I first saw the Kate Moss lipsticks advertised on TV quite a while ago & decided to buy a few when I saw that they were only £5.00 in Superdrug and on promotion (buy two get one free), so I got three lipsticks for a tenner - an absolute bargain considering that I usually fork out £14.00 for my MAC lipsticks!
I wouldn't go as far as saying these are as good as MAC, but they're definitely pretty close and for a fiver you really can't go wrong. The lipstick is available from quite a few different shops including Superdrug and Tesco. Amazon and ASOS also sell it and the retail price varies from £5.00 to £5.50ish which is excellent value in my opinion and I'd happily pay double the price considering the quality. The lipstick is available in seven different shades including red, pink, nude, purple and coral. There's a shade to suit everyone and I have two red ones (shade 1) and one pink one (shade 5).
I will definitely be trying out a few of the different colours at some point and the coral looks quite nice from the swatches that I've seen. The lipstick comes in a black tube which is nice and simple. The shade number is written on the bottom which I find handy as I have three so it's easy to tell which is which. The Kate Moss signature in red writing on the lid is a nice touch and makes it easier to spot amongst my many other lipsticks and I also like the little band around the middle of the tube with the Rimmel logo.
The tube is compact and can easily fit in my make-up bag/clutch/handbag but it's still a good size to easily grip rather than being fiddly. Like all lipsticks the plastic tube pulls off and to get the lipstick further out of the tube I just need to twist the top of the casing, which is quick and easy to do. The first thing that I noticed about the lipsticks was the smell. It has a pleasant, subtle fruity kind of smell which fades away within a few minutes of applying it.
The lipstick has got a really creamy texture but it's a little thick which put me off at first and I needed to spend time blotting it to make it look less waxy and heavy if I apply it straight from the tube, which is why I usually apply it with a lip brush. The formula is nice and smooth and it spreads evenly along my lips - even without a base coat of vaseline. Neither of the colours that I have highlight any cracks or dry patches on my lips which I'm pleased with, although I do always exfoliate my lips with my lip scrub before applying it.
As long as I apply the lipstick with a lip brush it doesn't feel waxy or heavy on my lips but the rich, glossy colour it provides even with a couple of layers is excellent - it's very well pigmented and looks absolutely flawless! I love that rather than being fully matte it has a subtle velvet finish which makes my lips look glam, plumped up and the lipstick looks a lot more expensive than it is. The red shade is almost as good as MAC's ruby woo which is saying a lot! Both shades are really bright (without being over the top) and eye catching which may not suit some people but I really like the brightness. The lipstick isn't at all drying and it doesn't smudge easily or bleed, as long as I make sure that I don't apply too much.
It is not non transferrable but it doesn't transfer easily. The lasting power is good and the colour remains bright throughout the day - it begins to fade after around eight hours. I very rarely wear it for this long anyway though and usually wear it for special ocassions/nights out because the shades that I have aren't really suitable (in my opinion) for casual day wear unless I want to really jazz up my look. The lipstick is easy to remove with a few damp cotton pads and my lips are never left feeling dry or sore after using it.
Overall I highly recommend this lipstick as it's great quality and very affordable. Five out of five stars!
