Advantages: Cheap and soft
Disadvantages: Smaller and thinner than other cotton wool pads
I have used cotton wool pads for years and have tried many brands during this time. My main uses for these are to apply cleanser and toner to my face and to remove my make up at the end of the day. Earlier in the year I read a positive review of these cotton wool pads and as I have been trying more basic products in an effort to cut my outgoings I thought I would give these a try.
The packaging
These cotton wool pads are part of Sainsbury's basics range and so have the familiar orange and white packaging of all the products in this range. As with most cotton wool pads the plastic packaging gives you the option of opening it at either end. The bottom of the pack has a circle perforated that you can tear away to access the pads, on the couple of packs I've had the plastic has ripped rather than following the perforations but I am easily able to access the pads. The top opening is similar but has 2 strings that you can pull allowing you to hang these pads up in your bathroom if you wish. I have never done this and just keep them in the bathroom cupboard.
The cotton wool pads
The pads are made of 100% pure cotton and as such are softer than I was expecting them to be. Where they are lacking is in the size, they are noticeably smaller than other pads I've used and also thinner. In a pack you get approximately 80 pads, I am used to getting 100 pads in a pack so these don't last as long.
In terms of use I find they work well enough, I only wear light make up so by the end of the day it is mainly mascara that I am removing. These don't pull on my skin and feel gentle when I wipe them across my eyes. Being thinner I do find that my cleanser soaks through them and is coming out of the other side, this doesn't happen with other pads I have used.
Price and availability
These cotton wool pads are available from Sainsbury's stores and Sainsbury's online, costing only 49p they are great value for money. I was worried that I would end up needing to use more of these pads to compensate for the poorer quality therefore making them less cost effective, this has not been the case I'm pleased to say.
Would I recommend?
Yes these are great for everyday use but if you want to remove heavy make up then you are probably better off spending a bit more.
Summary: Good cotton wool pads from Sainsbury's basics
