As a trained hair and make-up artist, Rimmel Kohl eyeliner is my go to product. Over the years I have tried similar more expensive products, yet I always come back to this old faithful. What you get with this product is value for money. The trick to getting the most out of this eyeliner is the way in which you use it. I tend to use this eyeliner to line the inside of the eyelids as it glides on very easily and doesn't need as much "warming up" as some other kohl eyeliners pencils do. Consequently it doesn't seem to dry out as easily, providing that you replace the cap after each use. It also sharpens very well and doesn't tend to snap off during sharpening as some other brands are prone to doing. Again, I believe this is due to it's resilience to drying out. I also use this eyeliner to create a soft smokey line above the eyelashes but as other reviewers have commented, it is prone to smudging. Therefore, when I do this method, I always finish by setting the eyeliner with a black eyeshadow and a small angled brush. I find this tends to prevent or at least minimize the smudging problem. Even though this method works for me, I would still not suggest that it been worn in hot humid climates or if you are going swimming.
I WOULD RECOMMEND IF...
you are looking for a product to either line your inner eyelids or create a smokey eyed look as it smooth to apply and highly pigmented giving a true black colour.
I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND IF...
you are looking to create a "winged" eyeliner effect or if you are looking to get sharp crisp lines. Due to the pencil style application of this product a fine and precise line is hard to achieve. A liquid or gel eyeliner would be better for you if this is the look you are trying to create.
Please note that my review is based on the original non-waterproof version of this product. I have not used the waterproof version of this eyeliner, therefore I cannot comment on it.
I hope that you all found my review helpful.
Thank you for reading!
I recently bought this Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl liner. I have bought products from Rimmel before and trust the brand so I bought this on brand reputation rather than on anything I knew about the product. This eye liner is a 1.2g or 0.0042 sized pencil. The nib end has a transparent lid protecting the end. The pencil is printed with product information including contact details for the brand, advice on how long the product will remain fresh after first use (30 months) and some information about the benefits of the eye liner. Rimmel state this is a "long wear waterproof eye liner". I have this in the shade 001 Black which is the only black colour in the range of seven colours. Other shades include blues, greys and browns. The pencil is one which must be sharpened continuously to maintain the sharp nib. The inner core of the pencil is really thick. It is approximately 4mm in diameter and this means that you can create a really thick line should you choose this. It also means a thinner line is slightly more difficult to achieve unless the nib is sharpened to a very fine point. The kohl is very soft and squidgy and upon application to the skin it seems to melt and slide a bit. It creates a very dark, intense looking line which is sexy and dramatic. The black shade is very deep, not a smoky black. What I''''ve discovered is that the liner is prone to smudging when wet and especially in hot conditions, whether this be teardrops, rain, water from a pool or sweat. It''''s supposed to be waterproof but it definitely smudges on my eyes and creates that dreaded panda eyes effect. I''''ve found that not overloading on any section of the line can help to reduce the smudging but that''''s difficult to attain given the ultra soft texture of the kohl. What happens is the line remains in place but a watery black liquid bleeds from the line and makes your eyes look bruised. I would therefore have to say it doesn''''t really work as a waterproof eye liner. However, as a non waterproof eye liner it''''s acceptable and is quite similar to a gel liner as it feels so liquid-like when applying onto the skin. The fashion statement of this liner is quite bold and youthful. I would probably buy this again because it is quite cheap at only GBP3.99 but I would warn anyone who is a potential buyer to realise that it is not the best waterproof liner out there. Available widely at shops such as Boots and Superdrug.
I usually wear black eye liner but when a friend of mine recently did my eye make up she used a purple eye liner and it looked so much better. With this improvement in mind I bought myself a purple eye liner!
This promises to Give long lasting high intensity colour for instant impact. It apparently has an Ultra smooth and creamy formula that glides on easily. It is also Waterproof, smudge-proof, sweat-proof, heat-proof, and humidity-proof...semester to be almost foolproof. The eye liner is also Dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested and is safe for sensitive eyes.
THE EYE LINER...
As I said I bought the purple so the actual pencil is a purple colour and looks like a pencil, which is exactly as I would expect it to look given that it's an eye liner.
It has a clear pull off push back on lid and under this is the tip of the eye pencil. It looks similar to a normal pencil but the actual colour part is recessed slightly into the pencil. When I write on my hand to feel the texture I see that it does apply easily and is very soft. In fact it looks and feels so soft that I am a loss as to how this one won't smudge.
The colour of the purple is quite subtle and not overly obvious as being a bright purple.
USING THE PRODUCT...
