I tried this at Libertys in London. I have dry skin and I'm always searching for products that will give my skin that fresh, dewy look. Even oils often fail to deliver as they sit on top of the skin. The depsea cream was a revelation. My skin looked and felt amazing. Definitely one to look out for. It's going to be my next moisturising purchase.
I love all Shu Uemura's cases. I like it how they keep it simple and clear so that you can immediately see the content. It is not luxurious like for example, Dior or Guerlain but it is also unpretentious. It is simple and clean and very direct. Shu Uemura has also included a little white cover inside the cap do stop the cream from drying out and also, I suppose, to stop other foreign substances from getting in and contaminating the cream.
Being 50ml, there is certainly a lot of the cream especially when you do not actually need that much each time to do the job. The cream is rather silky and soft; similar to the surface of a soft tofu. When it is spread and lightly tapped onto the skin, it gets rather quickly absorbed which is great. The skin does feel immediately moisturised (or 'replendished', as the name of this cream will have to believe). As I have learnt from the Shu Uemura Makeup Artists, apparently this cream is supposed to restore the moisture of the surface of the skin using the depsea water (drawn from a particular part of the ocean in Japan) whereas the emulsion in the same line (which is incidentally much lighter in its formula) is to deliver a more thorough moisture to the deeper levels of the skin.
However, there is one fatal consequence of this cream, given my generally oily skin. There is a fine line between 'moisturised' and 'oily' and it is very hard to draw that line for this cream. After you apply the cream, you are left with this sheen that, as a person with oily skin, I'm just too familiar with. When I touch my skin, I can feel the oil coming onto it.
So in conclusion, although I would definitely recommend this cream as a overnight secret weapon for the moisturised, well rested skin in the morning, and also for those with very very dry skin for the winter perhaps, I will most definitely tell those with oily skin or even combination skin to stay away from this cream, especially if you plan to put on some makeup after this cream.
