brilliant foundation at a not so extravagant price.

Being given a £5 off Ruby and Millie voucher I decided to check out their range as I usually never tried it as they looked expensive. I needed a new foundation so I saw this one and tried the tester. The foundation was a great consistency just the right amount for coverage without being too runny or just sticking to the one place of your face.

I paid £11 in boots (because I had my voucher) and got home and put it on immediately to see how good it was. Upon application I found that the applicator that is on the lid is good for putting it on the areas but you will need a sponge or brush to even it out. One fault I did notice was that the foundation appeared much darker than I thought so maybe go one shade lighter than your colour. This is a foundation with definite staying power, brilliant for coverage and it also has spf 15 in it which is brilliant.

Everything I want in a foundation but the price is a bit much for me just now so I need to save each time for it. But you get a great amount of product in the bottle lasted me about 2-3 months.

The bottle is a nice design makes it look very high class. a misty glass bottle with a silver lid with the designers names across the top (Ruby & Millie). On my bottle however the clear pastic covering the silver plastic lid broke off. The bottle was still sealed good but that was another fault.

A great mid-price foundation from Ruby & Millie

When it comes to foundation, I think they all now come up against the Bare Minerals benchmark, as I've found it such a revelation, but before my discovery of Bare Minerals, Ruby & Millie's base was my foundation of choice. At £15.17 from Boots for a large bottle (£50.57 per 100ml), it's a mid-priced foundation, on a par price-wise with a brand like Maxfactor, but the results it achieves are far superior.

The bottle itself is lovely and classy looking - a heavy glass cylinder with a silver top and a nice strip of glass topping the lid. The lid has a spatula attached which is how you apply the foundation, using it as a dipper. My only real issue with this product is the packaging - the spatula application method means that although the bottle is huge and contains loads of foundation, getting that last bit out is impossible. Also, and this may be that I'm clumsy (but another review did note this too!), but it's very easy to leave the lid not screwed in properly and then pick it up by the lid to throw it back in your make-up bag, spilling foundation all over your dressing table. Ok, so this is partly my forgetfulness, but not a problem I've had with any other foundation.

It comes in a variety of shades to suit all skin tones - I have no. 2 which I find a good match for my olive (but not too dark) skin.

But onto the foundation itself... The formula is oil free, so suitable for all skin types but particularly good for my combination skin. It also contains an SPF 15, which is a great feature for any skincare product. Application is easy - personally I like to use a sponge, so I just apply a small amount to the sponge using the spatula and then apply to my face. Of course you could use your fingers, but I do find that the sponge gives better coverage and a smoother finish. The texture is nice, fairly runny, but applies very smooth and I find that the coverage on this is great - you only need a small amount, it's easy to blend and it covers a large area. I also find this is great if you apply just another layer over areas that need a bit more help - for me it's my dark circles - and it often managers to eliminate the need for concealer. I often find liquid foundations a bit sticky and can dry my skin out but this feels lovely and smooth on the skin. Beware of applying too much, as it can look a bit heavy, as well as just being a waste! Once applied I find that my skin tone is more even, and my whole face looks smoother. In comparison to other liquid foundations, I find that the staying power of this is very good - it does last the whole day. With combination skin I often find that the oilier parts of my face cause foundation to fade sooner, leaving a patchy result towards the end of the day. This doesn't do that, which I find impressive.

My overall judgement on this is very much clouded by my new discovery of Bare Minerals - BBM (before Bare Minerals) I rated this really highly, and above more expensive brands like Lancome. But ABM (after Bare Minerals) I find that this can feel a little bit heavy on my skin at times, and I can really tell that I'm wearing it. But for the price, I really can't rate another foundation higher than this - the bottle lasts me a good 4 months when applying it every day, and the quality is better than many of the premium brands.

