As I wear make up most days and tend to favour 50's and 60's styles of eye make up with plenty of black eye liner and mascara, black mascara is a bit of a must have for me. I tend to use a cheaper mascara and I've not been loyal to any particular brand as I have to stick to a budget but I was really looking forward to having something more expensive to try out after getting this Soap & Glory Thick and Fast mascara as part of a set.
This mascara comes in quite a pretty little cardboard package which features a pink background with black writing, fitting in quite well with other Soap & Glory products. On one side of the box there is a rather eye catching black and white close up of a pair of eyes.
Inside the box the mascara comes in a black tube with pink writing. The product name is nice and big so you can easily see from a distance what it is.
***Price and availability***
Soap & Glory products are available in Boots or Harvey Nicholls stores and can also be found listed on sites such as Amazon or Ebay.
Thick & Fast mascara will set you back £10 which isn't a bad price for a good mascara from a well known brand. I can find cheap mascaras for £2 and upwards, but there is quite a difference in quality and particularly lasting power.
If you buy this product in Boots, which is where I buy my Soap & Glory products then you can gain 40 advantage card points (worth 40p) when buying this mascara.
***Using the mascara***
The wand on this mascara is a normal, basic wand which I like. Having tried mascaras which have used different designs for their wand brushes I always decide I prefer the standard type as I find it much easier to use.
The mascara is easy to apply, it glides on and I don't find that it clumps at all. However, method of application may vary from person to person and could give different results. Personally I blink slowly onto the brush while wiggling it side to side through my lashes and this gives fantastic results when using this mascara.
For a normal day time look then a quick swipe of this mascara is enough, but for a more dramatic evening look then several coats of mascara might be needed. I do find that other mascaras tend to dry in such a way that adding a second coat is almost impossible without making a clumpy mess, but I do not have that problem with this product. A second or third coat glides on as easily as the first.
Once applied by lashes look long, thick, glossy and pretty; which is exactly what I want from a mascara.
Although it's not marketed as being a waterproof mascara, the staying power of this mascara is fantastic. Whatever the weather, whatever I'm doing and even on days when I have fallen asleep still in my make up I have not had any experience of panda eyes. I find it does not go dry or flaky through the day as some mascaras can do.
Removing the make up is easy with a make up remover or using baby wipes. I do find that I tend to have to go over it twice, maybe three times sometimes before it's fully removed but I do not need to rub or scrub at all.
I really like this mascara and would recommend it to others. I in fact like it enough that I think I'll be cutting back on something else in future to allow myself enough money in my budget to continue using this rather than returning to a cheaper mascara.
I received the Thick and Fast mascara as part of a large Soap and Glory set I got for Christmas. I am a big fan of Soap and Glory, I think their products smell amazing and I love the whole theme they have going on but I have to say I wasn't impressed in the slightest by this mascara. It is difficult to find the perfect mascara for me as I do have very long thick eyelashes (spiderlashes, I know I'm lucky) but this mascara didn't really do anything to them. The brush was pretty rubbish my eyelashes just stuck out and didn't look nice and it took ages to dry so every time I blinked I got panda eyes from the mascara sticking on my eyelid. After about half an hour it didn't even look like I had put any mascara on and if I reapplied I'd just get large clumps of mascara stuck in my eyelashes. I'm glad I didn't waste my money purchasing the product.
For Christmas I received the Yule Monty gift set which was actually a star buy in Boots for £27 (down from £60) and contains 9 full sized items from their range, one of which is this mascara.
The thick and fast super volume mascara is part of the Soap & Glory make up range designed to boost the volume of your natural lashes and keep them fuller for longer. This is achieved by using false lash fillers to give the appearance of darker and thicker lashes which shine amplifiers to give the boost.
The mascara comes in quite a simple black cylinder and has the traditional Soap & Glory pink writing on the main part of the barrel. Company information can be found on the lid label along with the 6M symbol (must be discarded after 6 months of opening due to hygiene reasons). If you peel the label back there is also the ingredients list which is vital if you have any allergies. The top of the lid has a black and pink Soap & Glory logo.
