“ Brand: Ruby and Millie / Type: Foundation / Subcategory: Powder / Pen „
Ruby & Millie, the cosmetic giants are no stranger to great products. Ruby & Millie are 2 beauty industry professionals with over 300 products on sale. Their vision was to sell make-up which make-up artists would love to use and the general public would love to buy. They aim to make products which help women look beautiful and glamorous whilst remaining natural (not made-up). This product does just that....
The powder pen is a neat little item with a sophisticated design which fits pefectly into even the smallest make-up bag. When you open the lid the nib is already loaded with the correct amount of powder (excellent... no spills! while still giving you the freedom of a loose powder eye shadow.)
Each pen is loaded with 2 colours/shades which compliment perfectly:
The mixture of the two shades is excellent as they can be used as your base and main shadow together or as individuals. It's easy to create the natural look that Ruby & Millie had in mind, but it is also easy to build up the colour with a few applications for a far more dramatic look. What's also great is that you can see how much of the product is actually left in the clear tube! (I have to say I have had mine a while and you really don't use a lot of powder each time, it's really long lasting!)
The pen style gives the user great control and makes it really easy to apply. I would recommend also blending with your fingers or a makeup brush in addition to prevent a build up of loose powder along the crease of your eye by the end of the day!!! The colour has great staying power.
Ruby & Millie products are available in department stores and in Boots. Average price is around £11.50. Keep you eyes peeled for a bargin as Boots quite often do £5 off vouchers which can be used towards Ruby & Millie products. 3 for 2 is also often available at Boots.
I just had to tell you about this neat little invention that I found in the Ruby & Millie range at Boots. These pens have been around for 5 years and I've never seen anything else like it since.
Who are Ruby & Millie?
Ruby & Millie is a cosmetic brand that was developed by Ruby Hammer, International make-up artist and Millie Kendall, former PR consultant. The brand contains make-up as well as cosmetic accessories like applicators, nail files, buffers, removers etc.
What's so special about this pen?
Well, it's eye shadow but not as you know it. It is loose eye shadow in the form of a pen! The product comes with an eye shadow dispenser on each end in two different but complimentary colours. So you can use one end as a base and the other as your main colour or each colour separately. The cap is a screw-cap that contains the powdery eye shadow right at the bottom and the pen is a circular nib which comes up to a point. The nib is spring-loaded so you can load eye shadow to use by closing the cap over the nib and voila you have the right amount of eye shadow on the nib. This way it does not waste any of your product and there are no spills to worry about.
The body of the pen is silver with Ruby & Millie written in white letters. Each end of the pen shows the actual eye shadow within the cap.
The Colours & Availability
So far the I-powder pen comes in the following colour combinations:
* Light/Dark Green
* Black & Silver
* Light/Dark Brown
* Light/Dark Blue
* Light/Dark Purple
I also have a Light/Dark pink combo which doesn't seem to be available anymore (though it is in the picture). It's a shame as this was a real nice candy colour and my favourite of the range. With these colour combinations, one pen can give you either a dramatic look or a natural look, you have the choice. I have all but the Turquoise, Black and Brown pens. The pens retail between £10.50 and £11.00 each and can only be found in Boots stores or Boots online. If you do see it on online websites, it will most likely take you to the Boots online store. Think of the advantage points ;o)
Using the Pen
Given its nifty little pen like shape, it gives great control over where you want to place the eye shadow. They are great for using over the whole eyelid or using just like an eyeliner. I mostly use one of the colours as top eyeliner. The cool colours really give your eyes some sparkle. I apply this with a steady hand as upper lid liner and I use a black or silver pen on the bottom lid, then I apply mascara.
If you use it in this way, one thing you have to be careful about is putting too much powder on the line of the upper lid. Because of the natural tendency to blink, you can end up with lines of colour on the eyesocket part of the lid. However, as long as you do not put too much shadow, you do not run this risk and depending on the colour it is not too noticeable.
You can also use it the conventional way by using the lighter colour on the brow zone and blending into the brow with your fingeror a brush. You then apply the darker shade to the eyelid and blending where the two meet.
What do I think?
I love them because you get a range of funky colour combinations which you can use individually or together. With these colour combinations, one pen can give you either a dramatic look or a natural look, you have the choice or you can blend the two. The neat design means it fits into any make-up bag with being too bulky and because the eye shadow is contained within the cap it means you don't waste any of the product trying to use or dispense it. It is an innovative way of using loose eye shadow.
My pens have lasted a long time and still have not run out, so there is more than enough product to use either before you run out or get bored of the colours.

Just remove the lid and you are ready to apply the powder eye shadow / There is no need to worry about dosage / the lid will automatically apply the right level of powder / Better still, you have all the benefits of a loose powder eye-shadow, without the worry of excess spilling on to cheeks /
