First of all, I'm quite shocked how highly this product rated considering my own experience. It all began with an impulse buy of sheer cover after a parade of adverts showcasing its 'miracle' results. All my life, I have always had major problems with dark circles under my eyes. Even when I was well rested, fully healthy they remained the same. So naturally when I saw the seemingly promising results of sheer cover, I thought I was on to a winner! The 'Medium' shade seemed to fit my skintone and was so excited to try it. When I applied it, the shade blended too much into my skin that it didn't make a difference. Thinking I got the wrong shade, I requested for the light and dark shade. These were no good either. The light was far too light and the dark was too dark. In the end it was not the shade, it was just a poor product. Its inability to blend meant that regardless of the shade, the product was just too translucent to ever conceal the dark areas.
Of course everyone's skin is different and perhaps this might work well for blemishes, but for dark circles, this one just didn't live up to the hype. Disappointing.
I love testing out new make up especially with my type of skin (acne) I first saw on advert for sheer cover as a whole while I was at work once and when it moved onto the concealer it shower a woman with a massive birthmark on her face and with a speeded up video over time it showed make up artists covering it up with this and once they had finished you could tell the skin was discoloured but only slightly from her normal skin tone and I was amazed.
Wanting to try this for myself I bought this from sheer cover themselves for £20. I usually wouldn't pay this much but after seeing the video it was well worth paying that. this is 12g so of course it is quite small but I don't have anything overly large to cover up so I assumed this would last me.
I have really pale skin and the little problem this has is that it's duo concealer and not just one shade it's so you can mix them together to get another shade if you need to, I however only use the really pale side and so for me in my eyes I'm wasting the other side it's like just throwing £10 in the bin when I don't use the dark side.
This is a compact concealer, a little bit like paste. when buying they also sent me an application brush and I could tell that this was really high quality. So applying this to my problem areas such as my eyes, cheeks forehead and chin. I did a thin layer and this went on really smoothly leaving no creases in the concealer.
The effects where massive! I looked really awake and alert because my eyes were lighter and less dark circles. This completely smoothened and covered up my acne, it made it appear to look more smooth asif there were less bumps in my skin and this was lovely to see.
I used my normal foundation over the top of this and they worked really well together and blended brilliantly. The concealer surprisingly lasted me months on end simply because this goes really far, there is no need to apply a great deal of this.
Having had a lot of problems with my skin complexion on my face I try to be careful what I put on now, but because some times it's hard for my make up to stay on my skin in certain places which is a really big hassle and a big waste of money. So I began searching for a good concealer to help cover up the imperfections on my face, my sister had bought a full box of sheer cover products that came through every few months and let me try this concealer.
This is about 1.5inches big so it quite small, it is 12g, one side is light and the other is dark, you can either use one, or you can mix them together to make a stronger concealer, my sister used to use the darker one, but because of my skin colour I had to use the light side, which worked out perfectly, with this came a concealer brush making the application a lot smoother and even and also meant you didn't use as much as you would with your fingers.
I used this under my eyes, the side of my nose, my cheeks and parts of my chin, this is quite a lot of coverage that I needed, but even without the foundation on top my face looked so much better and fresher than it had in a long time, despite it only being a concealer this boost my confidence because I felt I had nicer skin, this is long lasting as well, this won't rub off or wear off through the day, but will of course get damaged in the rain!
This concealer is quite expensive, you can buy this brand new from ebay for £12 - £17 which is quite expensive, but when it does the job it's supposed to you can't complain, this will last you about 2 - 3 months if you use all of it, I highly recommend this to every one!
As you may well have gathered by now I am a Sheer Cover addict, along with a couple of other brands, it's one where I think I can use this product, knowing it will be great and suit my skin type completely. It's never a waste of money buying products from their range I just wish they'd do a few more products (nail polish and matte blush please!). So, this review is going to be all about their Duo Concealer which, if you have problematic skin, is the thing you need!
When I was a teenager I was seriously lucky. A girl at college used to call me 'the girl with the perfect skin' before we got talking and she learnt my actual name (which is no where near as cool). Anyway, I hit my twenties and my skin just became so problematic it was untrue - every month I'd get a new smattering of spots, but the old ones would scar and before I knew it, there wasn't an inch of my skin I was happy with.
