Advantages: Cheap and returnable, can be washed off
Disadvantages: Brush is rough and doesn't work well, foundation colour is off, SPARKLES!!!
Is it just me or are Mineral Foundations taking over the make-up universe?
It used to be we'd go out and buy a tinted moisturizer, liquid foundation, and loose or pressed powder to put on our faces before we go out to face the world.
Those three items seem to have disappeared from existance and been replaced with what looks like just...powder.
Now, when I first tried mineral foundation I was a complete skeptic. First off it cost me far more than a liquid foundation did ,(It was Bare Minerals). Secondly, the small jar only seemed to last a little less than a few weeks.
This isn't to say I didn't like the stuff. It worked, made your face feel healthier, saved time, and seemed to last all day long. I guess I was just a little upset with the cost effectiveness of it. If the item cost me 25 pounds and I was only able to use it for about 14 days, that averages out to almost 2 pounds a day!
Most liquid foundations (the good ones) can also cost you around 25 pounds, but then they'll at the very least last you a month or two. Alas, so went my dilemma.
Then one day I walked into boots and decided to give the "cheap brands" a chance. I figured, since mineral foundation is so much better than liquid, surely a cheaper mineral kind will still be at least slightly better, (Yes that is a glimpse into how my brain works).
I checked out the various brands and came across the Rimmel Minerals Loose Powder Foundation for only 7 quid and thought " SCORE!".
Oh if only that were the case......
It was NOT a score like I anticipated. As a matter of fact , let me walk you through my day the first morning I put it on before I went to work.
7:28 AM ( After several snooze presses) : Get up get in the shower
7:40 AM: Brush and Blow Dry Torture my hair
8:00 AM: Start putting on new Rimmel Lasting Finish Minerals Loose Powder Foundation I just bought yesterday.
8:01 AM: Really not liking the brush with this foundation
8:02 AM: HATING the brush with this foundation
8:03 AM: Spilling lots of foundation on my chest and bathroom sink because of it not really sticking to the brush or my face.
8:04 AM: Finally getting some of it on my face.
8:05 AM: Looking in the mirror and wondering why my face looks a little orangey when I bought the foundation for "Fair".
8:06 AM: Still looking in the mirror and now seeing sparkles all over my face.
Sparkles.
Are you serious!? What women want their foundation to be "sparkley"? MAYBE if i'm going on a night out I could get a little trashy and I could possibly handle sparkles then, but NOT for every day wear.
By this time though I had to finish putting the rest of my make-up and clothes on to leave for work so I couldn't just take it off.
I went through the entire work day with people giving me little side head looks. You know the kind. Where your talking and the other person starts to move their head to the side and towards their shoulder a little while they stare at portions of your face wondering why the he** you have sparkles all over it.
As soon as I went home I scrubbed everything off and went to go return it to Boots explaining my disatisfaction and used the 7 pounds on Chocolate instead. Which,no I can't wear chocolate, but at least it tastes like heaven and doesn't make me sparkle when I eat it.
The moral of this review is.....
Do not buy it. Unless you like a rough feeling brush, colour problems (ie. fair colouring equaling orange), and a sparkle face.
The reason I gave this two stars though is because it was very easy to return (although that's more of a star for Boots not Rimmel), and I guess teenagers they might like it. Like anything else you get what you pay for sometimes.
I will say that shortly after my return of this product I went into another store and bought another mineral foundation that I am now in love with and will buy over and over again. Look for that review coming soon!
Summary: An incredibly frustrating foundation