As with all eye liners this can be applied to the top and bottom lid and for a more dramatic look can be reapplied as often as wanted until the desired look is achieved. It does go one nice and easily and I liked the fact that it is quite a wide tip, giving me a definite line. For some people this could be a bit too thick but I found that it gives the right amount of colour on first application. It does however even when first applied look a bit smudged and again, this could be because of the tip, and if a finer line is required then a liquid eye liner is probably better.
PRICE AND AVAILABILITY...
I bought mine from boots but it is widely available in chemists and supermarkets. It is available in seven colours: bronze silver nude purple black taupe and blue. Surprisingly there are no fancy names, just the name of the actual colour of the pencil. The pencil costs £3.99 and Rommel often have a buy three pay for only two offer so great value.
A decent enough eye liner which is easy to apply and reasonably priced. It doesn't irritate my eyes and although it does look a bit smudge I don't mind this, especially because it doesn't come with a blending sponge, so the alternative would be a thin harsh line. The colour is true but subtle and it is reasonably long lasting, certainly for the night, and is easy to remove.
Not the best eye liner I have ever used but certainly worth the money.

***Why I want the product?***
I have been after a nude eyeliner for ages to go in my lower waterline to create that wide awake look. I have been using Benefit Eye Bright but got sick of it wearing off as soon as it was put on. I wanted something to stay yet still give that awake look.
Everyone in the beauty world just recently have been raving about Rimmel Kohl Waterproof Eyeliner in Nude, so I have set out on a hunt.
***About the product***
This eyeliner from Rimmel is said to be long lasting and shocking in colour if you are after one of these brighter shades. The ultra creamy formula glides on easily to create a smudge proof, sweat proof, heat proof and of cause with it being waterproof it is not going anywhere.
The eyeliners are great for sensitive eyes and have been dermatologist and Ophthalmologist tested.
***What does the product look and perform like?***
Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Waterproof Eyeliner is like any other pencil eye liner but the pencil colour corresponds with the colour of your choice and as mine is colour Nude, the pencil shows this on the outside, you can also get classic black and other bright colours.
I do have sensitive eyes, if I put black eyeliner for example on my waterline they can make my eyes look smaller but I also find some eyeliners can irritate me, especially the eyeliners that are good but you either have to go over the same place over and over to get any colour payoff or they drag along my eyes but with Rimmel Waterproof Eyeliner I find I have to go over the same area at least three times to get an opaque look but I am not rubbing, the pencil just glides along so this is not a problem for me.
When applying it to my waterline, Rimmel are right, the formula of the product is creamy and it does glide on like a dream. No tugging at all required. Colour payoff, even though I have the nude colour is visible but not so in your face or fake as white eyeliner to make you look awake. Even though it was applied to my waterline the eyeliner set matte, which is good otherwise it would not stay in place as long as Rimmel claim it will.
I have found with average use the eyeliner goes down evenly and does not need sharpening as much as I thought it would do with it being to creamy but if you like a pointer eyeliner than you may need to sharpen more.
When it comes to being waterproof all day is something I cannot say it will here as it does not stay on for me all day even though it is waterproof. But giving that it is creamy and a lovely nude colour to the eyes it stays on at least five hours before I notice I may have to apply a little more to give me the fresh look back I have first thing in the morning.
***Price and availability***
You can purchase Rimmel Scandaleyes Kohl Eyeliner from Boots.com, Superdrug.com or other beauty outlets for £3.99.
***What I think about it/do I like it?***
To say I was after a waterproof nude eyeliner to primarily to go on my waterline and for it to stay there I did not do bad with Rimmel. I find it to be a beautiful colour that looks natural and really does make my eyes look more awake and less red. I have experienced no irritation when using this product and to say it is creamy it does not wear as quickly as I thought it might making it super value for money and would recommend to others.
I was recently shopping on ASOS.com and they had 30% off the Rimmel make up range and so I decided to treat myself to some products I had never used by the brand before, and just stock up whilst they were even cheaper!
This Scandal Eyes waterproof kohl eyeliner was only £2.50, and is usually priced at £3.99. There are several different shades to choose from, with some bright colours if you are a bit daring. I just bought the jet black shade though as I only ever wear black eyeliner. I didn't read up too much about the eyeliner before I purchased it because it was cheap anyway, and I have used Rimmel eyeliners in the past that have been good, and so I tend to trust the brand.