I got this mascara as part of a 9 piece set which was £27 so would have worked out as £3 which is an absolute bargain for this brand (putting the price in the range of Collection 2000 etc.) Soap & Glory retail in Boots officially but also can be seen on Ebay, but singularly in Boots the 10ml tube is £10 or 1000 points.
Now I don't usually use mascara very often as I work as a nurse and make up is not encouraged, also when working 12 hour shifts I find I barely have time for my hair. However, as this is within my kit I thought I would give it a go. After seeing good reviews I was hoping this won't be like my usual mascaras I have tried making my lashes look clumpy and also flakey and make my face look odd with mascara dust under my eyes.
The applicator looks like a bullet in shape and is a medium size with not too much length which can catch in the corner of the eye. The brush has thick bristles which have nice spacing similar to a pipe cleaner or bottle brush line up. As the bristles are not tightly compacted I find they fit between my natural eyelashes and coat them more evenly rather than clumping them together in a big block as some other brands have done. The mascara is quite black so I go light with just one or two sweeps as I have generally light blond lashes and eyebrows but this is just enough to highlight how long my lashes actually are.
One or two coats does give a little boost to the volume but not too much which I am comfortable with, however, I did test extra applications and at about 4 my lashes look heavy and false which is just not for me and my skin tone. Sometimes my eyes are easily irritated but I have not found that this makes my eyes water, also when I accidently touch my eyes it doesn't spread all over my eyes and make me look like a panda.
To remove the mascara I use a make up remover wipe as I have plenty of these in the house. The mascara comes off quite easily but obviously needs a few wipes to remove it all from the lashes.
I was unsure at first as I love Soap & Glory for the wash products and creams but after using this mascara I think I am becoming a make up convert. However, due to the singular £10 price tag I think I may be put off from buying it myself.
(Reviews may be seen on Ciao under name FrostBit)
As part of my bumper pack of goodies from Soap & Glory, I also received the Thick & Fast mascara. I love their body products but I have only really dabbled in their make up and this is not a product that I would have ever bought for myself. Nevertheless, having received it as a present, I thought I'd give it a go.
What does it do?
The product has been designed in order to make your lashes look both fuller and longer, to frame the eyes nicely and make them more eye catching. It promises to volumise and lengthen the lashes, while giving them a healthy shine. It claims that you won't find it flaking within 24 hours and it won't clump your lashes together. The product has been created using a natural wax.
Packaging and Price
The product comes contained within a chunky black tube which has bright pink writing down the side. The lid is a screw top and the wand to the product can be found attached to the lid. The brush inside is very chunky and is formed with spiral bristles which get thinner towards the end. The product will cost you around £10 and it can be bought from Boots or from other online websites.
Application and Performance
The product lid needs to be twisted a few times before it is open and the wand gives a bit of resistance as you pull it out. I assume this means that it is doing a good job of ensuring that not too much of the mascara goes onto the brush. It has a strong aroma which isn't altogether pleasant but which dies down once it has been applied.
The brush is much bigger than I've used before but it doesn't hinder the application. It is easy to apply this mascara quicker as it touches nearly all of the lashes at the same time. You can touch up the smaller inner and outer lashes using the thin end of the wand. The colour of the mascara is black but not deep black so it still looks quite natural. The wand does a good job of coating each lash and it doesn't cause them to clump together which is good in my eyes.
The mascara does make my lashes look thicker and a bit longer compared to my natural lashes but even with two coats it didn't match the standards of my other mascaras and it didn't make a huge difference. It would be nice for work when you don't want to look over the top but I wouldn't use this for an evening out with friends. It also feels a little sticky and heavy on the eye which I don't usually feel with mascara either. Despite this the lashes still feel quite soft to the touch.
The product has good staying power and it is still going strong at the end of the day. It does flake a little during the day and does sometimes leave little black marks beneath my eyes which I really don't want in a mascara. It isn't waterproof but neither does it claim to be. The mascara didn't irritate my eyes and I was fine even when wearing contact lenses. The product was easily removed using my usual make up remover.
