Advantages: Softens, conditions, protects and moisturises lips

Disadvantages: Smell, overpriced

I bought two of the Sleek pout polishes a few months ago when I spotted them on offer in Superdrug - I love Sleek products and thought that the lip balms would be worth trying seeing as they were reduced.

The retail price is around £4.50 I think and I paid £3.00 for each of mine, which I think is a much more reasonable price and I personally wouldn't pay the full retail price considering that Vaseline do a pretty much identical product for more than half the price!

The only difference between this and the Vaseline lip tint is that this is available in quite a few colours. I have it in 'raspberry souffle' which is a bright Barbie pink and 'electro peach' which is a nice bright shade of orangey red. The 'pot polish' is basically a tinted lip balm and Sleek describe it as a lip conditioner that nourishes and feels like a lip balm, whilst providing the look and colour of a subtle gloss.

The balm is enriched with sweet almond oil, avocado oil and jojoba oil which is probably why it's that bit more expensive. It also offers SPF 15 protection, which is always an advantage. The lip balm comes in a sturdy, transparent pocket sized pot which has a screw-top lid. The lid screws on and off securely so there's no worry that it will come off and leak everywhere! The lid is black with the brand and product name written on it and the packaging is pretty simple - nothing unique but not at all ugly or cheap looking.

Each pot contains 10 grams of product which considering the price isn't very much at all, however seeing as I only need quite a small amount each time I apply it, a pot does last for quite a while. I use the pink shade the most often and after around three months of regular use there is still over half left. The design of the pot means that it's necessary to use your fingers to apply it in the 'dip and dab' kinda style, which I am not that keen on, so I usually (if I'm not rushing) use a lip brush to apply it, which obviously doesn't always work well with lip balms but because this one isn't overlly sticky and is very smooth it is easy to apply it evenly with the brush.

The balm is quite waxy in texture so before I put some on my brush I need to rub my finger over it to melt it slightly, which doesn't take long. The texture is smooth and it's just the right consistency - not thick but not runny and it smoothes over my lips evenly. It feels nice and lightweight on my lips and not at all sticky or greasy. It stays in place and while it does give my lips a very slight sheen, it doesn't make them look over the top. The colour is sheer and gives my lips a slight hint of colour which looks natural and it's ideal for an au naturale/minimalistic make-up/day time look.

As soon as I apply this my lips feel well moisturised and softer. It leaves a protective, non greasy/non heavy layer on my lips and gets rid of any dryness almost instantly. It keeps my lips looking and feeling well conditioned and they look and feel softer since I first started using it. I wear this most days either on its own or over lipstick and it keeps my lips protected depite how cold and windy it is at the minute! It needs re-applying every couple of hours but the packaging is small enough to fit in my pocket.

The only thing that I am not keen on is the smell. It is a vanilla kind of scent and quite overpowering, I wouldn't mind if it smelt natural but it smells quite chemical-like and cheap. The scent lingers for a few minutes and then fades, but it is still slightly detectable several hours after application. Despite this minor disadvantage I do recommend this lip balm, however I won't be re-purchasing when I've used mine up because there are cheaper and just as good alternatives. Due to this, and the smell, I have knocked one star off and I give it four out of five stars.

Summary: 4/5