Sheer Cover was originally a product in the USA which was developed to help people with serious acne to cover up their scars or bad skin, but without making it look like they were wearing a mask. With its huge success it was developed to be extended to the mass market and though today's make up range formula does differ slightly from that original formula, it still provides exceptional coverage within making it look like you're hiding behind a mask.
The Duo Concealer comes in a small round pot which has a flip lid secured with a small safety catch. It's plastic and transparent with the elegant black, block caps signature Sheer Cover font. Inside there are two sections with two different shades of Concealer, one lighter than the other. Each half is 1.5g, making the product 3g in total. It costs £17.95 RRP and is available from www.sheercover.co.uk, or by calling their dedicated helpline where you can also get support and advice on the product from people who've actually used it and know what they are talking about! A 3g tub lasts around 90 days with daily use, or you can get a smaller tub as part of the 30 day trial kit which is full of mineral make up, cleanser, moisturiser, etc - check out the site for more details.
You may think £17.95 is a lot for a Concealer - particularly people who have pretty good overall skin condition. But, Sheer Cover is that convinced that you will find the product value for money and completely fall in love with it, that they actually offer you a 90 day money back guarantee - valid even if you have used the entire product! But, based on my experience, I wouldn't think they get many returned!
The Concealer consistency is rich and creamy. I apply it using a brush in the first instance. You get two shades as I mention and I have really pale skin, so I use the Light/Medium shade. For general concealing of blemishes I use a mixture of the two shades, I achieve this by taking a sweep of the light first with my brush, then a sweep of the medium (so as not to darken the light shade section). I swizzle the brush on the back of my hand to melt the two colours together and then I set about applying it to my blemish. I try to focus on the red area around the blemish first and then a little final sweep across the top - using my finger tip (clean hands of course!) I then 'melt' the Concealer in to my face to finish the cover up naturally.
Using the light shade only, I apply a sweep across my under eye area to cover up any dark circles and I also do a little sweep over my lids (this provides a great base for eye shadow!). Finally, using a technique called 'cross hatching' I apply the Concealer using a brush and cross hatch it across my face, as I have quite red skin across my cheeks which I am quite mindful of; I finish by melting it into my skin with my fingers.
The Concealer is so thick you'd think it would just sit on your skin like a mask - but seriously it doesn't at all. With the brush it is applied so sparingly and then the addition of the warmth from your finger melting it in to your skin it's just so amazing. My skin actually looks almost like that skin I was so unwittingly blessed with as a teen! It provides full coverage, but without Concealer 'cakes' around your spots or trowel marks where you've piled it on! In fact, when used with the rest of the Sheer Cover system it does make you look almost 'Camera ready' - my biggest tip for this though is to apply it in natural light at a window or outside if need be, because you need to see which blend of the two shades match your skin best. At least for the first few times until you become a pro at blending and application.
Without the rest of the Sheer Cover system this product still packs a punch and used on properly cleansed and moisturised skin, it can hold it's own without even using foundation, powder, loose powder, etc. The staying power is great too. It doesn't last through rigorous exercise, but it won't transfer on to clothing or 'slip', you know when you end up with Concealer around a spot but not actually covering it! There's also a Medium / Tan shade for people with Olive undertones, or skin that has a tan (think Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria) or the Tan / Dark shade for Black and Brown skin tones - African, Caribbean and Indian women (think Beyonce, Halle Berry). Light / Medium is good for pale skin like mine, or pink undertones (like Britney, Jessica Simpson).
The product comes with a 36 month shelf life, so if you're like me and save make up only for special occasions or times of trouble, then this product will last you at least 24 of those 36 months. If you use Concealer each day, then this is a 3 month / 90 day supply approximately, though a couple of my friends' use it each day (following my recommendation!) and they get about 4 to 5 months out of one pot. I personally rate this excellent value for money as it works, lasts ages and I've shelled out £20+ on brand name Concealer and it's done nothing at all for me! Oh, and one last thing; because this product is from Sheer Cover, who pride themselves on not using nasties in their make up formulas, it's actually good for your skin! So you can cover up your spots guilt free without worrying that the next day they will multiply!
