Rimmel Lasting Finish 25hr Foundation
Disadvantages: Doesn't quite cover for 25 hours!
~*~ Rimmel ~*~
Rimmel is a pretty well-known make up brand, and through the years it seems to me that it has come down quite nicely in price; in comparison to some other brands anyway. They have many different products available, from foundation and powder to nail varnish and lip-gloss. So if you are looking for a particular item of make-up you are likely to find it made by Rimmel, if you fancy it from them anyway.
~*~ 25 hour foundation ~*~
This is my latest Rimmel foundation the 25 hour version, a foundation that claims to provide coverage for 25 hours without needing to reapply. According to the Rimmel website it comes in just six different shades, from Ivory to Beige - but where I bought it there was only 4 different shade options available.
~*~ Is it any good? ~*~
My skin is a giant pain in the backside when it comes to foundation, majority I have tried over the years have made my skin look really dry, flaky and fairly dull - and also a weird shade of 'natural' even though they have regular skin colour names. So it takes a lot of effort to find a foundation that looks acceptable on my facial skin - it took me a long time to settle on my expensive Maybelline tube, but for £10 a shot I was struggling to buy it - which is why I took the jump to my £5 Rimmel bottle. The colours aren't quite natural enough for me so I really struggled to find one that matched well. I eventually picked soft beige because my face has a bit of a tan at the moment, so it actually blended quite nicely. I would suggest picking your colours very carefully - as you don't want to look like you've rolled in Wotsits!
The thickness of this foundation is about right, it doesn't run off the brush when you are applying it to your face, or get absorbed really quickly into the sponge you might be using to apply it. Thankfully though it's not that thick that you feel like you're smearing it on rather than just blending it into your skin - the colour is quite rich too, so doesn't fade and disappear the moment it's applied to your skin. However it is prone to clogging in places you don't want foundation stuck - such as around your nose, which for me is a bit of a nightmare because I get a lot of dry skin around that area during the day, so looks like the colour clogs up in that area.
As for last 25 hours; well I don't quite believe that, it does last well during the day without being worried about blemishes coming through. Providing you aren't like me and sit during the day resting your face on your hands, because it will come off, answer the phone, you'll find it all over it - and on clothes, especially ones that are tight round your neck, so I must remember to put my Huddersfield Town shirt on before my make up this weekend else I'll have a foundation mark on the white stripes! Thing is it doesn't rub off clothes; it doesn't stain providing you put it in the wash at the end of the day and don't just leave it to fester in the washing basket. Now I tried wearing this on holiday and after a day of feeling like my face was melting I decided not to bother, and just ended up wearing powder, so it's not advisable to wear in 40 degree heat. On a night out, I've found I normally end up wearing quite a thick covering compared to the amount I'd use during the day due to melting foundation, but it does last nicely through a night out, even when it's really hot, but make sure you cover it in powder too it'll make sure it lasts that little bit longer! There is no SPF in it, and well that was evident enough last weekend when I was wearing it out in the bright sunshine and, well now my face is peeling, so remember to put some sun cream on underneath if you're heading out in the sunshine with it on. Getting it off your face is easy, with face wipes, or washing it off with facial scrubs, it will come off happily leaving no obvious stains on your face providing you get it off in the places you know make up sticks to!
I'm still on my first bottle because I don't find I get through too much to cover my face really, it's got a shelf life of 24 months so if you're like me and don't get through it really fast you'll not lose out by it going a bit dodgy after a few months... So potentially £5-£7 for a bottle that might last you a few months is a bit of a bargain really!
~*~ Price and Availability ~*~
I've found this available in many shops, Boot, Superdrug, and Supermarkets as well as online. I got mine for £5 in Asda - and at the moment it's £6.99 in other places, but varying depending on offers. So it's a bit cheaper than average but with a bit of time to apply it will work out to be as good as some more expensive foundations.
Summary: Decent foundation that won't break the bank!
