Advantages: As with all mascaras, it makes your lashes look longer/thicker.
Disadvantages: Expensive for what it is, clumpy, rubbish brush, faffy.
There are a few different types of this Rimmel Volume Flash Mascara, there is the normal one, a one with a curved brush, a waterproof one and a one which is called Volume Flash Max or something. I don't have a favourite type of mascara, I tend to just buy what is on offer and as this mascara was on offer in my local chemist, I decided to go for the one with the curved brush.
The packaging is pretty much the same as the picture above except the bottle is red on the curved brush version. The Mascara is exactly the same, it is only the brush which differs. I'd never used this mascara before so I was looking forward to trying it out but I have to say, I am not impressed.
Everytime I use it, I get huge clumps all over my eye lashes. I don't know if the mixture is too thick or something, or perhaps it is slightly drying up and crumbling into the actual mascara, but every single time, I have to spend ages brushing out the clumps. It happens less if you wipe the brush on the edge of the opening over and over again, but then the seal gets all gunked up and it's a huge waste of product. I expected more from this mascara as it normally costs £6-£7 which isn't cheap.
Another thing I disliked about this product was the brush. As I mentioned earlier, I chose the version with the curved brush. Normally when mascara comes with a curved brush, the brush is molded perfectly to the shape of your eyelashes (or near enough). This one however, is very short and VERY curved. It is almost too curved so that it doesn't fit the shape of your eyelases very well which makes it kind of awkward to apply. It also means that I always end up with mascara on my eyelid when I am applying it to the top lashes - not a good look.
As far as volumising the lashes goes, which is of course the whole point of this product, I suppose it works quite well. However, it is no better than any other mascara and certainly doesn't give the volume you would expect from something called "volume flash". I think you could buy a cheap £3 mascara and it would do exactly the same thing - probably with less clumps and a more natural effect too!
I wouldn't buy this again and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. It's not worth the faff of declumping the wand, brushing the clumps out of your lashes and trying to carefully maneuvre the wand so that you don't end up with mascara all over your face!
Summary: I wouldn't buy this again, I'd go for a cheaper mascara which does a better job!
