Smashbox are a cosmetics company that originated from the studios of LA. I only heard of this brand around a year ago and weren't really familiar with any of their products, until I read reviews on dooyoo and ciao about some of their products such as primers and foundations that they sell. Smashbox have a large cosmetics range suitable for all skin colours and types. Their products are more expensive than high street brands such as Bourjois and Maybelline, how-ever their products are very good quality and create professional results that are longer lasting than products that you may find on the high street. Although there are other brands that may be similar to this brand such as Benefit & Gosh, this brand stuck out for me so I decided that I would try one or two products in their range to see if they were as good as they claimed. I currently use at least 3 different products in the Smashbox range and love the quality of the products so if I need a new item of make-up I always go to the Smashbox counter for a look. I always find the ladies at the Smashbox counter very helpful and they often offer to try the product on you to help you find one suited to your skin tone/colour. There is one particular lady at the Smashbox counter in my local Boots store who I find really helpful and also very polite so I always go to the counter when she is there

The product I am reviewing is made by Smashbox and is a under eye primer which is the first primer dedicated to the delicate skin under the eyes. The primer has a silky texture which you get with their other primers and it's infused with 10 breakthrough benefits to address every day eye woes. The primer also helps to keeps concealer looking fresh. This primer doesn't look cakey and doesn't settle into fine lines, so eyes always look well rested. You can wear the primer alone to instantly brighten the eye area or you can wear under concealer to keep it looking fresher. The silky texture means that concealer doesn't slip/wear off during the day. The primer is infused with anti-aging, good for your eyes ingredients such as caffeine, peptides and optical diffusers.
The primer provides hydration and helps to reduce the look of fine lines, puffiness and dark circles. The primer also helps to create an even skin tone ready for applying your concealer over the top. The primer comes in one shade, which should be suited to most people as the colour of the primer is a pinkish colour. The primer comes in a small black box which is the coloured packaging which all the Smashbox products come in. On the front of the box is a picture of the product and it also states what the product is. On the side you will find a list of ingredients and it also tells you a little about the product and how to apply it. The box opens to reveal a small plastic tube which is mainly clear but has a black top and black lid to it. On the front of the tube it states that this product is a Hydrating under Eye Primer. On the back of the tube it tells you a little about the product and again how to apply the product. You can clearly see the colour of the primer in the tube which looks slightly pink in colour. The lid to the tube unscrews easily to reveal a long nozzle with a small hole at the end where you can dispense the primer
I suffer from dark circles under my eyes and I always have and I wanted something to cover them up with. Ideally I was looking for a concealer for them, how-ever the lady at the Smashbox counter actually applied this primer before the concealer which helps the concealer to stay on. She also told me that the primer helps to give the under eye area some moisture as this area can become rather dry which means some make up can tend to look cakey. The primer would give a better coverage and ensure a natural look when the concealer is applied on top of it.

I purchased this from the Smashbox counter in my local boots store for £21.00 which is for 7.1ml of the product. You can also purchase this from www.smashbox.co.uk and various other places on the internet. Prices won't vary much wherever you purchase the product from. I like to get Smashbox products from my local Boots store so I can receive points on my advantage card.

Smashbox advise to use the primer alone to instantly brighten the eye area or use under concealer to keep it looking fresher. I was planning on using the primer under concealer. I had already applied some moisturiser and my normal primer on my face so now all I had to do was to apply this under my eyes and then I could apply concealer and the rest of my make-up. The tube that the primer comes in has a long nozzle so as you squeeze the tube to dispense some of the primer you can see it move down the tube. I dispensed a small amount of this onto the back of my hand ready to apply under my eyes. The primer is a light pink colour and it looks as though it has a little shimmer to it as well. (Please note that this primer only comes in the one shade). The primer has a nice consistency to it and isn't too thick but isn't runny either. I used my little finger to apply the primer under my eyes. The primer felt really smooth and soft as I applied it under my eyes. Although the primer has a pink shimmery look to it this didn't make the area under my eyes shimmery which I was surprised by. The primer instantly gave the area a cool feeling and it hydrated the area. The area instantly looked and felt moisturised.
I was planning on applying some concealer over the primer as I wanted to try and cover the dark circles under my eyes. The lady at the Smashbox counter recommended this to help the concealer last longer that it would normally if applying concealer straight to the skin, alone without primer. Although there are lots of other primers, this one has been made specifically for the under eye area which can become rather dry, even though it doesn't look or feel it. I left the primer for a good few minutes before applying the concealer over the top. I could tell immediately that the primer has helped to moisturise the under eye area as I found the concealer went on perfectly without settling into the fine lines under my eyes and without looking too cakey. The primer felt extremely light and I couldn't even tell that there was any primer under my eyes due to the light feel of the primer. Sometimes when I apply concealer it used to look dry, how-ever with using the primer this really helped to hydrate and smooth the area ready to the primer. As the primer is meant to help prolong concealer I would see how this performed when applying concealer on the top and going to meet a friend for the day. I was impressed that 6hrs after applying my make-up which included this under eye primer and concealer that my make up around the eye area still looked perfect. The primer definitely does a good job of helping to pro-long concealer and helps to make it last longer, I was really impressed.

I normally use my face primer under my eyes and around the eye area, how-ever it wasn't until recently that I came across this under eye primer when the lady at the Smashbox counter used it on me along with some of their concealer. Although some people may think that this doesn't does much of a different job to normal face primer I would have to disagree with them and say that this under eye primer is a lot more nourishing and better for use under the eyes. The primer kept my concealer looking fantastic all day and it made it last longer meaning that I didn't have to re-apply it during the day. I also felt as though the primer did a great job of hydrating and moisturising this area which can sometimes appear dry or feel a little dry. The eye area is very delicate due to the thin tissue here so it's important to keep good care of this area. When comparing this to the Photo-Finish Primer I use on my face this under eye primer definitely does a better job of helping to keep the concealer in place and also helps to reduce the concealer sinking into any fine lines around the area. In terms of value the primer does seems a little pricey for the small amount of primer that you get in the tube, how-ever you do only need to use a small amount of the primer and a little of it goes a long way. I don't use the primer every day and haven't worn the primer without concealer on top so I can't comment on how the primer looks on its own without concealer. I definitely feel that this primer does a really good job of keeping concealer looking fresh and it also helps it to last longer. I also found that the primer helps the under eye area to keep hydrated and helps to stop concealer settling into fine lines. I would definitely recommend this product to others.
