Advantages: Lovely cherry smell, really moisturising,

Disadvantages: Colour not very strong

Full credit to Katy Perry - annoying she may be, but since the release of her irritating "I kissed a girl" song there's been a noticeable rise in the number of cherry flavoured lip balms on the shelves, something I'm very grateful for as I love cherry scents! Now that summer is finally upon us, I tend to prefer a lighter colour on the lips, going for a sheer wash of gloss or balm rather than the full on colour of lipstick. Knowing how much I liked Rose & Co's Petal Salve, I was drawn to their Cherry Kiss lip balm when browsing in Boots recently.

Rose & Co.'s Cherry Kiss comes in a lovely vintage inspired metal tub with an oh-so-cute pale blue colour scheme dotted with red cherries. Ingredients wise, essentially this is a scented and tinted petrolium jelly, so when it comes down to it, it's posh vaseline, retailing at £4.85 for a 20g tub from Boots (or you can buy it from other online beauty stores though they tend to charge a little more)

The lid comes off nice and easily (far more easily than the vaseline tubs) and as soon as you open the lid you can smell the fabulous sweet cherry smell. Make sure you buy one in the shop that has the tamper-proof plastic seal around the rim - mine was missing this and when I opened it up at home it had a delightful finger splodge in the middle where some little oik had tested it. But onto the smell! While I love the floral smell of their Rose Petal Salve, I appreciate that lots of people prefer a fruity smell on their lips, and this is so lovely it's unlikely to offend anyone. The smell really lasts too and I'm still able to smell it hours after applying and have had lots of nice compliments about the smell from other people.

I mainly use this on my lips and I have to say it works fabulously to keep them smooth and in good condition. Saying earlier this is just posh vaseline is slightly misleading, as it feels not at all greasy and so much smoother and silkier than vaseline on the lips and its moisturising properties are far more intensive. I also often find that vaseline seems to sit on top of the lips, just acting as a barrier, while this actually feels that it is really moisturising, as well as protecting from the elements. Looking at the ingredients list there are a couple of nice things in there that account for its great moisturising qualities: sweet almond oil and beeswax are included, both known for their nourishing and moisturising properties. It also has a great consistency - so often with lip balms they are either too hard in cold weather and difficult to get out of the pot, or they melt in hot weather. This stays lovely and soft in the cold, and doesn't melt hideously in hot weather either.

My only slight disappointment with this product is that the tint to it is not particularly noticeable on the lips - it gives a slight pink wash, but there isn't a lot of colour to it in the way that say, Benetint, has. But it's not really a major gripe - the fantastic moisturising effect this gives means I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again and at just under £5, it's one of the best lip balms I've tried. It's a cute product, which does a great job at keeping lips in good condition, has a great smell and is convenient to carry around in your pocket.

Summary: It tasted of cherry chapstick...
