with a normal bog standard one. As the brush didn't hold much mascara at a time I felt I didn't have the same amount of mascara on my eyelashes as I would normally have, which made them look smaller if anything!

I have only used this mascara a few times to give it the benefit of the doubt and to be honest I think it will be heading straight for the bin. I really wouldn't waste your money. Luckily I bought it on offer however if I'd paid full price for it I would have been cheesed off and wanting a refund!
The only thing I would recommend is to steer clear of this mascara.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      A rubbish mascara.

One thing that I do like wearing daily is my mascara, with my eye's (I feel anyway!) being my best feature.

After perusing my local bargain make up shop, I came across a pretty promising sounding mascara, stating that this has "3 x lash multiplying effect" and the even the fact that this is waterproof didn't put me off.

The mascara in question is - "Rimmel - lash maxxx mascara".

Well as the name suggests this is supposed to be a lash thickener and lengthening mascara, and as I have quite long and thick lashes in the first place I was quite pleased with this fact!

The mascara looks like many others out there, wit it having the long thin tube containing not on the mascara cream itself, but also the applicating wand on the underside of the screw lid.

There is the briefest of information on the tube, with much of it being in a foreign language, but the information there states the brand name, product name, descriptions, weight (8ml) and a contact address for Rimmel.
There is also a so-called clump free brush in the tube, so decided to give it a go!

When I removed the brush from the tube I found that the wand is not the conventional one I usually have, but this is very much like a miniature brush, with there only being a thin layer of bristles to use for the application.

Before use you simply wipe the excess cream from the wand (there is always a large amount!), then brush through the lashes.

I have to say I don't really like the brush on this. Not only does it take twice as long to get the lashes covered, but it seems to make my eye lashes quite spindly looking, not at all full and lustrous as they look with other mascara's.

Once (finally!) applied to my lashes, I found it didn't even last that long, considering this is supposed to be a waterproof mascara it seemed to gradually melt of my lashes during the day, leaving me black bits all over the tops of my cheeks, I actually looked like a panda when I got home from work!

Price wise this cost me £3.00, but is available for a little more from places like Boots or Superdrug's.

Would I buy this again, well the upside is that this didn't irritate my eye's, which considering it was flaking off throughout the day is a miracle, but everything else was just no good, so no, not recommended!

      Thanks for reading x

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

Great mascara - a safe and reliable choice

I have been using Rimmel Lash Maxxx as well as other mascaras for years as I like to experiment with looks. I purchased this certain mascara when it first came out and I have to say, I have been impressed with the product overall.

Firstly, the packaging. My mascara is different from the one pictured on this site as it has a curvy black lid with a pink top, maybe it is because it is fairly old I don't know. It is the usual 0.27fl oz / 8ml, and although quite basic and not as modern as some of the mascara tubes these days, the colour is eye catching and everybody likes black and hot pink together! The brush is different to the normal brushes as it is a little comb, where the bristles get shorter at the tip of the brush (sorry if that doesn't make sense), I assume to get a wide eyed look and accentuate the outer lashes.

The tube states: '3x lash multiplying effect mascara' and although I do agree the comb does help separate lashes and make them look thick, I don't think it gives the effect people expect when they read that statement. The mascara coats each lash and is a nice consistency, it doesn't clump like some other mascaras do. I would describe the result of this mascara more of a day look rather than an evening one as it isn't very dramatic, but does definitely accentuate the eyes and make lashes look thick and healthy. Sometimes I use this product and then another mascara after if I want a more dramatic look, as lash maxxx does prevent clumps and this method (applying before a different mascara) works well for evening.

I am going to give this product 4 stars out of 5 as I do really like it and would recommend it for daily use.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      cheap..but certainly not cheerful.

I only took this mascara from my sister as she didn't use it, and im realllly glad I didn't part with my cash for it!

its funny how we had a spurt of these brush style wands coming in for mascara's and soon the good old barrel type brush was back, as most people would say 'if it ain't broke..don't fix it' and that is definately the case with these types of brushes.

Firstly the consistency of the mascara itself was runny and shiny. It smudged easily, and when it dried it flaked easily, the product was cheaply made in this sense I feel.

