Rimmel Waterproof Gel Eyeliner
Advantages: Water proof and smudge proof
Disadvantages: Takes too long to dry, too fiddly to apply, poor staying power
I love using the eyeliner and have been using it for few years now. I don't use it absolutely every day, but at least couple of times a week depending on my mood in the morning. One of my favourite eyeliners that I have been using for some time is Glam Eyes Rimmel eyeliner and so when my friend kingly brought me this Waterproof Gel Eyeliner I thought it will be good as it was made by Rimmel which is the brand I trust and not had problems with at all.
***The look of the product***
Eyeliner looks very smart I must say and has a unique shape for the eyeliner, it is presented the black tube that has 3 parts: the brush (which is attached to the lid), plastic screw off lid and little glass pot which contains 2g of waterproof gel eyeliner. The name of the product is printed in small white writing on the glass pot and the lid also has advised which way you need to turn it to open it. To use the brush, you need to pull on very top part of the lid. Brush clicks securely back to the lid when you not use it which means that you will not lose it.
***Using the product***
I must say I was not sure how I am going to get on using this eyeliner as the brush I a lot thicker than what I am used to using. I like using very thin brush but my friend assured me that I will find it easy to use. How wrong was she? Using this brush and eyeliner both is a total nightmare! I thought it will get better when I get used to it, but even after few attempts, it took absolutely ages to achieve nice line without having to go over and over again. I find that using liquid eyeliner with thin brush is much easier and definitely quicker.
To achieve quite dark black line you would need to go over the line again two or three times which can be also very time consuming. Another disadvantage is that gel takes long time to dry. First time I applied the gel I ended up with marks on my upper eyelids and thanks to the fact that gel is waterproof I could not easily wipe it off with cotton bud and ended up with panda eyes which resulting with having to take it all off and start again with my make up. The second time I applied this eyeliner, I remembered to wait until the eyeliner dried before I apply my mascara which taken good few minutes. Not convenient when you want to get ready for work and have 19 months old toddler to get ready for childminder.
Eyeliner staying power is not very good either. I find that by lunch time, my line would fade quite a bit and so needed to reapply and by the time I get home from work, line has faded again. Eyeliner is indeed waterproof and smudge proof (once dried) as it is quite hard to remove, it normally takes good rubbing of your eyes using some sort of make up remover lotion and I assume you would struggle to get it off just by using the water although I never tried it.
***Price and availability***
This eyeliner can be purchased in Boots for £6.49 but I have seen it on various on-line shops, price vary depending which website you are looking at but generally price is around £6 mark. I think this is good value in money (if you like the product) as it will probably last quite a while.
I do not see myself buying this product again, I do not like the fact that it take much longer to dry then my liquid eyeliner and it is a lot more difficult to achieve nice smooth line. Also taking into consideration the poor staying power, I am only awarding this eyeliner 1 star.
Summary: Not for me
