Advantages: Good as a face powder.Portable.Good price.

Disadvantages: Not sufficient coverage to be a foundation.Doesn't blend well.Awkward to apply.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Minerals Loose Powder Foundation : the latest cosmetic company to jump on the minerals bandwagon.

Until this last year or so, mineral make-up was only available online or at very expensive cosmetic company counters. It is supposed to be the make-up that nourishes your skin, and fans even say that sleeping in it doesn't do your skin any harm. Wow! What a claim that is.

I was thinking of buying some of this to try, as Rimmel are offering mineral make-up on a lower budget, for those of us who are not supermodels. The average retail price is around £7.99 ish.

However, luckily it cost me nothing, as I entered the competition on their website and my jar of this foundation arrived through the post yesterday, yay!

I have got the shade 200 Soft Beige, which luckily, will just be about the right colour for me. This comes as a 2 piece set, with a little screw-topped jar containing the powder, and a diddy little brush with silver handle and Rimmel 'Crown' logo on it. Apparently the brush is a 'Kabuki brush with natural bristles' . The pot contains 6.5g of foundation powder.

These are set within a clear plastic 'frame' which, in turn,is within a box that has all the instructions and information printed on it.

The make-up is free from: oil, preservatives, talc and fragrance, making it ideal for sensitive skins. The box tells me that it has 95% minerals and gives 'flawless finish' for up to 12 hours while letting the skin breathe.

There are instructions printed on the back in English, then on the sides in 4 other languages.

Okay, so I have tested this product this morning: Applying it instead of my usual foundation, I have been wearing it all day, including having been out for a longish walk in the elements (very windy, bright sunshine, eyes watering and the tears running down my face because of the weather, lol).

First of all, I am usually a user of liquid foundation , although I do sometimes apply powder over that, but I have to say I found this difficult to apply - First I find it hard to judge how much to pick up with the brush, then I find it quite 'claggy' for a powder, and when the brush touches my face, I am finding that the powder all sticks to one place. Of course I used the brush to blend it outwards, but this just wasn't easy for me and I wasn't very successful with it.

I'm not a makeup artist, but on the other hand I have been wearing make-up for over 20 years, so I should be able to do this, surely? lol

So I ended up using a bit of cotton wool, fluffed up to make it like a powder-puff, to spread the foundation properly .

Also remembering to work it into creases and corners, I tried this with the brush, but again, needed the cotton wool as well.

After returning from my walk, I checked in the mirror - Well, it had stayed in place quite well, but I felt that I could see 'patches' where the foundation was more obvious than others, and they looked a bit dry.

Also, it doesn't contain any Sun Protection Factor, which I do like to have, although I have been told that it has some natural protection within the minerals.

The shade I have, 200 Soft Beige, is the same shade that is available for all the Rimmel foundations and powders, which is good, because it makes it easier when matching it to other cosmetics within their range.

Overall verdict: I think that this is a perfectly good face powder, but not sufficient to be called a 'foundation'. I will use this up now that I've got it, as a powder over my usual foundation, but not on it's own.

Also, I have got no sensation at all that it's 'feeding my skin' as mineral makeup is supposed to do. If anything, it dries it out. Sorry Rimmel!

Summary: Reasonably priced cosmetic that lacks spreadability!
