I have a huge passion for make up and usually buy a new make up product every week weather I purposely go to boots to buy make up or while at the supermarket doing my food shopping. I get lots of make up tips from youtube and like watching the tutorial videos as they always tell me how to create the look and what products they are using.
The last youtube make up tutorial video I watched was on how to apply a liquid eye liner, I ended up buying the eye liner the girl suggested. The eye liner was a black liquid eye liner by Sleek. Sleek is a new brand that I had not heard of before and can be purchased from larger Superdrug shops or the Sleek website. It cost me £3.79 from superdrug and I feel its a fraction of the price of other make up brands and good value for money.
The eye liner comes in a small pot with a long thin lid, the lid has the eye liner applicator attached to it making it mess free to store. The pot is black in colour and has the Sleek logo on it in hot pink writing, it looks cute and holds 4 mls of the black liquid eye liner.
Anyone who has ever attempted to apply a liquid eye liner will know how difficult it is to master the technique. You need a good steady hand and a mirror, I also find cotton wool buds and make up remover handy in case I make any mistakes. With the sleek eye liner I found the applicator brush had a fine nib on the end and found this allowed more control when applying it.
It took me a good few attempt before I got the hang of applying the liquid eye liner, I like to apply it at my dressing table with the mirror in front of me. I close the eye I am wanting to apply the eye liner to and then dip it into the eye liner pot making sure I do not over load the applicator with eye liner and apply it just above my eye lash line, starting in the inner corner of my eye and working my way to the outer eye and finish with a slight flick. I find it difficult to apply in one motion so I take my time and do line by line to create the look I want.
The eye liner felt cold and wet when applying it to my eye but take only a few seconds to dry, I try not to blink or move my eyes as it can be smudged very easily when wet. The applicator lid felt very long and difficult to hold at first but have got used to it over time and I am now a pro at applying it. The pigment of the black eye liner is fantastic it is jet black and creates a dramatic look, the staying power is fantastic and I find it lasts a good 10 hours before needing reapplied but I only ever use it when I am going on a night out. Although its not waterproof it did not budge in heavy rain but would not recommend wearing it to a wedding if you are the tearful kind. Sleek offer the eye liner in 9 different colours from metallics to purple shades, I cant wait to buy a metallic one to try.
I was delighted with the results from the eye liner and impressed with the Sleek brand for making such a high quality product at a affordable price and feel it deserves a place in my make up bag!
I recently bought the black Sleek Dip It Liquid Eyeliner as my MAC liner has ran out. As I wasn't bowled over by MAC liner I thought I would try a cheaper brand to do me until I could afford to try a more expensive brand. I was drawn to the Sleek stand as I use their eye shadow palette and other shadows nearly every day so I was happy to try out another product.
*~* The Product *~*
The black Dip it Eyeliner comes in a small black bottle with a long black lid. The nib is similar to that of a felt tip pen, with a fine tip. The bottle is very simple, all black with pink Sleek branding. The bottle hold 4ml of eyeliner.
It claims to be long lasting and high pigmented which I was keeping my fingers crossed was true!
The liner is available in 8 other colours;
*~* Price and Availability *~*
The Dip It eyeliner costs £3.79 on the Sleek website and is roughly the same price when bought it stores.
You can buy Sleek products from their website or buy in larger Superdrug stores. However even in the bigger Superdrug stores they never seem to have the full range of products, some Superdrug stores do not even sell Sleek at all which is a real shame, I personally have to go to the big shopping centres as the one closest to me does not sell it.
*~* Getting My Flick On *~*
I have to admit on my first use of this product I was slightly disappointed. The brush was hard to hold as the lid is very long as thin so it was hard to get a good hold on it. I also found the product to be a bit watery and when trying to draw on my flick I was erasing areas I had already applied the liner as it had not dried yet.
However, the more I have used this product the more I am growing to really like it. I have almost mastered the thin lid, it can still lead to the very uneven flicks some days but hey I can deal with that- on non special occasions. To make sure I get a good coat on my lid where I am applying the liner I just have to take my time, as this product does take slightly longer to dry than the MAC liner I had been previously using.
The colour is good, but in using it I have realised I should maybe have given my MAC liner more credit, as it was slightly blacker. However, the Sleek liner still does give good intensity it just isn't as thick as MAC, which for the price difference I shouldn't really expect.
If anyone did find the brush to tricky to use you could use an eyeliner brush and just dip that into the pot instead, so he problem is solvable.
One thing I have really appreciated is the liner's lasting power! Despite my other make up creasing or fading away this liner is the last to go! Which is great as the liner is what helps make my eyes look a little more vibrant. It does fade slightly as the day goes on, but not too much that I have to re-apply during the day.
*~* Overall *~*
For the price of this product I think it is really great. The bottle is a very nice shape but that lid is not the best for those new to liquid eyeliner! However, practise makes perfect and I would recommend this product to other should they ask. I haven't been blown away b this as I was my eye shadow palette and loose shadow but it will do me for now and should I need to buy a new liner I will definitely consider this again if my purse isn't up for trying out a more expensive brand.
