Advantages: Works almost immediately, long lasting
Disadvantages: Only available online in the UK
I try not to complain about various ailments that seem to be creeping up on me as I settle into middle age. I can ignore the pains I get in my back if I stand in an awkward position for too long. I can cope with the awful sinusitis I seem to get regularly, and the hayfever that didn't hit until I gave birth.
One thing I cannot cope with however is dry lips. As soon as I feel that awful dryness hit my lips I need a lip balm, and having suffered for years I have learned the hard way that many products make bold claims but few actually offer what I really need - and that is long lasting relief.
One of the few brands that does however is Savex.
I first encountered Savex on a trip to the USA - at that time I had been using Carmex and was in a drugstore looking for a lip balm and couldn't find it. However Savex was on the shelves and I thought I would give it a whirl. From then on I was converted!
Savex, like Carmex, is available in a little pot, in Savex's case, a little blue pot containing 7g of balm. Savex differs from Carmex because it doesn't claim to treat cold sores however - this is purely to soothe and moisturise dry lips.
It is also a completely different consistency. Unlike Carmex which I find is a bit waxy, Savex is smoother and a little runnier - it reminds me a little of honey.
To apply, you use your fingers - smear a little of this balm on your finger and then onto your mouth, and hey presto - your lips will start feeling moisturised almost immediately! Even better it's a long lasting relief - not one that lasts a few minutes and rapidly wears off again, requiring endless re-applications.
It is this almost instant relief that keeps me buying this stuff, along with the lovely gloss I get on my lips - this is, I feel, caused by the runnier consistency but you can easily substitute your clear lipgloss for Savex.
Now for a couple of years I was bulk buying this stuff on trips to the USA and ever so disappointed that Carmex was readily available over here and raved about, whilst poor old Savex was ignored.
However thanks to the joys of the internet, Savex is readily available in the UK through the website Wellbury. It costs just £1.95 and I can recommend this website for speedy service.
If you want a lip balm specifically for dry lips, I highly recommend you try Savex, which is available from here:-

Please note delivery from Wellbury costs £1.50 but is free on orders over £15 so it might be worth browsing the site!
Summary: Ditch the yellow pot for the blue Savex one!