All in all, this is an average mascara in my eyes. It does make my lashes look thicker and longer but not dramatically enough for an evening out. The colour also isn't dark enough for this either but it is a good mascara for subtle day wear. It is easy to remove and to apply, and it is gentle on the eyes. The product stayed put for the duration on the day although there was a slight bit of smudging. I will continue to use this in the day as it was free but I wouldn't spend £10 to buy my own.

~Thick and Fast Mascara~
Thick and Fast Super Volume Mascara is part of the Soap and Glory cosmetics range. It is designed to keep your lashes looking fuller and longer. This mascara contains false lash fillers, a NOFLAKE24 technology and shine amplifiers.
This mascara is presented in a thick, black tube with pink writing. As with most mascaras, this mascara has a recommended shelf life of 6 months from first opening. It is available in one shade : superjet black and the ingredients list can be found by visiting www.soapandglory.com. Please check this if you have any cosmetic allergies.
~Price and Availability~
This mascara can be purchased from Boots and www.boots.com. Expect to pay £10.00 for a 10ml tube.
I received my full size mascara as part of the Girl-O-Whirl gift set which I originally reviewed as a complete set. I am always looking to try new mascaras to see if I can find one which is perfect for needs. I have used this mascara on numerous occasions since I received it as part of my gift set and quite like it.
The applicator is a good length and the brush on the end features lots of thick bristles. I use mascara on a regular basis as I like to make the most of my eyes. It is suitable for day time and night time use in my opinion as it can be layered on to my eyelashes to create different looks. The mascara wand sweeps up my eyelashes with ease and the colour transfers smoothly. One coat gives my lashes a nice colour and makes them look lovely and full with no clumps in sight. Each additional coat increases the depth of the colour and the thickness of my lashes. The black colour is perfect for me and my lashes look good whilst wearing this mascara but I don't notice any shine - just bold, black colour.
I apply two coats if I am going out in the evening and find that two coats is sufficient. Additional coats give a false lash look which I am personally not a fan of. You can layer to suit yourself. The mascara doesn't feel heavy on my lashes and doesn't flake or smudge easily. It lasts well even if my eyes are watery and I find that the black shade looks really good on my lashes and lasts for around 10 hours without needing topped up. The mascara is of a high quality and hasn't irritated my sensitive eyes. It can be removed with some make-up remover.
This is a good mascara that can be worked with to create different looks with compromising the overall finish. I find it easy to use and have been pleased with how it performs and its longevity on my lashes. My lashes look good and I find that this mascara fits my needs but isn't the best I have ever used. My tube has been regularly used and there is still plenty left. At £10.00, this isn't a bad price to pay for a good quality mascara in my opinion and it is also worth noting that Soap and Glory products are regularly on a 3 for 2 offer in Boots so you may get a bargain.
Overall I would recommend this mascara.
Although I love Soap & Glory for their hair and body range of products I have never really bought any make up from the range, sticking to Max Factor for my staples as I know that although the range isn't cheap as such it is usually great quality and does the job that I want it to.
However before Christmas I was in need of a mascara because I was running low on usual one and so when I was Boots buying gifts for other people I had a little spend up on myself (in for a penny, in for a pound I thought!) and I ended up treating myself to this. I shouldn't have bothered mind you because for Christmas I got the huge Soap & Glory gift set and got another one of these in it.....but hey never mind!
This comes in a black plastic tube with a twist on/off lid to one end of it that houses the 'wand' that has the applicator brush on the end of it. Down the side of it and in pink writing we are told that it is Thick & Fast Super Volume Mascara, and on the lid Soap & Glory is stamped on there and there is a peel off label on there to telling us that from once opened to use it up within 6 months and that it is 10ml in size (large tube). Its nice robust packaging and very good quality. I hate sometimes buying a product that initially looks nice for the writing to start coming off and this doesn't thankfully!
Well first off I feel that I must point out that as far as I am aware this is only available in one colour option which is black which is of course what I am reviewing.
The brush is large and slightly tapered to one end of it and with lines going across it and plenty of bristles. I was initially worried about using such a large brush on my spindly and sparse lashes but I'm fine with it, its good quality and the mascara is a nice smooth and not drippy liquid to apply.
