I bought this lovely Rosebud Strawberry Lip Balm when I was on a day trip with my friends and we stopped off at a craft centre on the way back which had a stand with lip glosses and balms and such like. The vintage look of this tin took my eye straight away and I always like to keep one in my handbag, and as I hadn't got one with me at that time I thought I would give myself a treat. It was £4.00 which is definitely more than I would usually pay but I have used Rosebud products previously and know they are lovely, and I really just wanted to treat myself at the end of a smashing day out.
The ingredients are natural white beeswax, petrolatum, vilvanolin and a trade secret blend of strawberry flavours and it is 22g in size. You just twist the lid to open the tin and the balm itself is a lovely pretty pink colour and it feels soft and smooth to the touch. As soon as you open the tin you can smell a delicious strawberry smell and it tastes just as good when you apply it to your lips.
To use I will scrape a finger across the balm and then gently apply it to my lips, and straight away my lips feel moisturised and softer. I regularly use lip balm even when my lips are in good condition but if this is the case they just feel even softer, and if my lips are feeling a bit dry or chapped this balm seems to soothe them and leaves a light coating which helps to protect them. You can see a very slight sheen to your lips but it isn't that noticeable so if you don't want to look as if you are wearing lipstick then this one is ideal for you.
This balm is widely available from chemists and online and the prices range from £2.95 to £7.25 and it also comes in other flavours such as minted rose, brambleberry rose and menthol and eucalyptus and these also come in fabulous vintage looking tins which would look great on any dressing table or bathroom shelf.
You can get much cheaper lip balms but you can really tell that this one is a high quality product from the tin to the balm itself and I would definitely buy it again. If you have several lip balms on the go as I do then I would expect this tin to last for up to twelve months even using it regularly as you really only need one application for each use which is plenty to make your lips feel pampered and cared for.
***Why I want the product?***
If my previous reviews are anything to go by I love my lip products, whether it will be gloss, lipstick and most importantly lip balms/treatments, especially for this time of year.
In my last review I stated my love for Rosebud Salve In a Tube and while this is true I had to delve more into the world of the wonderful Rosebud Perfume Co and sample the other lip balms on offer.
***About the company***
Rosebud Perfume Co was founded in 1895 by George F. Smith in a small drug store, that quickly founded them expanding into a large building that was formally known as a hotel. Rosebud Perfume Co now ship to almost every country in the world.
Rosebud Perfume Co are known for the lip balms/salves in metal retro tins and Smith's Rosebud Salve is the best selling product to date but in 2011 they launched their new product Salve in a Tube.
***About the product***
With Rosebud Lip Balms there is six to choose from, whether you prefer the original Smith's Rosebud Salve, all the way to Menthol and Eucalyptus Balm, to Strawberry and other mouth watering flavours.
This world famous lip balm has been discovered by Hollywood stars and makeup artists and is their best kept secret. Rosebud Lip Balm is still a favourite to aid chapped lips and dry skin.
***What ingredients are in Smith's Rosebud Salve?***
Petrolatum, Vilvanolin, Natural White Beeswax, A trade secret blend of Strawberry flavour, Natural and Artificial dyes.
Lip balms that contain any type of petrolatum I hate, I always find this ingredient is a barrier on the lips and does no moisturising what so ever, in fact I find this ingredient to dry my lips the more I apply. However, I knew this lip salve would be different due to all the five star rave reviews, celebrities and makeup artists love it.
Rosebud Perfume Co are known for their vintage packaging, their tined balms are always in retro, vintage styles that grab the buyers attention. It makes you feel special and makes you feel like a lady.
I expected Strawberry Lip Balm to come in the same Vaseline size tin, the product is larger than expected with a staggering 22g of product. The metal tin is bright, shiny and gold with a vintage design on the front that says Rosebud Strawberry Lip Balm and Moisturiser in red and green quirky writing. To the side of Lip Balm sees a little Strawberry. Underneath the top of the tin sees a lovely elegant design of strawberries going all around the tin for a retro/vintage feel.
Underneath the tin tells you the ingredients and with a shelf life of 30 months.
***What does the product smell and look like?***
Opening the metal tin, which is easier than getting inside a Vaseline tin. Straight away I am greeted with the most beautiful strawberry smell I have ever come across. It is a powerful scent that is sweet, yet light without the sickly feeling you can get with artificial dyes. It is one of those smells even if I am not applying the balm I could sniff the product all day and could stop any sweet craving in its track.
The product itself is a lovely candy floss pink colour that sets the scent and packaging off beautifully.
***Applying the product, and how it feels***
As this product does come in a tin this means the product is formulated in a solid form and needs more pressure to help get a nice amount of product out.
Applying the balm to my naked lips I am greeted with the softest and comforting feeling that really does glide on like a dream with immediate relief when applied. As soon as the solid product touches my lips it melts in the most luxurious way and all from a lip balm. Do not expect high gloss unlike Rosebud Salve in a Tube but you will experience minimal shine that is not sickly, greasy or gloppy in anyway. But like all lip products the more you apply the more the gloss will be more apparent.
Although the product tint is a candy floss colour I have not noticed any difference in colour in my lips. In fact it applied more of a clear gloss.
Only a tiny amount is necessary for it to glide over your entire lips.
Like all lip balms and treatments I have find the product to transfer, but surprising there is always some product on my lips. I find even though the balm may have dimished a little the product is still there moisturising away until I need a little more and re-apply.
I love to apply a thicker amount before bed so the product can work uninterrupted for hours on end. I wake with soft, beautiful lips that are relieved of any dry, chapped or sore skin.
I have also mixed this balm with lipstick for extra shine and moisture. .
***Price and availability***
I purchased this product from amazon.co.uk for £5.75.
***What I think about it/do I like it?***
Although the price may be expensive for some this really is a brilliant product, it really keeps my lips soft and moisturised for hours and feels a luxury to apply. It softens my lips that well that actually look plumper, which is a first.
I have had my tin for over a month and with regular use everyday it does not seem like I have made a dent in the product there is that much.
In all a fantastic product from Rosebud Perfume Co, and a product I will no doubt re-purchase, eventually.
