ELF tinted moisturiser (previous name is sheilding hydro tint)
I ordered some new products from ELF (eyes lips and face.co.uk), in which I bought this tinted moisturiser. I have reviewed the natural collection tinted moisturiser which is my favorite overall and I have also reviewed the nivea tinted moisturiser, so I can compare this product to both of those.
*About the product*
It comes attached to a small cardboard sheet which has quite a lot of information on the product. It is 12g or 0.42 us fl oz, they come in a wide range of shades and they all have the scent of 'sugar orange' according to the website. It comes in a small squeezy tube and it has a really tiny nozzle at the end, it also contains SPF 15.
*My opinion of the product*
I quite like the packaging although, it looks a bit cheap (probably because it was). It has quite a bit of information on the back of the tinted moisturiser, which is good. It also comes in a clear tube so you can see how much there is left of the product.
-Application and shade
I bought the lightest shade from the site, which is Ivory, on the site is looks really really pale, but when it arrived it looked like a darker shade than shown on the site, which was a bit disappointing, but it is still a good shade for my skin.
It says on the packaging that it "Hydrates, softens and smoothes skin/ Instant natural skin glow/ Helps protect against sun and skin aging/ Safe, Gentle formula". I find that it does make my skin smoother and hydrated. It also does not irritate my skin, which is always a concern for me when I buy cosmetics/skin products.
It has a quite thick, smooth texture and it applies really nicely. I really like that it has a small nozzle at the end so that you can have a lot of control over how much product you need, which is great for me as I always use way too much and end up wasting some of the product.
As a tinted moisturise (sheer, light foundation) it is really good. It does soften and hydrate my skin and I have really dry skin and it has enough moisture in it so that my skin does not flake, but it would be better it is was a bit more moisturising. It blends really well too and as it is a good match for my skin you can not tell that I have a lot of make up on, which is always a good thing. I use it as a concealer over my natural collection one or on its own all over my face and it works really well both ways.
One of the main positives about this product is that it is quite a light, so that on my dark circles and blemishes it is really brightening, which is great. It does not emphasize my imperfections and if I use it all over my face is has a overall brightening effect.
-Comparison with the natural collection foundation and nivea
In terms of shade the elf tinted moisturiser is the best, it is really quite light and it makes my skin look brighter and more radiant, which the other two foundations don't do. The moisturising effect for this product is good but the nivea one is best. The packaging for both the elf and natural collection product is not that great, so the nivea one has the best packaging.
Overall, the product that is the best of them at:
*Moisturising: Nivea be beautiful
*Range of shades and god for pale skin tones: ELF
*Everyday use: Natural collection
*Price: Natural collection
*Ease of blending: Natural collection and nivea
*Availability: Natural collection
*Amount of coverage: Nivea and natural collection
You can only buy this product online from www.eyeslipsface.co.uk and they cost £1.50 each, although delivery is then £2.95 on top of that price, so the natural collection one is the best in terms of price and also the amount of product for your money.
*Wide range of shades
*Ivory is a good match for my pale skin
*Good for dry skin
*Easy to blend
*Smells nice and sweet (although some people may see this as a negative)
*Good control over the amount of product is dispensed because of the small nozzle
*Does not irritate my skin
*Good coverage, although not a lot as it is a tinted moisturiser
*Shade is not the same as it is shown on the site, although it is still a good match
*You don't get a lot of product
Thank you for reading my review
First let me explain how I came across this product. I have a mirror in the house that has excellent lighting behind it, natural and revealing which sometimes also means alarming. I use this mirror to pluck my eyebrows, search for tiny blackheads, examine my lines and grey hairs in all their glory and every six months or so to check my make up is still complementing me and not looking caked on. I'm a firm believer that make up should compliment you and not make you look worse and as a woman in her thirties I'm well aware of the possibility that I sometimes need to change bits of my make up as my skin ages. There's nothing worse make up wise than a woman in her thirties or forties who wears the same make up she did in her twenties and has no idea it doesn't suit her anymore. This ages the woman further and makes us look like we've trowelled it on in an attempt to look younger and actually it has the opposite effect.