This coats my lashes beautifully. It makes my lashes appear longer and more defined and they certainly feel more fluttery and the colour is lovely and rich with a hint of a gloss to it though why its called 'Thick' I'm not sure. The consistency isn't thick and although this is meant to contain 'fillers' which tells me really that this is meant to thicken up eyelashes I don't really agree that it does but like I say the length of them certainly appears longer to me!
This stays put on my lases till I want to remove it, I don't have issues with it smudging but then I try not to give my eyes a good old rub when I have this type of product on my eyes anyway and it isn't waterproof....so no crying your eyes out with it on ladies!
This mascara doesn't feel heavy on my eyes at all but then I only apply it once to my natural lashes anyway as that's all that I feel is required, it doesn't agitate my very sensitive eyes either and when it comes to removing it I simply use my usual make up removing routine.
Al In All:
I really like this mascara. It is quick, simple and effective to use, I'm only slightly disappointed that my lashes don't look a bit more full however it does define them, it doesn't go clumpy and is simple to use so all in all I think that this is very worth the £10.00 I paid for it!
Available from Boots, it is currently in some of the Soap & Glory gift sets on sale but if you want this at a bargain price try online as I have seen this sold for as little at a fiver on sites such as Ebay!
This review is also posted on Ciao under this same username.
I was looking for a mascara that worked well but without the hefty price tag of my usual Clinique mascara. After a bit of research I decided to try the Soap and Glory Mascara along with a few of their other products as they were on a 3 for 2 deal in Boots.
First impressions were good, the packagings cute and it doesn't look to cheap or tacky. Using the mascara was a different story. Firstly the brush is way to big. Its virtually impossible to apply without getting it all over you eyes. In the end I had to dip my old Clinique mascara brush into the bottle to apply it properly. The mascara goes on very thick and with just one coat it clumps and goes spidery. It dries quickly but feels very clumpy and after around an hour it starts to flake off onto your cheeks.
Trying to remove this stuff properly is almost impossible too even with my Lancome bi-facial which is practically industrial strength I couldn't get this mascara off properly and woke up the next day with panda eyes! (Much to my other halfs amusement)
I have tried cheaper brands of mascara that have been fine. The only mascara I have tried that was worse than this stuff was a fake one I was sold from China! That literally made my eyelashes fall out.
I haven't really used many Soap and Glory products but I know lots of people who rave about them so I asked my mum to buy me some for Christmas. She brought me the biggest set which contains about 10 items and one the product in there was this mascara.
As I received as part of a set, I wasn't sure of the retail but a quick check online shows me that it currently retails for £10 for a standard 10ml tube. Soap & Glory is available from Boots, both online and instore, quite often, they have promotional offers such as 3 for 2 or buy 1 get one ½ price.
The mascara comes in a black shiny tube which measures around 6inches long, to the front of the tube is the product name and description in bold pink writing. The tube has a screw top lid which is really easy to remove; the mascara wand is quite thick especially at the head which is full of a mixture of different length bristles. I would describe the wand as standard looking (i.e. not curved or funny looking like some other newer brands. Because the wand and bristles are chunky, I was a little worried at first that I wouldn't be able to give all my lashes a good coating but because the bristles are different lengths, I didn't experience any issues and actually found it quite easy to manipulate the brush into the corners of my eyes.
My lashes are already quite long but I still like to wear black mascara on a daily basis go define my eyes a little more, I only have to apply one coat of this mascara to tell a difference which is great as I don't normally have much time to myself in a morning! I have found that the mascara layers up really well to, giving that more dramatic effect without clumping or looking too fake. Even after a couple of coats of mascara, my lashes still feel quite soft and as light as a feather!
Another good point about this mascara is that it stays in place, by the end of the day, I don't have panda eyes nor does is start to flake away throughout the day. The mascara also removes really easily with my eye make up remover.
Overall, I quite like this mascara and would re-purchase therefore it gets 5 out of 5 stars.
Thanks for reading.
