An excellent product which helps protect nails from breaking

I've been meaning to try this product for a long time but have only recently actually got around to it. My nails are actually pretty healthy and strong but I'm constantly breaking them at work which is really annoying as I never just have nice nails all the same length! So on my last holiday I let them grow, had a manicure then bought some Hard as Nail Wraps to use in the hope that it would stop me from breaking them so often. It cost me £7.49 from Superdrug.

The one I have is different to the one pictured. The one in the picture seems to be a coloured nail varnish with the Hard as Nails formula in it, but mine is just a clear gel. It comes in a blue semi-transparent bottle which is almost cylindrical and has a screw off lid with a brush attached to the inside just like a nail varnish.

The formula is like a thick nail varnish and it is really easy to apply, going on smoothly and evenly. It dries pretty quick so if you're not a seasoned nail painter you might find it more difficult to apply as it will begin to dry before you're finished applying it, but if you're good at nail painting it should be dead easy. The best thing is that it's touch dry in less than a minute (unless you apply too much in which case it will take longer.) I'd say it's then fully dry within 5 minutes which is pretty good for any nail varnish really.

I like the way this makes my nails look with it being clear, it just makes them look shiny, glossy and healthy. This is perfect for me as I'm not allowed to wear colour on my nails for work, but if you like to use colour you can simply treat this as a base coat and apply varnish over the top.

I've been applying this weekly now for about 2 months. I just remove it with my usual nail polish remover and apply a fresh coat each week. I find it wears well on my nails and even after washing up etc I don't find it chips or wears away like nail varnish so often does, and when I come to take it off at the end of the week it still looks nearly as perfect as when I first applied it.

I have found that this has really helped my nails and I actually haven't broken a single one since I started using it, so it's definitely done it's job for me. For the first time in years I have lovely strong, healthy looking long nails and haven't had to cut them all really short to match a broken one. This to me is amazing and makes it totally worth the money. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who struggles all the time with broken nails, it really does work.

A Great Idea That Somehow Doesnt Work!

Ive been meaning to review this product for quite some time now as there always seems to be a bottle of this lurking around the bathroom courtesy of my mom - to be totally honest Im not sure why she buys it as she is contsantly biting her nails! I used to have the really horrible habit of biting my nails but in the last few years Ive seemed to grow out of it but yet my nails never get very long before they simply break off. Now I do wear false nails pretty much everyday but putting them on all the time can be a bit of a hassle so Im always on the lookout for a product that will help me get longer nails naturally and that is why I started using this one.

      Price: Around £3.50
      Stockists: Boots, Amazon
Shades: Clear (the one I personally own), Tint, Sheer Pink Gloss & Sheer Beige Gloss. I only own the clear shade so I cant comment on what the colours are like but I think the Sheer Pink one would be great for really natural looking nails.
For: Preventing chipping, spilting or peeling of your nails whilst helping them to grow longer naturally. Also contains acrylic nail gel & nylon for a professional finish.

I must have a slightly older bottle design than the one in the image as mine is baby blue and gold and the bottle is slightly bigger. Theres nothing special about application with this and it is a lot like a runnier version of your bog standad clear nail varnish. You dont need much to coat the whole nail so a bottle will last a very long time but for apparant best results you are supposed to use the Sally Hansen base coat underneath this but I personally never have. I think it is also suitable for use on painted nails after they are totally dry - Ive never found that it smudges or streaks the colour.

I assumed this would look like a normal clear varnish when its actually on your nails and immediately it does but then it seems to sort of sink into your nails and while your nails do look shinier and glossier there is no trace of this on your nails after about 5 minutes at the most. I dont know whether that a good or a bad thing in all honesty - Im leaning towards bad.

Now Im not totally sure this is helping my nails too much. I think it definately helps them to grow longer than Ive ever seen them but then they still break when they reach a certian length even when Im trying to be dead craeful with them! I think Im only going to give this 2 stars overall because it does have some great things about it and it even when applied over nail varnish makes the colour last longer without chipping but the pros simply dont outweigh the cons sadly and my nails remain shiny but short and stubby.

      Advantages

      Disadvantages

I was impressed with this Sally Hansen product.

I wanted to try this product for ages, having seen it in Boots every time I pass and I kept telling myself that I didn't need it! I finally caved in and bought it and I'm quite glad I did. I fell for the sales pitch: "This is the perfect nail polish solution for women who want hard, strong, beautiful nails but do not have time for salon visits and expensive nail wraps."

      **The product***
This is a review of Sally Hansen's Hard as Wraps product from the Hard as Nails range. It's described as a 1 step acrylic wrap which will help your nails to strengthen and grow.

      **Comes in clear and colour***
My bottle isn't red like the picture, it's a blue bottle containing clear nail varnish so makes a perfect base coat. The product code on my bottle is z3039.

      **What it claims***
If you have fragile, soft, damaged, chipped or cracked nails your will get smooth, strong, hard as wraps nails. How it works: Nail shield with 'breakthrough' patented formula provides an instant long-lasting surface and smooth finish in one step. To use: shake gently, apply 1 coat to clean, dry, bare nails. Let dry.

      ***Application**
You apply the product to your clean nail and it instantly seals and hardens in 60 seconds. It's quite thick and gloopy as it goes on. I then went on to paint a colour (red - for Valentine's day) and then a clear top coat to help quick dry and prevent tacky nail syndrome.

      **Result? ***
Did it work? Yes, I think it helped to make a thicker more 'gel style' nail finish, but I also found that you had to apply the nail gel hardener quickly or you got 'strands' from the brush to the nail (like a thin glue). It didn't feel uncomfortable and I also think it helped make my nails look shinier.

