Advantages: Spreads well, give smooth looking skin while the foundation is on, functional bottle

Disadvantages: thick heavy coverage, no real anti - ageing or firming qualities

** Rimmel **

I was surprised to find out that the Rimmel brand has been going since 1834, nearly two centuries! I assumed they were a relatively new brand, how wrong could I be! The Rimmel beauty empire consists of everything from mascaras to foundations. In 2001 they exclusively signed the London born world famous model Kate Moss to promote the brand. Making the brand better known as 'Rimmel London'. They aim at making it easy for women to change their identity through make-up, as they put it - 'as easy as hopping on the London Tube and switching from Soho to Camden, from Portobello to Notting Hill.' Well they obviously haven't travelled during the Saturday rush hour!

Anyhow, I have to be honest and say my previous experiences with Rimmel and their London Look has not been great but I thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt and give this a go.

** Renew & Lift Firming Foundation **

Rimmel London claim that this foundation -
* - Helps regenerate & lift skin in just 12 days
* - Restores radiance for a flawless, dewy finish all day
* - Contains a time reverse complex.

Now if any cosmetic brand has a 'time reverse complex' then cosmetic surgery would go out of business and people like Elizabeth Taylor would be bathing in the stuff. But they say this is what they have so let's give them the benefit of the doubt.
Priced at around £6.00 (although this varies from shop to shop) if it does have a time reverse complex, blow me down for being so darn cheap! If however it is a standard foundation then this price is pretty average for a cosmetic brand name. It isn't a new foundation and has been out for a few years so I wouldn't expect this to cost any more then £8. You get a decent 30ml solid glass bottle. If you drop it don't worry as it's extremely robust. It comes in 10 shades so there is quite a range to choose from.

This foundation also includes SPF 15. This means it gives your face extra protection from the sun and will help prevent your skin from burning until it has been exposed to 150 times the amount of solar energy that would normally cause it to burn without any protection. Even if the sun isn't at full beam, it is still a wise idea to protect our skin from sun damage as this in itself helps prevent ageing among more serious things such as skin cancer etc.

** What Was It Like To Use? **

Firstly this foundation gets an instant star because of its SPF factor and also the bottle. It dispenses easily from a pump nozzle which means I don't get any under my nails and it squeezes out a perfect small drop. You don't end up wasting any.
The foundation itself is quite thick but spreads well. I found it to be slightly orange (I got classic beige no 201) but it blended well and didn't leave me looking tangoed. It is definitely a high coverage foundation and doesn't give the au natural look so don't try and fool anyone that you look this pretty first thing in the morning! It really smoothes out well on my face and this did give me a flawless and dewy finish so it did live up to that claim. It stayed put on my face throughout the day but dried up slightly on my T zones (forehead & chin) this is because the foundation is quite thick and dried my skin out slightly. But only slightly it still worked well for most of the day.

At the age of 23 my skin doesn't need to be reversed just yet, so I got the opinion of my mum who at 53 wishes she could go back 1o years! This foundation claims to contain peptides and ceraminds. There are scientific claims that these can make a significant difference in terms of how skin cells are produced but there is no evidence that their claims of 'anti-ageing' is actually true. So my mum used this for 12 days as directed and well... there really wasn't a difference. Yes, when the foundation was on the skin did look dewy and thus made the skin look smoother and younger. But once that was taken off it was back to the 53 year old face. (A beautiful one though may I add!). So this 'time reverse complex' is a load of waffle. Our better off giving your face a good skin care regime and hope for the best.

** Conclusion **

As a foundation this worked very well, although quite thick it spread well and I advise you that this is a full heavy coverage foundation. It isn't if you just want to cover small blemishes or look make-up free. As I said it doesn't make you look like you have been tangoed but it does give a heavy coverage. It lasts most of the day and makes the skin look very smooth. In terms of the renew and lift claim and time reverse complex I wouldn't believe it for a second. If anything it would be better on younger skin purely for the SPF 15 which helps prevent your skin looking older in the first place!

Rimmel has restored my confidence in foundation in general, however in terms of this foundation doing what it claims o do... it doesn't live up to expectations at all.

Summary: A great looking foundation but not anti-ageing results.

"as this in itself helps prevent ageing" - I think most products get away with being 'anti-ageing' because they contain SPF!
