Advantages: Extensive range of colours, Not expensive

Disadvantages: Still chips

As it is the Season of Goodwill I decided to treat myself and throw caution to the wind by throwing away some of my very old and dried up nail polishes and replace them with a selection of nice new polishes.

I don't have a particular favourite make up supplier and generally just buy what I like, so with this thought in mind I headed into Boots to see what I could find.

As you will probably know there is a vast variety of colours and brands available these days which all promise different things, ie chip resistant, quick drying, long lasting, etc, etc and consequently it took me an age to finally decide what to purchase, eventually I made my selection and I hoped that I wasn't going to be disappointed with my purchases.

The first product I decided to try was a nail polish from the Rimmel Lasting Finish in Shade Number 407 which is called Venus, (I bet you can't guess the colour - answer at the end).

The nail polish is packaged in a circular, 12ml sized transparent glass bottle which is sealed with a black screw top lid.

There is a transparent sticker on the front of the bottle which advises the consumer of the product shade, brand name and the fact that the nail polish is from the Lasting Finish range, the text is written in a bright white text so it stands out well with the polish as a backdrop. The reverse of the bottle also contains a sticker, this contains details of the product size, and a brief product résumé which advises that the polish is a long lasting chip resistant formula.

Applying the polish was easy as the polish was of a good consistency, (not too thick or thin). The brush glided across my nails smoothly and I was able to achieve a good even coverage with two coats. The polish doesn't advertise itself as being quick drying but I did find that it dried quickly - by the time I had applied one coat to each nail I was able to start back at the beginning with a second coat.

I ap
plied the polish on Sunday and it has just started to chip today so I wouldn't say that it is completely chip resistant, however it has lasted much better than some others I have tried.

There are several different shades in the Rimmel Lasting Colour Range - the shade I chose "Venus" is a metallic lilac colour. I paid around £3.00 for the nail polish which I think is very reasonable.

I was very pleased with the depth of the colour and the even coverage that this polish gave me but can only give it 4 stars because of the chipping.

Rimmel products are available from most Boots, Independent Chemists and even Supermarkets so I'm sure you won't have any problems finding this range.

Thank you for reading.

Julie

I've not worn nail varnish for ages (horses, mud and nail varnish don't match!), I'll have to put some on over Christmas methinks!

Yeah, the 60 second stuff is great - particularly Zeitgeist; a burgundy shade that looks green in some lights...

That was great - I really like Rimmel nail varnish! You should try the 60 seconds stuff - it doesn't chip as much and you only ever need one coat!
