Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation
Advantages: lovely product
I first discovered this foundation when I first started being interested in make-up at the age of about 15 (I never saw the bother before then unlike most girls today!). My mum had been speaking to her friend who also had a daughter my age and they came to the conclusion, this foundation would be the best for me to start with for a number of reasons I'll mention below.
I don't necessarily still use it as my first choice like I used to, but I do still have it from time to time - like right now I am using it although it isn't the same as it used to be!
The tube has changed quite a bit over the years. When I first used it, it came in a more circular bottle which was tied flat at the top, with a brown lid and a circle on the front showing the colour that was inside. Now it is a flatter shape which is clear either side of the label so you can see the amount left inside. It has the name of the colour on the front and the name of the foundation, with all of the information needed on the back.
I have quite olivey skin, but due to using fake tan all the time I have a medium coloured foundation so it suits me whether I've tanned or not. I have number 300 which is called 'Natural Beige'.
The foundation claims: 'Up to 12 hours natural shine control, for a fresh matte finish. With chamomile to help calm, cucumber to help clarify and cotton to help shine. Talc free, oil free, paraben free, fragrance free'.
I think you can definitely smell the cucumber when you put the foundation onto your skin but you can see the effects of the other two very quickly when you use this foundation. I think the chamomile and cucumber goodness must be the reason my mum brought it for me, because being a teenager I had my share of spots like everyone!
The foundation is quite thick and to be honest I don't think there is much in a bottle like there used to be! Due to the lid being at the bottom, I thought it would leak out quickly but this isn't the case. The foundation only comes out when you squeeze the tube and as it doesn't really stand up you don't need to worry. When its applied to your skin, it doesn't appear thick despite the cream, it is light. You can obviously tell you have foundation on, but its not thickly noticeable. I apply this foundation to my skin with a sponge because I find it easier than make-up brushes or hands.
When it comes to 'doing what it claims' this product is very good. I find that my skin clears up even though I'm wearing foundation every day. I like that it isn't thick on my skin and it looks flawless. It also comes off easily with make-up wipes so you don't need to scrub your face to remove it - but it does last quite well through the day. I apply mine about 8am and it lasts until I get home at about 4/5pm.
I apply moisturizer before I use foundation every morning as I find that all foundations dry my skin out quite a bit. Stay Matte does help keep moisture up but obviously skin naturally dries out in winter so you will need moisturizer to keep your skin looking nice.
You can buy this foundation anywhere that has a Rimmel counter. I have seen it in various supermarkets and drug stores. It only costs £4.99 but you will be able to find it at cheaper prices depending on where you look.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a trust worthy foundation which doesn't blow a hole in your pocket!