As for the brush..well! firstly saying 3x more lashes? what? did they mean 'You get one massive eyelash instead of loads'? because most of the time this is what I found. The brush gave no root uplift, no volume, No length, it just clumped my lashes into one shiny sticky mess. I have awkward lashes anyway, the straight heavy type which are light brown, and the common 'one set of lashes are alot better than the other side' but this did me no favours whatsoever. It just made things a whole lot worse. The only positive thing I can say about it is...I like the packaging...sadly that is it though.

I cannot recommend this mascara or type of mascara to anyone, I feel the flat brush is totally inferior to the barrel brush and especially awkward for anyone not experienced with make up!

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

      Good mascara but not 3x

I think Rimmel is a brand that can go either way, Lash Maxxx Mascara went up for me..

The mascara is in a gorgeous black and pink style, simple shaped bottle, the brush isn't the usual rounded type, it is just a long flat surface, I think this is one of the reasons it worked so well for me.. You can get this almost anywhere.. The price is around £5.50 - £6.50, I think it is a very reasonable price for the quality of the mascara but I think it is quite expensive if you are expecting the 3x effect..

Applying this mascara is really easy, the brush comes out very easily and is easy to hold, though there isn't any grip on it, it doesn't slip out of your hand.. When putting onto your lashes it seems to glide on really easily, it seperates the lashes so well, leaving no clumps.. I think the type of brush is the reason for that, it goes on so nicely. Then really all you have to do is keeps reapplying to how thick you want it.. With this product I don't really think you get the 3x effect, I think it would be possible to achieve it, if you kept applying and reapplying but this would cause your eyes to look too thick, heavy and clumped and shouldn't really be what you have to do to get it to the 3x effect.. Putting the brush back into the bottle is just as simple.. What I love about this mascara is that your lashes don't fade all day, they continue to look like you have just applied the product..

This product lasted me for about 6 months (4-6 times a week) but coming towards the 4-5 month, the bottle seemed to dry out slightly, making it tougher to put on..

I would reccommend this product as a good mascara but not the 3x effect..

Rimmel Lash Maxxx- one of the best there is.

At one stage I can honestly say I was a little bit addicted to this. I have always preferred Rimmel mascara's and this is one of the better ones. I always change what I use 1) because I like to review them and 2) because I like to see what is on offer at different times!

The tube I have is different to the above DooYoo image, it is black with a black lid. It comes in an 8ml tube with 0.27 fluid oz inside. There is a pink and black theme to this which makes it seem quite sexy as well as very girly! The triple x in the name is not an exaggeration for how your lashes will be...this is what they will be like, it makes them so much longer, thicker and gorgeous with no clumps what so ever. There is not a brush on this one, it is a fine comb which helps to avoid clumps- it works very well!

I brought this a few months ago and I was very impressed. My eyelashes are not short but this made them so much longer I was very shocked. My mum thought I had false eyelashes on at first! This works brilliantly and it stays on for ages. The one thing I was impressed with is that it is easy to get off with facial wipes, usually I am there for ages but with this on I was fine. Just to admit, getting make-up off is a CHORE...

I bought this for around six pounds when it was not on offer which is not too bad. Some mascara's that are not as good as this can set you back around £15.00 so it just shows how you can save money on things like these. You can buy this from health and beauty stores as well as supermarkets which I think is great. It always helps take your mind of the food shopping if you see something you can splurge for yourself!

I would rate this product 5/5 simply because it does as it is supposed to do. Your eyes look absolutely beautiful- try it!!

      great value for money

Rimmel lash Maxxx mascara is great. Only downside i can think of is that it dries up quite quickly but as its so much cheaper than most mascaras that iv tried then i dont think thats too bad.

It has a comb instead of a brush which is so much easier than having to use a separate eyelash comb to get out the clumps. It comes in few shades black, brown, brown/black and is around £5-£6. Its in a long black and hot pink tube and i think its a rebranding item from a few years ago that i also used to use from the Rimmel range, but was in a black and gold tube.
After trying a few of Rimmels mascaras i think this is by far the best one, mainly because of the comb it has on it, its such a great help when in a rush. Great value for money.