A few weeks ago I did one of these checks and discovered my foundation didn't suit me anymore. I've been using it for a few years and it was fine in the beginning but now it looked heavy and sat in my lines in a very unattractive way so I knew it was time to act. I tried mixing it half and half with moisturiser to lighten it up but that didn't make enough of a difference.
I've been waiting for an offer from E.L.F (www.eyeslipsface.co.uk) for a while as I like to order when the postage is reduced or free as I'm a skinflint and the offer finally arrived in my inbox so I hotfooted it to the website and placed my order for the items I wanted but remembered the foundation problem so started looking for a new one at the same time.
The shielding hydro tint caught my eye and I popped one in my basket. I hate shopping for foundation and didn't have a clue where to start. I've tried most brands from the ridiculously expensive to the very cheap and lots don't suit my dry skin so I didn't hold out much hope for this cheap product at £1.50 but thought if I didn't like it I could bin it at that price.
A couple of days later my order arrived and this small 12g tube of sheer foundation was there. I chose tone 1 out of the four shades which is the lightest one as I'm a very pale redhead. It comes attached to a card that tells us very little except it hydrates, illuminates and protects. It contains SPF 15 which is excellent for avoiding aging through sun damage.
The tube is about the size of a lipgloss and has a pointed nozzle with a screw on lid. No frills or fuss. Upon first glance I thought it looked a bit orange and my doubts multiplied but I decided to try it straight away. The actual product seems quite thick when you first squeeze it out but blends easily.
The instructions say to massage a pearl size amount into the face and neck before sun exposure, to avoid the eyes, discontinue use if a rash appears and keep away from children. I'm more of a blob on the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin kind of girl so I did it this way in my bedroom where I normally apply my make up then trotted off to the "mirror of truth" to have a critical look.
What I saw in the "mirror of truth" left me amazed! This sheer foundation had not only blended perfectly with no streaks but had indeed left me looking illiuminated, not in a "bits of glitter contained within" kind of way either, just really fresh, dewy skin. I couldn't believe the difference between this and my former foundation which had left my skin looking tired. The slight dark circles under my eyes were gone, my "english rose" complexion (which means some red in the cheeks) was evened out and I looked so fresh faced it had easily knocked 5 years off me! It also goes on without alot of shine so you could choose whether to use powder or not bother. Absolutely amazing!
I've worn this out a few times since and everyone who knows me always asks if I've done something different with my hair or if I've had a facial because I look much better than I did before. When I explain about this little miracle product they can't believe a £1.50 foundation could be so good, make their excuses and go home to buy some!!
I'm astounded how good this is. As I have dry skin foundation can be a problem but this one doesn't dry my skin out at all but on the other hand it isn't oily so I would say it would suit all skin types. The SPF is a must for me with my sun allergy so that's another bonus and it really gives amazing results. I've binned my previous expensive foundation and plan to continue with this one from now.
Any gripes? Actually considering I usually find something to complain about I'm struggling this time. My one gripe I suppose is it's only 12g in size so won't last ages but at least that way it won't go off I suppose and I plan to stock up!
This is a truly outstanding product which leaves my skin soft, fresh- looking and with an even skin tone. I can't recommend it highly enough and at £1.50 a pop it's amazing value as well.
I purchased the ELF Shielding Hydro Tint from the eyes lips and face website for £1.50 in 'Tone 1' the palest shade available from ELF. I brought this to use as a tinted moisturiser as I don't really like wearing heavy foundation during the day.
The product comes in a clear plastic tube with a white twist cap, and looks a bit like a lip gloss tube. The packaging looks fairly cheap, but this is one of the ways in which ELF can offer products so cheaply and the type of packaging that a product comes in shouldn't affect the way it works. This product is also lightly scented in 'sugar orange' and this scent is not unpleasant or overly strong.
