Advantages: The colour is lovely and does the trick in 2 coats
Disadvantages: Brush is far too big which doesn't allow for precision
I think Rimmel have a fantastic range of shades at reasonable prices and having used their nail polishes many times before, I am consistently impressed with the quality.
Being extremely disappointed with the frankly rubbish quality of my Chanel black nail varnish (utterly not worth the money!) I was browsing for a new black nail polish in my local Boots but wanted something with a bit of sparkle in it too rather than a flat black colour.
I found the shade Black Pearl (398) at just over £4 and although I hadn't tried anything from their Lycra Pro range before, I didn't think it would be that different from their other polish ranges.
The first thing I noticed when I went to apply it was the ginormous brush - seriously it's HUGE! I thought I'd bought a faulty one for a minute, but then I checked the bottle and sure enough it does say "Maxi Brush" so my fault for not noticing.
Firstly for the positives:
Colourwise it was great, almost like a really dark gunmetal grey.
Coverage was impressive too - 2 coats does the job beautifully.
I have had this on for 2 days now with a top coat and not a chip in sight (admittedly I don't think it will live up to it's claim of 10 days colour, but then again I wouldn't really expect it to).
Now for the disappointing part - the only thing that lets this down for me is the brush size. It's shaped wide and flat apparently for a "mistake free application". Perhaps it's just me but I managed to get a more than usual amount on my fingers! I do have rather small fingernails, so like I say maybe it's just me as other dooyoo-ers seem to rave about it.
Sadly although the colour was just what I was after, I wont be buying this again because the brush is just too damn big. It's like painting my nails with an emulsion brush and if it's this difficult to apply on first use, then I don't think its going to improve once it starts to get gloopy.
2 stars for the colour but it loses 3 for the stupid brush.
Summary: Nope.
