Advantages: none
Disadvantages: it actually costs money to buy, boring design, slimey, bizarre colour
The Story
In my opinion Rimmel is not one of the most stylish or innovative of brands. Yet I harbour a deep sense of nostalgia for it. For it reminds me of my early teenage years when I was just discovering make up and Rimmel was one of the very first cosmetic brands I tried. I wore lashings of eyeliner, counted my lip glosses as my most treasured possessions and nail stickers were a must have. My biggest mistake however was I thought that Kate Moss was actually cool.
One cannot dissociate Ms Moss from Rimmel. Her cat like eyes gaze out from many a Rimmel advertising promotion. She breathed life into the flagging brand as their spokes-model. Rimmel seizes on the models edgy style and her London credentials and tries to capture this essence in its products.
I had ceased buying my products from Rimmel due to numerous bad experiences with their cosmetics (although their eye brow pencil is a staple). It was when I won a "lasting finish" lipstick from an online competition that Rimmel next crossed my path. I thought that in the name of research I would review it for Dooyoo.
The Packaging
The lipstick's packaging is like any others - it is cylindrical and plain. Yet the designers must have thought that it would be "edgy" and "cool" to instead of having a normal flat top the lid is sliced diagonally and has a crown embellished on it. It doesn't excite or delight me in the slightest although I do like the deep purple colour of the packaging which ties in with the regal crown embellishment.
The Colour
As I won the lipstick in a competition I had no power in choosing the shade as the competition was run by Rimmel it was they who decided that the shade to show this lipstick in its best light was "Pink Shimmer". I do like pink lipstick and a key trend on the catwalks this Summer was bright fuscia lips so I was not that alarmed when I tested the colour on the back of my hand. However, on the lips it's a completely different story. Forget fuscia on my lips the pink seemed more fluorescent and while it might come in handy in warning ships away from the coast it just was not a good look.
The Scent
It smells vile, it is rather hard to describe but the word vile really does sum it up. Yet what is even worse is if it manages to get inside your mouth and you have to taste it (oh and this lipstick will get inside your mouth no matter how careful you are).
The Wear
If you are intending to embark on/continue with an affair then under no circumstances wear this lipstick. "Why?" I hear you ask! This lipstick gets everywhere. It's so greasy and slimey. For instance I don't even have chapped or dry lips yet it managed to seep into lines in my lips which were previously non-existent! This lipstick doesn't even feel like proper lipstick. It's like lipstick which pre teen girls are given in order to stave off their hunger for real proper make up. The thing which outrages me the most is the fact that this lipstick is christened with the title "Lasting Finish". It does not last and even if it did that slimey finish is not something I want.
The Price
Thank goodness I did not actually pay for this product but if you have a beauty death wish then this product will set you back £3.99.
The Verdict
After writing this review I came to wondering why this product still remained in my make up stash. I could not justify it being there and I subsequently threw it out.
