SBC Fluid Base Foundation in Light
Since I discovered my love for liquid foundation again after a few years of mineral powders but not being overly happy with it, but used it because it "matched" my skin type, I have been looking and buying new foundations. Ever since I bought Stargazer White Foundation (also reviewed) I don't have a problem matching any liquid foundations to my skin tone anymore.
I knew SBC (Simply Beautiful Cosmetics) did gels for body and face etc and supply the beauty industry with them including QVCUK. I also knew they do a makeup range but I didn't go searching for it as I heard it wasn't as good as people wanted it to be and wasn't rated very good. SBC's makeup range is used in collages for beauty therapists while training in makeup. So you won't find this range in shops. After I decided for myself to search for it and see what people were complaining about, I found it on the Internet at http://www.sbc-gels.co.uk/sbc-fluid-base-foundation-light-50ml.html for a very good price of £7.49, normal RRP price is £11.99 for 50mls. I have paid this amount for high street brands for 30mls.
SBC say this foundation come in three shades including, light, medium and dark, which can be blended to achieve a variety of skin tones. This foundation is oil and water blended, provides excellent coverage with a matte finish. This foundation is ideal for oily skin types.
To me this foundation sounds great to what SBC have said about it, the price and the 50ml size is all a winner for me, so I decided to ignore what everyone said about it and buy it and decide for myself.
It arrived within a few days and I couldn't wait to try it. The bottle isn't the best looking bottle in the world but it is what is inside that counts. It comes in a slightly frosted glass jar and a shiny black screw lid with SBC written at the top in gold writing. It doesn't come with a pump dispenser but I have noticed a lot of foundations don't including, MAC, Bobbi Brown etc.
The foundation itself is quite runny in consistency, almost like Maybelline Mineral Liquid Foundation. Even though I bought this in light, it was still quite dark for my skin tone, but SBC did say on their site this foundation can be blended so out came my Stargazer White Foundation. I actually did one half of my face with the foundation without blending anything into it to see what it would be like and in compression I mixed it with White Foundation for the other half of my face.
The first half without blended looked darker than my normal skin tone, but I knew this. It is very easy to apply as it is slightly runny so there was no need to wet my foundation brush before hand to get it to blend into my skin properly. My cheeks before hand we're slightly red and uneven, it evened my skin tone out completely. My skin looked healthier and matte with a slight dewy finish that doesn't look greasy or oily at all.
It doesn't provide a heavy coverage so if this is what you like this won't be the foundation for you, although you can apply more for a more heavy look. It feels very light on my face while doing all the above. At the moment I am wondering why everyone was moaning about this product as I am finding it to be great. Because this foundation is light it doesn't cover all flaws you may have so some concealer will come into play, but I find I have to do this with all the liquid foundations I have used, especially under the eye area so cover dark circles so I wouldn't rate this down because of it.
I did the other half of my face mixed with white foundation and it was just the same but with my colour match, this time I applied it with my fingers, it was still a good finish but I personally prefer my foundation brush.
You can apply powder over the top if you wish and through the day if you like, but it's not a foundation that you have to use powder afterwards to set it in place.
Even if you don't have the best looking skin in the world I would say it's still good for what it is.
I have been wearing this for a few weeks now and I like it a lot, it stays put, (it does come off with constant rubbing of the face, but tell me a foundation that doesn't do this), helps to keep my skin matte throughout the day, healthy looking, and covers well although you need to conceal bits.
It also doesn't break you out in spots like a lot of foundations do so I feel my skin is breathing.
At the end of a hard day it is very easy to remove, either with a cleansing lotion, cream or even facial wipes. I find my face to feel clean afterwards with no foundation left over.
So even though some people have rated this product not good, I have to disagree with them. I think this foundation is great, a product I will be buying again in the future.