I have only recently realised that Soap and Glory have started making cosmetics. I am a massive fan of their body washes, butters and hand/foot creams, and when I came across this mascara I could not wait to give it a go. The thing that attracts me most about Soap an Glory is their pink packaging, which is really girlie and fun, and the branding, which is incredibly witty and amusing.
**** What it it? ****
This is a Mascara made by Soap and Glory which claims to give a 'false lash' effect. It comes in a black tube with a black screw top lid, connected to the lid is the applicator brush (which is quite standard for mascara's). On the tube there is pink writing which says 'Thick & Fast' and 'Super Volume Mascara * Mascara Super Volume'. On the top of the tube is the pink Soap and Glory logo in pink.
On the Soap and Glory website (www.soapandglory.com) it says this mascara features, ' Superfill False Lash Filler, Shine Amplifiers, NoFlake24 technology and super fine no clumps natural was film formers'.
**** Price and Availability ****
I got mine as part of a goody bag for Christmas, but you can purchase this mascara from Boots for £10.00, for a 10ml tube. Boots also sometimes have this on a 3 for 2 offer, so it is worth keeping an eye out for that. The colour of this mascara is called Superjet Black and it really is a deep, rich, pigmented black.
**** Application ****
Like with all mascara's all you need to do it remove the applicator brush from the tube and apply to your lashes. The brush is thick and bristles are spaced quite far apart. The brush holds a lot of mascara and for a day time look I only need to apply one coat to my lashes. If I am going out and want my lashes to look thick and bold then I apply a few more layers. The consistency of this mascara is quite thick and creamy, which glides on with ease. I remove the mascara with a wipe and it comes off very easily.
**** My thoughts ****
I always find it quite tricky to apply mascara to my bottom lashes and they normally clump together, but with this mascara I find that it separates my lashes and makes them look fuller and longer. This mascara leaves my lashes clump free even after I have applied a couple of layers and it doesn't flake off (in the past I have used mascara's and after a day of wearing it, I have found little flakes of mascara under my eyes). The colour of this mascara is Superjet black, and it really is jet black. Sometimes you need to apply a couple of layers with other mascara's to build up the colour, but with this mascara as soon as you have applied one coat the richness of the black can be seen.
I am always looking for a mascara that makes my lashes look somewhat like fake eyelashes, this is because I am utterly hopeless at applying fake lashes. I have found a lot of mascaras which claim that their mascara give the false lash effect, but very seldom do they actually live up to this claim. However, I am very pleased to say this is one of the closest to fake lash effect mascara's I have found.
After using a mascara I would normally use an eyelash curler, but with this mascara there is no need, as it leaves my lashes looking curled.
This is not a waterproof mascara but I have worn it in hot climates, and also running and it does not run, which is great as I am not to keen on the panda look.
**** Overall ****
I would definitely recommend this mascara, especially is you are as useless as me at applying fake lashes. £10.00 for a mascara is probably this most I would want to pay for a mascara, but I do think this mascara is worth every penny. I am giving this mascara 5 our of 5.
Thank you for taking the time to read/rate my review :D
This was one of the products that was in the big Soap and Glory gift set I received for Christmas.
Mascara is an essential item for me and I wear it daily. I always use an eye lash curler too as I feel it opens up my eyes more and the mascara is then more effective. When trying this mascara I used it without curling my eye lashes first and then on a separate occasion when I had curled them, just to see what the differences were.
This is describes as a false lash effect product, which claims to create longer, fuller and more fabulous lashes. As I like the look of longer eye lashes I was excited to see this mascara and hoped I had found 'the one'!
-- Packaging --
The mascara tube is black shiny plastic with 'Thick & Fast Super Volume Mascara * Mascara Super Volume' on it in hot pink lettering. Then there is a small label stuck on it the screw top lid with very small pink writing saying where the product was made and which brand it was for. At the end of the tube is the Soap & Glory logo printed on.
-- The all important 'wand' --
The tube is easy to unscrew, the wand itself is quite chunky compared to other mascara brands i have tried. The 'bristles' look thick, although on closer inspection it is in fact tiny bristles with alot of the mascara on, which makes it look clumped together.
