Advantages: non clumping polish, doesn't dry on the brush, colour matches that on the bottle
Disadvantages: Maxi brush is hard to manouvere and use, streaky finish even after 3 coats
I'm at work. Surprise surprise, I am actually at work so often lately that I am considering bringing in a sleeping bag.. Anyway, thats by the by. I am toying with the idea of indulging in a little pubbage of the drinky variety when i finish at 9pm and as such wanted to look all snazzy and sexy and not bedraggled and looking like i had just completed a 60 hour 5 day stretch. Seriously some of the criminals I have the displeasure of dealing with would get less time for serious offences.
Anyway where was i? a nail varnish review... So at lunchtime I nipped off up to Tesco to seek such articles as to make me snazzy and sexy (think a harley street surgeon may have been more apt!)
Utilising my newly gathered knowledge from other dooyoo reviewers I ignored certain make ups and nail varnishes and then my eyes settled on Rimmel nail varnishes. I ignored one type due to a poor review on here and settled on the "rimmel lycra pro with maxi brush and a proffessional finish in orchid white." Nabbing a set of tesco nail jewels to match and a filing block to file, rough and buff my nails I thought "well what else can help a girl feel sexy than having nice nails to go with nice make up and nice top?"
We have an exceptionally lapse, fun loving team leader on today. The type that you could, quite cheerfully, get away with murdering someone right here in the room in front of him. So i ensconsed myself back in my chair, donned my headset and embarked on the initial stage of filing roughing and buffing for maximum varnish application preparedness.
And then.....
Excitedly I took my varnish out and started to apply, first to my little nail on my left hand. The maxi brush happily covered the entire nail and the varnish went on smoothly and without streaks... So far so good!!! Not to be so sadly. Moving across to my next nail the maxi brush still only covered a half of it and as such i was left with a line up the middle of my nail. Due to the size of the brush I found it clunky to use and very hard to manouvere and get the good finish that I am used to with a medium sized brush. I coninued across my hand and was quite dissatisfied with both the shade of the varnish and also that it had very obvious brush marks within it.
The give it its due the polish was thin enough that it went on smoothly without an clumping or residue, I think in all honesty it was the size of the brush that was the issue. Also the shade of varnish once on my nails was remarkably true to that on the bottle.
I applied a further shade yet after drying i still wasn't satisfied with the final colour and so a 3rd coat was applied which finally gave the colour but sadly still not a flawless coverage. I have to be honest and admit that it will probably be removed when i finish work and I will purchase just a neutral base coat to wear instead. I think that had the varnish been just a little thinner and the brush a little smaller this varnish would've been perfect, but sadly not the professional finish it boasts on the bottle nor that I was expecting.
Summary: I'll give it a second chance but wouldn't buy it again