I will tell you a little bit about what this eyeliner is designed to do. It is meant to glide on easily because the pencil formula is smooth and creamy, and is meant to be long lasting whilst being waterproof, smudge-proof, sweat-proof, heat-proof and humidity-proof. A lot of claims by Rimmel! It is also safe for sensitive eyes. I cannot wear Rimmel mascaras as they irritate my eyes, but I have never had any problems with their eyeliners, and this one is no different.
When I apply this along my eye lines it does glide on very easily as the formula is very smooth and creamy. It does not drag or pull my skin and it doesn't require lots of coats, just the one, if you can master it neatly in one stroke!
Due to the texture of the pencil though it does go blunt quite quickly and therefore needs sharpening lots. It fits into a normal sized sharpener though and doesn't take long to do, it just means the pencil itself may not last as long as other eyeliners do. It does a great job at staying on my eye and not fading, I don't need to reapply this throughout the day, I would say it lasts for a good 10 hours. However, it won't last this long if you are not careful as it does smudge easily. I have found it is waterproof though. Sadly, this is one of the only claims that this lives up to. I cannot wear this eyeliner when the weather is warm because it is not sweat-proof, heat-proof, or smudge-proof like Rimmel state it is. I do think it is hard to find an eyeliner that does ALL of the above, and so I wasn't expecting this to live up to all of those claims to be honest. However, I have to deduct stars due to the fact that it is not everything that Rimmel states it is.
I do still use this, just not when it is hot outside. Unfortunately I probably won't be purchasing this again though. Although it is cheap, I have used other eyeliners that are around the same price range as this one and they are slightly better.
As I've mentioned before I'm a big fan of Rimmel products. When it comes to make-up I use both high-end and high-street brands and I've always found Rimmel to be very reasonably priced and of a very high quality. I use a lot of kohl pencils so thought I'd give this one a go.
Rimmel is available pretty much everywhere! You can find it in Boots, Superdrug and most supermarkets. It's worth keeping an eye out for the 3 for 2 deals in Boots if your after a few things.
* High intensity colour for an instant colour impact.
* Ultra smooth and creamy formula that glides on easily.
* Waterproof, smudge-proof, sweat-proof, heat-proof, humidity-proof
* Dermatologist and ophthalmologist tested.
I chose this eyeliner in the shade 'Bronze' and to be honest I don't think this was the best shade for me. I normally wear black eyeliner and didn't feel that brown really suited me. However the quality of the pencil was good. The texture of the pencil was smooth and creamy as stated by Rimmel and this made it very nice to apply. It didn't scratch like some pencils do especially on the fluidline. I felt like I had to apply a lot of the product to get the intensity but this could have been due it being a lighter shade than I'm used to.
It's been very hot here lately and I did find the product stayed on well throughout the day. It didn't flake or smudge underneath the eyes either which was very impressive.
There are 7 different shades available in the range which I thought was a good selection...
* Bright Blue
The pencil is the same colour as the shade of the liner which I really like, it makes it so much easier to find which one you want to use. The liner has a clear, plastic top.
VALUE FOR MONEY:
The pencil costs just £3.99 which is excellent value for money. At this price you could try all the colours!
I will definitely purchase another one of these liners but not in the same shade, I'm definitely going to try black next and maybe purple!
I have always had problems with pencil eyeliners that need sharpening I always find they break and crumble or scratch my eyes making them feel very uncomfortable. After reading a review on here and seeing a couple of videos about it on you tube I decided to give it atry. Here is my review:
Not an awful lot to say really this is a dark purple pencil with scandal eyes embossed in silver on both sides. There is a see through plastic cap for the top. This looks nice and does not get broken in my busy handbag.
Colour and Pigmentation
This is a lovely dark purple, but I believe there is a number of other colours including navy, a peachy gold and an aqua in the collection. Although the purple is very dark it still creates a very nice pop of colour under the eyes and is actually better than mybautomatic eyeliner as it can be distinguished from black.
This is much creamier than I imagined and glides on line a dream it can be quite easy to put too much on though and get panda eyes! The pencil also withstands a sharpening and does not crumple. This can flake a little throughout the day but it is soon wiped away.
This pencil is matte not metallic but I believe there are a couple in the range that are.
Also just to note this is not waterproof but can cope with a hot sweaty face in the sun!
As this is a fairly new range these were a little more expensive than rimmels normal liners at £4.99 but for the colour payoff I feel yhis is worth it. I just wish that the few issues it does have were not there. I would look at buying this again or even buying another colour but it is not a holy grail product for me.
