Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil
Advantages: Good value for money. Soft and easy to apply. Lasts a a fairly long time. Widely available.
Disadvantages: Need to apply a couple of times to build colour. Can smudge.
I avoid liquid eye-liner after an unfortunate incident in my younger years where I foolishly tried applying it to my waterline and ended up with my white of my eye turning jet black. It was utter agony, and I decided there and then that I was definitely a more pencil eye-liner kind of girl.
This is my go to eye-liner. Occasionally I buy a more expensive brand, but I tend to stick with my old faithful Rimmel. The pencil doesn't look special - just a normal looking black pencil with silver writing. But that's really not important, what matters is the quality of the product.
The lead is soft and creamy, and glides on well. Perhaps it's not as smooth as a more expensive brand but it's certainly not difficult to apply and doesn't drag. Because it is so creamy it does have the tendency to smudge a little bit, particularly on the waterline. A good way to prevent this is to take a small make-up brush (I use a lip liner brush) and apply some dark eye shadow over the eye-liner. This was a handy tip I picked up online and it works a treat! Alternatively it is easily smudged for creating a smokey, sexy look, if that's what you want.
The colour needs two or three coats to be really black, but because it's so easy I don't mind applying it a couple of times. The pencil is easily sharpened back to a sharp point when blunt. It is also a fairly long lasting product. I use it most days and it usually lasts me about 10 weeks.
Rimmel do this eyeliner in several colours including brown and green. These are great neutral shades and not too outrageous. They also sell a white pencil - great for highlighting your waterline or the corner of your eye to make your eyes look bigger and brighter.
Overall this is a great mid-price eye-liner. Don't expect miracles, but it's definitely worth the £2 or £3 you pay for it. It is widely available in most cosmetic shops.
Summary: An essential for any make-up bag, at a bargain price.