When I first tried it with out curling my eyelashes I found it uninspiring, and found the wand too chunky to get at the very small lashes (which I can do with a thinner mascara wand) and it just seemed like an ordinary cheap black mascara.
HOWEVER, when I had curled my eye lashes first it really made a difference. It was easier to wiggle the big wand across all of the lashes, even the tiny ones. The black mascara went on easily and although the brush 'looked' clumpy, I don't get any clumps of mascara on individual lashes. I felt my eye lashes did look fuller, long and a lovely black colour. It evenly coated the lashes too.
It lasts well all day and it didn't flake off at all or rub off or create the unattractive 'panda' look as some cheaper mascaras do. At the end of the day I removed it with cleanser and a cotton wool pad.

-- Overall Summary --
I love the colour of this 'superjet black, which makes my blue eyes stand out. I would recommend it but only after having curled your eye lashes (unless you are blessed with naturally curled long eye lashes!), I found it made the mascara easier to apply and the results were more striking. I would buy this again.
Thanks for reading.
I'm always on the hunt for the miracle mascara that will give me thicker, longer, curled lashes and had high expectations of this one, especially as I love the Soap and Glory range of products. The packaging is great in funky black and pink and the large tapered brush is great for catching all of your lashes. However, I did find the mascara itself a little dry in the tube (not sure if it was old stock or that's just the way it is). The application is quite easy with the tapered brush and you can get the very corners with the thin end. I didn't have any issues with flaking or smudging and two coats on the top and one on the bottom was enough to achieve a good day time effect but I would need something more dramatic for evenings. It seemed to stay where it was put all day and it was removed without problems using a cream cleanser and water. I bought this as part of a gift set so it hardly cost anything. I'm not sure I would pay full price for it as other, cheaper products give as good or better results.
I really like make-up recently, and I'm always open for trying something new, with Soap and Glory I have always been a fan of the bath stuff - never realised that I would like most of their cosmetic range too. I'd only ever tried their lip balms in the past, and when it came round to looking for a new mascara a few months ago I thought I'd give a Soap and Glory item a go, having been through a lot of the more mainstream branded mascaras I wanted to try something different. Boots, had this so I guessed that I'd give it a go especially since I had a money off coupon - always try something once!
~*~ Soap and Glory ~*~
Soap and Glory is a brand of baby pink colour schemed items that are available in Boots, John Lewis and online. They cover all aspects of washing and keeping your body looking fabulous, from shower gels, to moisturisers and anti-cellulite creams, they have everything you could ever want to keep your skin looking good. My favourites are their amazing hand cream, and I have to say since they introduced cosmetics and facial skin care to their ranges they have really gone up in my estimation and I'm really happy to buy from them even despite the price compared to the price of the normal make-up I buy.
~*~ Thick and Fast ~*~
The main thing I love about this mascara is the size of the brush, I'm a big fan of having large chunky brushes on my mascaras this one is brilliant and very thick. It just means I can put it at the base of my lashes and I can get a good amount on my lashes before I start concentrating on the ends of my lashes. This mascara is meant to be one that provides false looking eye lashes, though until I looked on the website for writing this review I didn't actually know that - it claims to give you longer, fuller lashes, with that fake lash effect. You might think then that this is a big clumpy tube of mascara, but that couldn't be further from the truth actually - the tube is actually fairly slim, in black with the pink writing down the side explaining what the mascara is. The brush inside is not what you would expect compared to the size of the tube - but I really like it, it doesn't get all clogged up in mascara either so when it is pulled out of the tube it gets a good release, without spending lots of extra money on the technology that claims to stop excess mascara on the brush. Admittedly this mascara isn't cheap at £10 a tube, but it is worth every penny in my eyes.
