Advantages: Shine when first applied
Disadvantages: Staying power... or lack of
*Introduction*
Rimmel Vinyl Lip Gloss is one of the first products that I bought when I was first interested in make up. I was in the last few years of secondary school and my friends began to start wearing a little bit of mascara, eye liner and lip gloss. I was envious and asked my mum if I could have a lip gloss. She didn't want to buy me a new one (which is understandable) so she gave me one of her older ones that she didn't use anymore. This lip gloss was Rimmel Vinyl Lip Gloss.
*The Claim*
A brilliant, high shine gloss.
*About the Product*
It is a mirror shine lip gloss. The lightweight non-sticky, perfectly pampering formula glides onto your lips for a perfect mirror finish pout. The ultimate glossy glamour.
*Application*
To apply Rimmel Vinyl Lip Gloss, you simply need to remove the lid of the product which is also the applicator. Then, glide the wand smoothly onto your top and bottom lips. It slides easily on due to the great shape of the wand and gives you even coverage. Rimmel suggest that you dab a little Vinyl Lip Gloss in the centre of your bottom lip for a polished pout. They believe that by doing this, it will bring out the colour even more.
Over applying this lip gloss will result in a wet look and I wouldn't recommend it. Less is more with regards to using this product so if there is an excessive amount of the lip gloss on the applicator when you go to apply it onto your lips, simply wipe the applicator onto the inside rim of the tube.
*Price and Availability*
Rimmel Vinyl Lip Gloss is available to buy for £4.20. This is actually very cheap compared to similar products available to buy but it is a product that has poor staying power therefore you will be reapplying a lot throughout the day.
This lip gloss can be purchased from stores like Boots and Superdrug as well as in the make up section that can be found in Tesco. Rimmel concessions are also in a number of your local chemists, so you may find it for sale there. Alternatively you can buy it from www.rimmellondon.com.
*My Opinion*
The packaging: Rimmel Vinyl Lip Gloss is packaged in a hard, transparent plastic tube with a back screw on lid which is also the applicator. The clear plastic allows you to clearly see how much of the product you have at all times and see clearly the colour of the lip gloss. The wand of the lip gloss has a soft, sponge applicator which is fantastic in its ability to apply the lip gloss easily and smoothly onto your lips. The tube itself is about 4-5 inches in length and not bulky at all therefore perfect size to sit in your handbag.
The style of the packaging is simple and fairly boring but it serves the purpose I suppose. I wouldn't think that it gets many people buying for the look of the product but the cost is fairly low so we should expect this type of packaging.
Texture, smell and colour: The texture of this lip gloss is soft and smooth and not in the slightest bit sticky or tacky. You won't have hair sticking to your face on a windy day. The smoothness of the lip gloss means that it is easy to apply which is always a good thing.
I have found this lip gloss to be entirely odourless and tasteless therefore those of you who dislike a fruity or sweet flavour in your lip gloss will be entirely satisfied. As for the colour of the lip gloss, it is great when first applied and shines brilliantly.
Range of colours: Rimmel Vinyl Lip Gloss is available in 7 different shades. I have two colours; the colour that my mum gave me which is called Read My Lips and I must have purchased Crystal Clear at a later date. The range of colours is fairly poor but I don't suppose that matters as the colour isn't on your lips for long!
Staying power: The staying power of this product is extremely poor. In fact, I don't even think you can call it staying power. Pretty much three or four minutes after application, the lip gloss seems to disappear. This is complete disappointment as the look immediately after application is fantastic but it is so short lived. This means that if you want you like to look great all day long, don't plan to do anything as your time will be spent constantly reapplying the lip gloss.
Longevity of the product: If you persist in using this lip gloss, despite its poor staying power, it should last you roughly two or three months. I am disappointed by the fact that it doesn't last long and I hope that resolving this issue is something that Rimmel look into because the lip gloss itself when initially put on is fantastic. It is one of the best that I have used in fact so to sort out this problem would be brilliant and it would also improve the longevity of the product as you wouldn't be constantly reapplying.
Is this lip gloss lightweight and non-sticky? Yes and yes. The lip gloss is very light weight and non-sticky which is probably the reason for its lack of staying power. Therefore perhaps I should stop moaning about this as at no point does the brand claim that it stay on your lips for a long time.
Is it a perfectly pampering formula that glides onto your lips for a perfect mirror finish pout? I dispute the claim that it is a pampering formula but it does glide easily on your lips, leaving you with a perfect mirror finish pout, even if it isn't for long.
And lastly, is it a brilliant, high shine gloss? The shine that you get from this lip gloss is possibly better than any other that I have used therefore the answer to this question is a resounding yes.
*Would I Recommend This Product?*
I wouldn't really recommend this lip gloss to anyone but teenagers who don't have too much money to spend on cosmetics. It works for short periods of time, but during the time that it is on your lips it looks amazing. You lips look fabulous and you'll have the girls jealous of them and the guys wanting to kiss them.
So if you are looking for shiny, glossy lips then this product is great IF you don't mind reapplying frequently. And frequently is the key point that I am making here, highlighting the products very poor staying power. If only it was the slightest bit sticky, you might find it would work for longer.
*Overall*
Rimmel Vinyl Lip Gloss is a great product for the period of time that it stays on your lips. It looks glossy, the colour is great and your lips look gorgeous. Unfortunately this is not a long time at all so I actually find the lip gloss very disappointing indeed.
Summary: A lip gloss that looks great for 5 minutes

- 06/11/09 sounds fab when you first apply though. Wonder if some old fashioned "Lipcote" applied straight after would help its staying power? good review! |