      ***OK on it's own?***
You could wear this product on its own and it would just look like clear nail varnish.

      ***Lasting effect?***
My nails looked perfect for three days, then sadly one thumb nail varnish peeled off. The rest of my nails looked great though so this may have been unlucky. Three days of perfect manicure is good for me though as I am not very dainty with my hands so they do get put through a lot.

      **Removing**
I was a bit worried that as it was sold as a 'nail gel hardener' it might need a special product to remove, but as this was not mentioned anywhere on the packaging, I tried bog standard nail polish remover and happily it worked well on removing all the product.

      **Price***
This product is a bit pricey I think. I paid around £8 for this product, a 13ml bottle, from Boots but I think it will last me a while as I won't use it every time.

      **Any downside?***
I had to be careful when letting the nails dry / set as there was essentially four coats of varnish (including one thick one) so any knocks would dent it but I did find it dried quite quickly. Also, when I removed the polish after three days my nails were peeling a lot and didn't look in great condition, despite my best efforts to use nail oil, cuticle cream and hand cream etc.

      **Verdict**
I don't doubt this product strengthens and encourages nail growth but I think this is only whilst you have it on and I also think it dries out your nails. Whilst the polish is on you'll have strong and hardy nails but when it comes off you'll want to immediately cover up their condition.

I liked the fact that you could probably get a week out of this product without having to re-do them. I also liked the shine factor achieved and I believe this is down to the product evening out any imperfections on the nail.

Would I buy again? Yes, I think it's different to any other DIY nail product out there and although it's expensive, I would keep a bottle of this in for when I want to do a long lasting manicure although I won't wear it all the time on my nails.

        Advantages

        Disadvantages

Doesn't provide the hardness factor as stated

After many years of not bothering, I've decided to grow my nails long. Although my nails do manage to grow quite long, and I don't bite them, I have a real problem as they're very soft and break easily. I've no idea why. I eat loads of protein, calcium etc, but they've been this way all my life. As soon as they reach a certain length, they invariably break. And when they break, it's always right down level with the nail bed, so the whole nail has to be cut short. It's just something that's peculiar to me. I'm actually incredibly jealous of my son's nails. They grow unbelievably quickly and I have a real struggle trying to get the nail clippers through them. It's just not fair.

I've thought about those acrylic wrap things. People at work used to have these impressively long and decorated nails. But they were acrylic wraps. Acrylic is extremely tough but once you've had that stuff put over your nails, the nail underneath is often weakened, so I didn't want to go down that route.

I've tried many nail hardeners over the years, all promising me stronger and longer lasting nails. None of them ever helped or seemed to provide any more strength than normal nail polish. So, a few weeks ago I was browsing the nail care section to see what was new on the scene.

My eyes were drawn to this Sally Hansen 'Hard as Wraps, Hard as Nails', polish. It comes in a range of colours as well as clear. It promises to be the ideal solution for women wanting strong and hard nails but don't have time to visit a nail salon or want expensive wraps. It also states it seals and hardens nails with an instant, long-lasting wrap like surface and a smooth, shiny finish.

Its ingredients include a patented formula with Acrylic Gel and nylon.

This sounded like exactly what my nails needed. I purchased one of the small 13ml clear polishes which is packaged in a blue bottle with a brush applicator inside.

After preparing my nails, I applied a couple of coats of this polish, waiting for each coat to dry in between. My nails looked nice and shiny. I just needed to wait a couple of weeks for my nails to grow.

After two weeks, my nails had grown sufficiently long enough for me to test the 'hardness' promise. I'm sorry to say that after applying the nail polish, my nails were no harder than before. They still feel very soft and bend when I press the ends. This in turn causes the polish to crack where the nail has bent which leads to the polish gradually peeling away over the next day or two.

As to its long lasting promises, the longest it's lasted without showing any signs of peeling or flaking, is one day. I don't know if I have exceptionally soft nails or if I put my nails through a whole lot more wear and tear than the average person, but I don't feel this polish has lived up to its claims of hardening the nails at all. On the slightly positive side, my nails haven't been peeling as they often do. I don't know whether this is the effect of the polish or whether it's because I've kept my nails covered with polishes rather than left at the mercy of the elements.

Another problem after a few uses of the polish is the collection of big clumps of dried polish all around the bottle opening, making it very difficult to open. I think this occurs because each time you dip the brush into the polish then extract it again, it pulls up sticky trails of polish, like spider webs. These then clump together each time you close the bottle and dry into a sticky, hard mass.

I won't purchase this particular brand of polish again, but it won't stop me trying out other varieties. Hopefully, there is a polish out there that will do what it claims.

Very good product for making nails strong

As it says Hard as Nails! This does actually work and is a very good product for making your nails harder. Applies like a nail varnish, but is quite thick and as it says its a gel product. Be sure to apply this quickly as it can become quite sticky on the nail and if you take your time in applying you may lose the smooth texture. Dries quickly aswell, within about 2 minutes i'd say you'll be ready to apply your own nail varnish on top although i'd recommend it to wear alone too as it gives a nice shiny glossy look to your nails. Also acts as a good base for when painting your nails sort of kill two birds with one stone, you get a good hardener for your nails and a base coat! Can be easily removed by using nail varnish remover too. Overall good product, well worth the money and saves on expensive trips to a salon for wraps! I personally have found this product very good as i am currently growing my nails after years of biting them so they are quite weak but its helping to make them look and feel stronger.