I wear eye.iner on a daily basis, whether kohl or gel, with full make up or just a bit of mascara so a good quality eyeliner that can stay in put all day is really important to me. This is something that I am yet to find in a kohl eyeliner form as I find they can often wear off throughout the day or become a little smudged; very much unlike my gel eyeliner but I personally find this a little too fiddle and time consuming to apply - especially when in a rush! The latest eyeliner that I have tried out is this Rimmel Scandal eyes Waterproof Kohl eyeliner, I was first drawn to the fact that it was 'waterproof' and on further look it claimed to 'withstand tears, sweat and humidity' whilst still being creamy and ultra soft to apply. This sounded exactly like what I was looking for so I decided to purchase it in two colours; black and blue.
===~~Price and Availability~~===
Personally I find this eyeliners to be very reasonably priced at £3.99 each; what makes them even better value is that they are often on offer, for example at Boots the Rimmel line is currently on 3 for 2. (10/2/2013).
Like most Rimmel make up products these eyeliners are available in both Boots and Superdrug along with their online stores. They are also available in most larger supermarkets such as Sainsburys and Asda - though I often find that the colours are not quite as well stocked and seems to be limited to black, brown and silver.
This eyeliner is currently available in seven colours; black, brown, blue, purple, silver, nude and a gold/taupe shade. I was actually very impressed with the range and the wide range of colours means that many different looks could be achieved with these eyeliners. Although I did not purchase it, I particularly liked the fact that they had a nude eyeliner on offer (which is great for the water line) as I find most other high street brands do not stock these and tend to stock white instead which can often look a little too harsh.
===~~Applying the eyeliner~~===
Personally I did not find applying this eyeliner to be much different than any other I have applied; in some ways I actually found it a little harder. Unfortunately I found the eyeliner to be nowhere near as soft or creamy as claimed and actually found the consistency to be quite thick and almost 'solid' so when applying it to my eyes I did find it pulled a little. I have since tried warming up the eyeliner on the back of my hand before applying, yet still do not find it to be a soft or creamy formula. Nonetheless I was applied with the intensity of the eyeliner and found that I only needed to go over the eyeliner once or twice to get a true, opaque colour due to it being very well pigmented. Although this was not the case when applying the eyeliner to my waterline, the eyeliner came out very sheer meaning I had to go over the eyeliner numerous times, which was not always that comfortable due to the consistency of the eyeliner.
I did find that the black eyeliner seemed to apply a little better to the waterline than the bright blue colour, yet it still seemed to be lacking colour intensity and I still needed to go over the eyeliner numerous times in order to achieve an opaque look.
When the eyeliners had to been applied around my lash line opposed to my waterline the results faired much better, although I was still not that I impressed by these eyeliners. With the black being applied to my lash line, it definitely made my lash line look thicker and fuller which I had hoped for it to do, yet the black colour was still not quite as intense as I had hoped for. It was a very matte colour (I had personally hoped for it be a little more glossy) yet was a very dull black, verging on a grey black colour and therefore although the colour was pigmented and very opaque it was not the colour I had hoped for thir eyeliner to achieve. I found that when applied to the lash line it did stay in place all day and was very much smudge proof. I have actually tried applying this eyeliner to the lash line and then tried smudging it out for a more smokey look, yet found this almost impossible as once applied it seems to set in place.
Although it is a shame that this could not be said when the eyeliner is applied to the waterline. Firstly, I was very disappointed with the colour intensity of this eyeliner; although it was not a grey black colour as previously mentioned, it was very sheer and nowhere near as opaque as I had hoped. It also seemed to wear off very quickly and was far from waterproof. I was, however, pleased to see that it did not smudge around my waterline it just seemed to disappear, meaning I was having to almost constantly reapply this eyeliner.
Unfortunately the blue eyeliner did not fair any better and in some cases I found the results to be even poorer. Once this colour had been applied to the lash line I found that it did set in a very similar way to that if the black eyeliner, yet I could not get the same opaqueness and it was far from intense. I actually really liked the blue colour itself; a bright electric blue colour and I had only wished this had transferred to my eyes after applying. This eyeliner was just as poor when applying to the waterline, it was a very sheer wishy-washy shade of blue that due to the lack of colour intensity actually looked a little out of place. Again I found that after an hours or so wear of this eyeliner there was very little or in fact no eyeliner left on the waterline which was yet another disappointment.
Overall it is safe to say that I was very disappointed with this product; I am normally a fan of Rimmel products and have found many of their new releases to be of far superior quality to this eyeliner. I am a actually a big fan of their new 'Scandal Eyes Eyeliner Crayon Stick' which I think is why this eyeliner disappointed me so much as being similar products I expected the quality to be similar.