OK for everyday wear but nothing dramatic

I recently bought this mascara as I'm a huge fan of rimmel mascaras. I paid £6.00 from Asda for the extreme black version. I've spent no end of money on expensive brands and they've always ended up clumping. I was drawn to this mascara because of the new style comb. It literally is the shape of a comb, no brushes. When I tried this mascara I found that my lashes really didn't get coated. I usually only put on one coat of mascara but I found that I needed two, if not three, for my lashes to look coated. However because there was such a thin coating my lashes didn't get clumpy and had a really natural look. I did get a bit of the mascara on my eyelids and was really pleased that this wiped off pretty easily without leaving a huge black smudge mark! I love the modern black and pink packaging, but am sadly disspointed that this didn't come up to the usual rimmel standards.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Wash the comb, chuck the rest and use after applying your usual mascara to separate lashes

        Maxxx Magic

I liked the look of the comb applicator of this mascara as I have a little metal eyelash comb with which I separate my eyelashes after applying my usual mascara. I thought this was a fabulous idea and I hoped it would prevent any annoying clumping. I like Rimmel as a make-up brand, as it is never very expensive and reasonably good quality of product and packaging. I thought £6.84 was a perfectly acceptable price for mascara and I was keen to try it. I had never seen an applicator other than the usual brush-type wand before.

I used it a few times before deciding that I did rather like the comb applicator and I felt it definitely lived up to its "zero clump" claim. However, I think the prongs of the comb should be longer for a better length of lashes and to get closer to the "3 x lash multiplying effect" claim. "2 x lash multiplying effect" would be more accurate, in my view.

I like the pink and black packaging and the colour was "Extreme Black", which is the only colour I use, but I found that this mascara was no better than my old mascara. It certainly did not exaggerate my lashes by three times and it only comes in one colour, so if you would like a blue, or a brown, you are out of luck with this one.

Mascara for girls who do not want to apply mascara

I bought this product because of the hype and of course the advert! At the price you pay you would hope that you were getting a decent mascara that could be used to give you long lushious lashes. You could not be more mislead with this product. Firstly, 3 times the effect? The effect of being annoyed perhaps yes! The name of the product suggests that your eyelashes will reaches its maximum length and volume. The eyelash brush as part of the product is not very well designed at all. As it is more like a comb rather than a brush it probably takes off more than it puts on! I can see the idea of how the brush came to what it was, maybe to stop your eyelashes clumping, but how can they clump if there is no mascara on your eyelashes to start with. I would assume this product is designed by people who do not want their daughters wearing mascara and thus can use this product to practise on. Maybe I am being harsh but I bet you could get a better mascara from a toy store!

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Good everyday wear Mascara, just don't buy specifically for its claims.

I, like many girlies out there, are always on the hunt for the "perfect" mascara. Something that will show off my eyes to the fullest - nice full lashes - clump free and seperated beautifully, long, curly, and well, just beautiful.
I have never been a fan of resorting to false lashes - don't get me wrong, they often look amazing and I am sometimes jealous of those ladies who can pull them off with the right look - I just don't have that confidence and am not sure I can pull off the "fake" look without looking like a drag queen (not that there is anything wrong with drag queens of course, just .... oh goodness, I'll stop digging that hole now....)
*Deep Breath* and back to the product review...

        ***Packaging***
The mascara comes in a very eyecatching hot pink and jet black tube. It almost reminds me of a thick pen - with it's tapered lid shape, but this shape means the lid feels comfortable to hold when applying the product.

        ***The all important Wand***
It seems that recently mascara manufacturers have gone to great lengths to find an application wand to suit us. Some are thin, some are thick, some are large, some are small, some have all sorts of bobbles and bumps claiming to curl and extend lashes, whilst others resemble those spiky little ball things you put in clothes dryers to help the drying process.
So what type of wand does this particular Rimmel mascara offer? Hmm, a weird one at first glance. I'm not even sure how to describe it. It almost looks like a dolls hair comb - with plastic bristles just on one side of it. Now, I'm no expert mascara wearer, so seeing what I had just paid good money for disappointed me a little. I was a little worried that it would be difficult to get used to and I wouldn't use it - meaning £7 went down the drain.
I was wrong however - the wand is very easy to use, even for me :o)

