Advantages: Erm...the packaging?

Disadvantages: Terrible brush, can result in spidery, clumped lashes

As a girl who loves long eyelashes, I'm forever eager to try out the hot new mascaras on the market. And Rimmel Magnif'Eyes looked pretty good. I wasn't expecting to look like Kate Moss, but then this is a mascara, not a surgeon. The glamorous Tv ads drew me straight to the Rimmel stand, and I purchased the mascara, hoping this would be a new favourite. I'd tried endless mascaras before, all new out at the time, but I'd never been so impressed with them that I felt compulsed to buy it again. I generally find that none of them live up to the hype. The famous Max Factor Masterpiece was disappointing, as were the Bourjois ones. I was confident that the 'breakthrough applicator' would sculpt my lashes to Kate Moss proportions. Though actually, the TV ad is a complete con, like all other mascara ads, as they are filmed with lash inserts, and there is fancy technology extending the lashes. I personally find this deceiving - if the mascara is that good, these shouldn't be necessary. But, at £7 from Superdrug, it seemed reasonable.

Anyway, so another selling point of the mascara is it's packaging. The black and red colours and the sleek design are attractive to the eye, and the brush looks slightly different to conventional ones. After curling my eyelashes (a must girls!) I applied the mascara like the professionals on TV are always telling you to do. I started at the base and slowly zig-zagged outwards to the tip of the lashes. Immediatley, they looked separated, long and were a flaterring jet-black colour. Over several days, I did find the mascara to be a little 'hit and miss'; sometimes it clumped them together and they looked a tad spidery. Not a good look!

However, I felt I could cope with this. After all, it could be my application that was causing the problem, not the mascara. So, I was reasonably pleased with it UNTIL I encountered a major problem. Pulling the wand out of the tube had caused the bristles on the brush to bend, and some had entirely broken away. I was left with a wand with increasingly fewer bristles. Applying the mascara was a nightmare, as there were empty patches on each side of the brush, making it impossible to fully coat the lashes. I was left with terrible thick clumps on my lashes, and when I tried to separate them they pulled my lashes out! As you may know, when you make a mistake with mascara and you need to remove it, it can leave your eyes watery and sore. And of course, it doesn't help when you've already applied the rest of your make-up.

Needless to say, I won't be purchasing this mascara again. It certainly didn't live up to expectations, and it didn't seem to last that long either. With so many mascaras on the market, I'd suggest you choose another!

Summary: A real disappointment-maybe if they made the opening of the tube larger the bristles wouldn't break
