Advantages: easy to apply, nice vibrant colour
Disadvantages: as usual, chips away quickly
I am a big advocate of painting my nails myself, especially as it keeps costs down and keeps me looking glam! As a result I have so many different brands of nail polish, and around 30 + pots of nail varnish! As a woman I think you can never have enough of various colours and shades and I have a few of the Rimmel Long Lasting polishes, but the one I use most often is the colour 030 Double Decker Red.
I find red nails are a classic and whilst I have red in other brands I really like this one from Rimmel's range. The colour is quite bright yet deep and is gorgeous for hands and feet. The pot is transparent and I find the colour reflects well of the colour which will appear on the nails so it is not misleading.
The pots is relatively small at 8ml but it still gets the job done! The brush is a decent thickness to give a nice even coverage on the nail with relatively few strokes despite the small size. It is easy to hold and glides on effortlessly and smoothly as I have had some nail polishes where all you can see are the brush strokes from the nail polish brush which make it look uneven and unprofessional. You don't get this with Rimmel!
In terms of the quality of the polish itself, I do find (as always) that 2 coats are needed for a decent look and for the colour to be bold and not allowing to see the nail underneath. Saying that I think 2 coats are reasonable, not like 3 coats I have needed with some cheap brands! It is not a quick drying polish so I tend to wait 2 minutes are so before applying the next coat, and use a freeze dry spray from Avon (see different review!) to help speed up the process so keep this in mind before painting your nails and darting off then noticing a big smudge on your thumb lol.
The only downside with this nail polish is the usual problem I have which is that within 2-3 days it starts to chip and make my nails look tacky. It doesn't just chip in a standard way but I find I am actually able to peel off the polish which I often do when I am bored! The pot says it is "long lasting" but I really don't find this is the case so definitely have to knock off a star for this misleading information!
Overall, this is a decent little pot of polish that is still one of my favourite red's and a polish that is relatively inexpensive at about £3. Usually these are on offer in Superdrug for 2 for £5 or various deals which is how I came about buying this one, so it's worth checking out for a little pot of nail polish from a decent brand that won't break the bank!
Summary: decent little pot of polish from rimmel
