Rimmel Wake Me Up Make Up Foundation
Advantages: Gives you good coverage and a long lasting radiant complexion
Disadvantages: There's not many shades available
Finding the perfect foundation for your skin can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. I am relatively happy with my L'oreal foundation but it's not perfect so I am on the look out for something better. The latest foundation to catch my eye was the Wake Me Up Foundation by Rimmel because my skin is often looking tired and dull.
What does the product do?
Rimmel describe this foundation as your new partner for your fast paced life. The medium to full coverage foundation promises to awaken the skin and to give it a healthy glow. Two extra selling points were that it promised to give me a poreless complexion (great news for an enlarged pore sufferer like myself) and that it contains SPF 15 so it should stop any sun damage from occurring.
Using a vitamin complex it claims to moisturise the skin, improving its elasticity and leaving you looking fresh faced and awake. It also claims to eliminate visible signs of tiredness and to minimise signs of premature aging. The foundation is supposed to last for up to ten hours and leaves you looking like you've had a good night's sleep. Now I could hardly leave this little beauty on the shelf, could I?
The product comes in only a few shades so I was sceptical about whether I'd manage to get one to match my skin tone. I only had six shades to choose from which is silly when you think of all the different skin tones that people have. Most of the shades are variations of Ivory and Beige and I edged my bets with True Ivory as my skin is quite pale.
How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied in the same way as a normal foundation. It is to be applied to skin that has been cleansed, toned and moisturised. I use a primer first, despite the products poreless claims, because my pores are so enlarged I need all of the help that I can get! I apply mine using a make up sponge because if you use your fingers you are making your skin oilier. I apply a layer of foundation to my face taking good care to blend in the product at the jawline and avoiding getting any product in my hairline and eyebrows. I finish off with a mattifying powder.
Packaging and Price
The product has an eye catching design sporting a bright orange rectangle shaped lid with a slant on top. The foundation comes contained within a glass bottle which is transparent and you can see the foundation inside. Inside the bottle, the foundation looks a little bit shimmery but this isn't noticeable on the skin so don't panic. Wake Me Up is written on the bottle in orange letters and the bottle has a slight curve to it. When you remove the lid, you see the bright orange pump dispenser. The product is on par which similar brands and will cost you around £8. It can be bought from department stores such as Boots, large supermarkets and also from a variety of online websites.
I'd say that one full pump of this product is enough to cover my whole face. I usually mix my foundation with a moisturiser so that it doesn't show up my flaky skin but this one has such a gorgeously silky consistency that I don't need to do that. It's very creamy so it glides across the skin and you have plenty of time to blend the product before it dries. It feels lovely when you applying it and it doesn't drag your skin as you rub it in. It feels moisturising as you apply it and you can feel that this foundation is hydrating the skin.
The product gives a really good coverage and it does a good job at hiding my imperfections. I still use Porefessional with this foundation but it doesn't show up what's left of my pores so that always a good thing in my book. It makes an instant difference to my complexion by brightening my skin and banishing any dullness. It illuminates my face and gives it a dewy glow. It works well at covering the darkness beneath my eyes which makes me look instantly awake.
The foundation is really long lasting and I would say that it lasting as long as was promised. I never feel the need to reapply the product and the coverage remains good. The only complaint I would have with this product is that it does make you shinier and as I have oily skin already, I need to apply a mattifying powder. Unfortunately this takes away some of the lovely ethereal glow that the foundation gives so it kind of spoils the effect. If you have skin like mine, you'll know a powder is unavoidable. That being said, it hasn't caused any blemishes or irritations on my spot prone skin. The product is easily removed with my usual face wash.
All in all, this is a really lovely foundation that gives my skin a coverage that is good enough to hide my imperfections and dark circles. It is creamy and blends in well, giving my skin a gorgeous and fresh faced appearance. The long lasting results leave you looking radiant even when you're not feeling it. It's only a shame that I need to cover up the foundation with a mattifying powder because it enhance my shininess and this spoils the results. Nevertheless, this is a beautiful foundation that I wouldn't hesitate to buy again.
Summary: A lovely foundation which covers imperfections and makes you look fresh faced and awake