Really nice, defo wotrth a few extra £s

I have tried lots of different brands of foundation, & was very happy with this one. The foundation itself wasn't overley cheap, but didn't find it really expensive & definetly thought it was worth the money. The first time I tried it, I didn't find it particularly heavy or sticky & found that it blended really well & lasted for several hours. It has a nice texture also on my skin & think that it blends easily without appearing orange or over the top, or leave any 'tide marks'! I think it's definetly worth spending a little extra to get good quality, especially on something that you would use as regularly as this. I have noticed that there was a very large selection also so was able to get one to match my skin tone very easily. I thought that the packaging was very nice also. Genuinely enjoyed this foundation & think is one I will be sticking with

          Disadvantages

This really does give you a long lasting flawless finish!

Out of the many foundations I have tried this by far the best one! I've tried everything from the very cheapest available, right up to the high priced premium and designer brands. Ruby and Millie falls somewhere between these two categories, coming in at a mid-high range price and being recognised as being a make up artists foundation whilst not being quite so prestige as say MAC for example.

Performance wise it is above and beyond the higher price brands I have tried, including Elizabeth Arden and Calvin Klein, it really outshines them in every way. This is a product designed by make up artists and it shows.

The foundation itself is a liquid consistency but there is absolutely no compromising on coverage, this is the best coverage I've ever achieved with any foundation, including thicker ones. Due to its liquid consistency it is very easy to apply and to blend and gives such a flawless natural finish to the face. It also works well to build up in layers. For example, I may use two or even three layers on areas that need coverage (black heads, enlarged pores, spots etc) and one layer most other places, and even have parts of my face (cheeks) bare and you will not be able to see any lines and the appearance is anything but patchy. It really just works so well however you want to use it.

It comes in a glass bottle, like the one seen at the top of the page. The packaging looks very simple and classy and gives a quite expensive look to the product. It is however the one thing about the product that lets it down slightly. You unscrew the lid and attached to it is a sort of long rectangular dipper that dips into the bottle of foundation to get some foundation out. This in itself is fairly easy to use, although there is more chance of spillage than with other types of bottle. Also I have found that if I then leave the lid on top, without having screwed it back on whilst I'm applying the foundation, that I can forget and when I go to pick up the foundation by the lid (since it's quite a big area of the bottle) then it could very easily be spilled. Luckily I've avoided it so far but it is a hazard to be aware of. Due to the dipper into a glass bottle method of getting foundation, it means that it will be hard to get product at the end and you won't get to use every last bit. On top of this, on all bottles I've had, the lid comes in two parts, an inner metal bit with a transparent plastic outer bit - the plastic bit always seems to crack and end up coming off after not long.

The packaging is a downside but because the product is so great I don't feel it deserves to lose a star even for that. This really is the best foundation I've ever used.

It is available in many shades to suit everything from the palest to the darkest of skin.

It is advertised as being a "long lasting flawless finish" foundation and this description couldn't be more accurate. The look it gives you really is flawless, it just blends seamlessly with your skin and makes your skin seriously look flawless by covering all imperfections and evening out the skin tone. It is also definitely long lasting, whilst eventually it will wear off like other foundations, it lasts better than any other I've tried, lasting throughout the day without transference and when it does fade it seems to do so quite un noticeably - definitely not in patches.

It is suitable for all skin types, has an oil free formula and has the added bonus of an SPF15. I really think this is good for all skin types, as it is oil free it suitable for greasy skins, and will cover there imperfections, but the liquid formula isn't drying on dry skins and it works perfectly on any skin in between.

They say it has a smooth texture and medium to high coverage. This is exactly what makes it perfect for me. It does have such a high coverage, the ability to layer making that variable from medium-high. It honestly has the best coverage of any foundation I've used, but without being heavy, cakey or looking un natural.

At £15.50 it's not the cheapest of foundations but it's also not as highly priced as some others which don't work nearly as well as it. It will last a few months and a little longer than other foundations as a little really goes a long way due to its high coverage and easy blendability but there is the downside that you can't use every last bit of the product due to the design of the bottle.

Whilst I can't afford to always use this foundation it is without a doubt my favourite and the one I will always return to every time I can afford a bottle. I really would be surprised if there is a better foundation out there than this.