So what does Rimmel claim this Mascara will do for our lashes?
Well, 3x lash multiplying no less! Well, here I was disappointed, as it didn't really do that - no more than my cheaper long lash Miss Sporty mascara does anyway at £2 per tube. However, to be fair, it goes on nicely - coating my lashes evenly and the comb does seperate them well too. The formula isn't clumpy and full of that gunk that seems to get attracted to the wand - particularly when you have 2 minutes to finish getting ready and you are still in your dressing gown with a mane that can't be tamed into any sort of sophisticated hairstyle.
        I digress.
As a basic easy to use mascara with staying power - this is great. I recommend it to anyone - but don't believe the 3x hype - that doesn't work for everyone :o)

          Advantages

          Disadvantages

Could have been better but okay

I got this mascara for my birthday from a friend a while ago, it was one of the mascaras that I had wanted. I saw it on the adverts many times, and it looked very good and relevant to me. I got the black verison and when I first tried it out it was quite good - I wouldn't quite say that my lashes were 3 x longer but they did have a lot more volume and looked slightly longer and much thicker. This is what I was hoping to achieve, but on the adverts they had said that the mascara would do more than this.

I have used some Rimmel make-up in the past, I do like the brand but I had never tried this mascara before. In fact, I have some black Rimmel eyeliner in my draw at the minute and I think I have some shimmer eyeshadow too. But this mascara was quite good, yes. I never go out without my mascara and bronzer, and so I used it daily but this lasted me for quite a while - over 6 months in actual fact!

The thing I noticed though was that the mascara was quite hard to take off with my make-up wipes and you had to press very hard before it came off. I knew it wasn't the brand of facial wipe I was using because I often switch and had used several in the time I was using the Rimmel Lash Maxxx.

I might consider buying this again, but some other brands work better for my lashes. I like maxi effect and I like my lashes to look a lot longer and thicker than they actually are. This just over halfway did the trick, but I feel that I could need something more. The brush to put it on was a bit small and fiddly, I prefer the usual long mascara brush to be honest. Not too bad, but not amazing either.

            Not the best out there

I bought this a few months ago when on the look out for a new mascara. It had received quite good reviews on makeupalley.com which I normally find quite reliable for makeup advice. So off I went to Boots to see what was on offer because there's always some sort of mascara on offer. This was highlighted as being £2 off so I bought it.

It comes in a traditional mascara tube i.e cylindrical but the colour choice is more unusual. It's mostly black but with flashes of bright pink along the top of the tube and half way down and the words Lash Maxx are in bright pink too. This looks slighly different to the above picture so maybe they have re-designed the packaging since I bought this in autumn or that's an old picture. You get 8ml per tube and there are two shades available 001 black and 002 brown which are marked on the end of the tube.

This is an unusual style of mascara in that it has a comb applicator instead of the normal bristles. I think one of the high-end brands first experimented with this style which was then cloned by Rimmel as well as other drugstore brands. At the end of the wand where the bristles normally are you find a 2cm row of teeth on one side. The idea is that instead of brushing mascara throgh the lashes you comb it through in the way you would your hair. The bristles themselves are just 1.5mm tall, yes I checked on my ruler, and that's where the problem lies for me. When you try and apply it to the lashes they're just too small to be of any use and even when you first pull it out of the tube you can see it's already clogged up with mascara.

Seeing that it's a comb applicator with bristles on one side only and bearing in mind how tiny they are it was no surprise to me that it took twice as long to apply this. The results were acceptable with my lashes being separated out and longer but the results were certainly nothing special as I had hoped for with this new style. It claims to multiply your lashes by three. It doesn't. Two maybe. What's more is that I tended to get little bits of black above and below my lashes because of the tricky application method. Furthermore, the colour I chose, brown, looked hardly any different to the black, though I know this is a general problem with all mascaras.

This costs £6.84 at the moment. I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. I only used it a few times but found it too trying and went back to an alternative. This isn't an awful mascara by any means but you have to have about five minutes to comb the mascara through the lashes and clear up any that has gone where it shouldn't and seeing as most people apply mascara in the morning in a minute when they're in a hurry to go out it isn't really suitable and as such I can't reccommend this.