Application is really simple too, pull your brush out of the tube, and wipe away any excess off the end of the brush if you feel the need to - and simply go from the base of your lashes to the top and pull the colour through the lashes. This mascara comes in Superjet black, I'm not sure what kind of extreme black this is but it does seem to be a little bit darker than some other mascaras I've used in the past. However to me, black is black! For a day time use, I tend to just brush it twice and carry on with my make-up, because even though the brush doesn't look like it's not much on it actually gives you a really good covering really quickly so I don't complain too much about the mascara in that sense. During the day I don't feel worried about little bits flaking off because it has NOFLAKE24 technology which means you won't get flakes under your eyes, which is really good for me, because it happens quite often with cheaper mascaras that I get a bit of panda eye! On a night time usage, I'd apply quite a lot more to get the dramatic lash effect that I want - it's easier to apply one level at a time that way you can decide what is appropriate for the time you're using it, and what level of fake lashes you feel like you want. They don't look too fake unless you're putting 5 or 6 coats of mascara on, which I do at night and it does look like I've got false lashes on because it makes them look a lot longer and thicker than my normal lashes do.
On a night out, it lasts well, I don't find that I reapply during the night, I'd find I spend more time reapplying eyeliner instead of mascara. So for the money it's well worth it! Getting it off is simple too, I use an eye make-up remover to remove it, and it comes off really quickly and easily with little to no residue, it doesn't hurt my eyes, make them red or sting if I get water in my eyes. It's great mascara from a great company! My tube has lasted around 3 months now, and I think I've still got a fair amout left, but I will be buying a new one soon, just because I don't want to run out of it especially now I've found a mascara that I love! Finally!
~*~ Price and Availability ~*~
£10 in Boots at the moment, but it is also available else where!
I'd not tried Soap & Glory make up before this product. I associate the brand more with bath and body care than with cosmetics, so was looking forward to trying this, though was a little sceptical. I received this mascara as part of a Soap & Glory set (RRP £60) but found it online at Boots for £10 (currently £7 in the sale if you're quick!).
APPEARANCE - TUBE & BRUSH
The mascara tube is black and features pink lettering. It's not my favourite colour combination ever (very teen orientated in my opinion), but works. The tube is very simple, though the font used creates a fun, youthful feel to the product - matching the teen-y colours.
The brush head is wide at the base, gradually working to a point at the end. At it's fullest, the brush is very nice and thick. This usually allows you to get thicker looking lashes as more product can be applied with one stroke. The tip is useful for getting harder to reach, short lashes (such as the corners).
EFFECT ON LASHES
The mascara coats lashes well. The consistency is quite thick, but not gloopy. I've only been using this mascara for a few days, but have found it to make my lashes look thick, lush and full. It has not started drying out (but shouldn't after a few days!), and the brush seems to hold a good amount - not too much, and definitely not too little.
This is definitely a mascara for impact and effect - if you're looking for something subtle, this is definitely not for you! Perfect for parties, or just for those of you who love defined eyes.
My mascara lasts all day - though is easily removed with a Simple make up wipe. There's a lot of product in each stroke, however, so you may get panda eyes as you remove it! I found there was a little 'flakiness' to the mascara and each night I had a few specks of dried mascara under my eyes - but nothing that other mascara hasn't given me before.
* Youthful, fun appearance
* Creates thick, lush, full-looking lashes
* Not good for a natural-looking effect
I've tried better (Max Factor False Lash Effect), but I've certainly tried worse!
It was my birthday in September and one of my friends gave me this as one of my gifts from her.
I am a big fan of Soap and Glory so was pretty excited to try it out. I'd been wanting to try it for a while, but already had so many mascaras that I couldn't really justify buying a new one! The mascara retails at £10.00 which is a great price in my opinion because it's good quality, effective and as I only need 1-2 coats for everyday wear, I know that the 10ml tube will last for a while so it's definitely good value for money.
I didn't buy this as I recieved it as a gift, but after having a quick look on the internet I can see that it is available from Boots, eBay and Amazon and Boots are currently running a 3 for 2 promotion on Soap and Glory products. The mascara is available in just one colour - superjet black, which is a rich shade of black. I love how intense the colour is and find that it suits me well - I have dark brown hair and dark lashes, but I think that the lack of colour options may put lighter haired people off - I could be wrong though!