The only claim that I believe this eyeliner lived up to was that of being 'smudeproof' and for me it failed all the other claims miserably; these eyeliners are definitely not ultra soft or creamy to apply and neither of their 'intense' colour last all day. Due to this I would certainly not recommend these eyeliners and am glad I only paid £5 for both of them for offer. Unfortunately I can only award these eyeliners 1 star as now only really use these as primers to help my eyeshadows apply and stay in place as personally I find them almost impossible to use as eyeliners!
Apologies again as still without laptop so this has not been processed, however should get laptop tomorrow so all reviews will be edited and spelling checked/grammar checked then!
I've been looking for a waterproof kohl for a while as I like to line my waterline and can't always be bothered to use a gel eye liner. This one is much more compact and fits nicely in my handbag. This product is retailed at £3.99 and comes in 7 shades. I particularly like the blue, nude and black and use these on a regular basis. The pencil is highly pigmented which makes it alot easier to apply. I've purchased brown eye liners before and the colour has been so weak that I've felt as if I'm pressing my waterline too much. The product sharpens well and doesn't really leave any residue around the eye.
As for the waterproof factor, I haven't used it on my upperlid, only my waterline and I found that it stayed very strong for at least 4 hours. It did slowly fade throughout the day but it didn't leave a panda eye effect and my eye's still looked lined, particularly the upper waterline. Due to it's compact size, you can fit this in your work bag or a clutch and just reapply throughout the day/night if needed.
More often than not I wear full make up on a daily basis and the only thing that I sometimes miss out if I am having a lazy day at home but still have to leave the house is my eye liner! I do like my eyes to be the stand out feature when I am doing all of my make up though and so I do wear a black eye liner a lot. I found a product I loved a couple of years ago which was the Rimmel exaggerate waterproof eye liner and I always buy that one as a rule but when I went to replace my last one there was no sign of my usual product on the shelf in Boots and so I picked up the Rimmel scandal eyes waterproof eye liner instead. This is my review of the product.
The difference with this Rimmel eye liner in comparison to my usual eye liner was the fact that it requires sharpening when it is used a bit and blunts! My exaggerate liner features a twisting middle to just expose enough of the eye liner and this is by far my preferred method as I find sharpening eye liners messy and annoying really! Still, this was pretty much the only option available to me by Rimmel who I do trust as a brand and so I purchased it for around three pounds I think.
The eye liner comes in three colours but I opted for shade one which is black. It has a black and silver design and I do think the silver really stands out on the black pencil and compliments it so that it looks stylish and fashionable in my opinion. The name and Rimmel logo feature on the pencil but obviously as you sharpen it through use you will remove some of this! The eye liner has a clear plastic cap which stays securely on the pencil even when it is carried around in a bag which is always a positive thing as eye liner all over a bag is not nice at all!
When I first used this pencil I was pleased with the size and shape of the eye liner really and I found that it glided almost effortlessly across both my upper eye lid and then underneath my bottom eye lashes too. I felt quite positive with the application and the black eye liner really stood out on my eyes and I felt it looked really good and so I was pleasantly surprised with this emergency purchase really. It was only later on in the day that I noticed the eye liner had not lasted well at all and had smudged in various places giving me a real panda eye look that I realised that it was no where near as good as my usual product. I didn't want to just not use this product again and so I did try again a few times using a primer, a spray of hair spray on my face just to try and set the eye liner more but I had the same results time and time again to the point where I gave in and saw it as a waste of money and picked up my usual exaggerate eye liner the next time I saw it in stock in Boots.
I also found with this eye liner that it needed sharpening pretty much every couple of days to keep the point of the liner nice and defined and so there was quite a lot of product being wasted in my opinion as I sharpened it so much. I also found that when I sharpened it that very often it would break in the sharpener as if it was perhaps a bit soft and so again there was plenty of wastage here.
I found that the eye liner was easy enough to remove with my make up wipes at the end of the day and it was no more easy or difficult than with the exaggerate product I normally use in this case.
It is such a shame that I just didn't get along with this product. The way it glided so effortlessly over my eyes when I was applying it and looked so dramatic and stand out on my eyes were massive positives for me and I really wanted to like this product. Sadly the panda eye look is not one that I favour and even with using extras such as the primer and hairspray that I wouldn't ordinarily use I found that it still bled a little as the day went on and looked messy and would need touching up or reapplying far too many times for my liking. It is with this in mind that I cannot recommend this product and it isn't often at all that I am let down by a Rimmel product. I would say head out and buy the exaggerate waterproof eye liner if you are looking for a great eye liner at a good price because it is heads and tails above this one in terms of quality!
Thank you for reading my review!