The product comes out with a medium consistency; it is not overly thick or runny. The hydro tint is easy to apply to the face and feels smooth and velvety. I apply this product just using my fingers and find that it blends easily and has a pleasant texture. My skin feels fairly smooth and soft after applying this product but it doesn't feel particularly hydrated. The hydro tint hasn't dried my face out, but after applying this product I can feel it on my skin for a while. The hydro tint gives good coverage and helps to give an even colour to my face. This product also contains an inbuilt SPF 15, which is always an added bonus to help give added protection from sun damage without having to make any real change from your normal make up regime.
****Elf-Shielding Hydro-tint Spf 15 ****
I decided to try this because my friend got the wrong shade and was going to throw it out.
Eyes Lips Face is an American web site that sells cosmetics at really cheap prices-$1 on the usa one or for the uk the more expensive price of £1.50 :P.
This particular product comes in four different tones and they all have the same smell to them which is orange smell. There doesn't seem to be a lot of difference between tones 1-3 but i think that the fourth one is quite dark.
The packaging for this is quite cheap and simple-it comes in clear packaging like a cheap lipgloss tube. I would say though to use a brush or makeup sponge to apply it.
I would say that this blends quite nicely into your skin and does not leave your skin with a "tide mark"..It seems to be long lasting and i dont need to apply it throughout the day.
Overall i really like this product as it blends well, looks natural on and has a nice smell.
This doesnt have a long shelf life though so if you buy it use it quick or it starts to smell bad.
Update-i had this product for about 9 months and when i went to use it it brought me out in a rash so i would say that the shelf life is quite short.
This costs £1.50 like most products on the site and you get 12g.
I don't recommend this if you have sensitive skin and the shade range is really limited.
Eyeslipsface.co.uk is the sister site to american eyeslipsface.com. It is an online shopping site for makeup and cosmetics, and is sometimes referred to as ELF (eyes lips face). Its main claim / attraction is that (almost) everything is £1.50! In america it is cheaper still at $1 per item!
The ELF company has only been shipping to the UK since November 2007, but is already very popular.
The sheilding hydro tint contains SPF 15 which is a great idea in my opinion, and a perfect product for summer. The website claims it is able to "combat premature aging and protects against sun damage while leaving skin radiant and lightly hydrated."
The product is packaged simply. It has cardboard backing and a plastic covering to contain it. The actual product is presented in a tube with a screw cap. The applicator is a thin point. The tube is clear so you can see how much of the product is left, which is great because one of my pet hates is an opaque bottle because I then cannot see if I need to buy more of the product. Anyways, rant over! ... On the front of the tube is the companies initials e.l.f. and underneath that "Shielding Hydro-Tint SPF 15". This is written in a silver colour, but is easy to read.
There are 4 tones available for purchase, simply named tone 1, 2, 3 and 4. I chose tone 1 becuase I have quite pale skin, after using this product for a while I would say if in doubt, opt for the lighter tone because this stuff is quite tanned.
The directions for use are "Massage a pearl sized amount into face and neck daily", these directions are on the outer, disposable packaging which isn't the most sensible idea! This packaging also makes the following claims - "Sheer foundation with SPF 15", "Hydrates, illuminates and protects", "softens and smoothes skin", "instant natural radiant glow", "helps protect against sun and skin aging". A lot of claims for a £1.50 product!
The first thing I noticed was that the tube was quite small, I dont know how many ml, but the tube says it contains 12g of the product. When I first used it, I applied way too much, now I only apply a really small amount and have been using the same tube for a month and am not even half way through it.
The product seems to me to be just like a moisturiser with a little sun cream and a little colour. I have oily skin so now I use this instead of a moisturiser, I wear it underneath my foundation, and I think it helps the application of foundation because it created a smooth, moisturised base. I do not think I look any different with it on, but I wear it for the SPF factor. The coverage is not even existant, as it says it is "very sheer". A lot of the ELF products are scented, and this one is meant to smell of "Sugar Orange" as I am not sure what this is meant to smell like, I will just say it smells sweet and citrus-y and really nice :)
I will definately be buying this product again because it is like a sun cream and semi-primer, AND a moisturiser all in one little tube!
Well worth it! Thanks for reading :)