The mascara comes in an eye catching rectangular cardboard box which has a black and white picture of a woman's eyes with huge, fluttery lashes. The rest of the box is bright pink and you can definitely tell from looking at the box that it's a soap and glory product from the design and colourscheme. Information such as application advise, warnings, ingredients and a product description are written on the box and there's a picture of the mascara brush, which is a good length with short, well spaced apart bristles.
The mascara tube is black and glossy with the product name written in large, pink writing - it stands out from all of my other mascaras due to this and I really like the packaging - girly but sleek, pretty expensive looking and good quality. The tube's lid unscrews easily and it has the mascara wand and brush attatched. As I said above, the brush is a good length and provides excellent coverage, getting right into the corner lashes without me having to change the angle that I'm holding it at too much. The formula is nice and wet which I prefer to dry mascaras, and it dries almost instantly so there's no smudging or running.
The formula is lightweight and doesn't look or feel heavy on my lashes. I find one coat is enough to make a noticeable difference to the colour intensity and length of my lashes while still looking subtle and reasonably natural. The brush lifts my lashes, making my eyes appear wider and more awake, as well. The mascara doesn't add much thickness with just one coat but as the mascara doesn't clump easily I can build it up. After around four coats my lashes do start to look much more dramatic - perfect for a night out! I usually just wear one to two coats during the day and it lasts extremely well - from around 8am-7pm ish and there's no flaking. It is easy to remove.
Overall this is an excellent mascara. It lasts well, looks great and is affordable, too. I give it a well deserved five out of five stars.
I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of Soap & Glory, I have a few products in the bathroom but there are other brands I'd rather use - for this reason, the fact Soap & Glory now make cosmetics had completely passed me by as I don't tend to pay much attention to the ever-growing S&G shelves in Boots. I received my first Thick and Fast Super Volume Mascara as a magazine freebie but have since bought it again as it's a fabulous mascara which suits my lashes perfectly.
OK, so it might not provide the intense volume I was expecting based on the name of the product but apart from that it's honestly the perfect mascara. To be honest I'm not looking for huge super-built lashes during the day anyway as I'm not one of those women who feels the need to look like a glamour model while on the school run or picking a few bits up in Tesco, I do like dark lashes at all times but am not particularly bothered about volume or length for day-to-day wear.
Application of Thick and Fast takes some getting used to because the brush is much fatter than other mascaras I've used; it collects a lot of mascara with each dip into the barrel, which in my opinion is great as I like to get my mascara applied as quickly as possible, but if you're a mascara purist you may find it collects a bit too much colour with each layer being visibly thicker than when I use another product. Fantastic when you have four kids battling for bathroom time in the morning, not so great if you like your mascara spotless with very little effort! Don't get me wrong, it is entirely possible to get the spotless look even with such a big brush but be aware you may need to spend a little extra time on your eyes until you get the knack. Despite the size of the brush, I find the bristles are nicely spaced to allow it to curl and colour my lashes with the lightest of application - I tend to apply two coats of this mascara, although on the very odd occasion where I wear this to go out I'll use three for a dustier smokey look.
The mascara applies smoothly with no clumping or causing my lashes to stick together, the only application issue I have with this particular mascara is the fact that I'm still not completely used to the enlarged brush so I'll often accidentally touch my cheek with it and end up spending ages with a cotton bud attempting to remove the black smudge without disturbing the rest of my make-up! Annoying, but hardly something that leaves me feeling suicidal. At first I struggled to apply my mascara to my bottom lashes due to the fact that they're naturally so much thinner and shorter than my upper lashes, again this is simply a case of getting used to the brush so after persevering for a few applications I found it became second nature to use a slightly lighter hand at this point of application.
It dries surprisingly quickly considering how much mascara is deposited on my lashes at once so I'm able to apply the second coat pretty much immediately; this mascara never causes my lashes to stick together no matter how many coats I use, something which surprised me actually as it has quite a 'sticky' feel when I touch the colour with my fingers. When dried the finish is very matte as there's barely any shine to this mascara at all, this could be countered by finishing your eyes off with a coat of clear mascara I suppose but this isn't something I bother with personally as I like the dusky matte look (and anyway, I seriously don't have time in the mornings to be faffing with more products than is absolutely necessary!).
Checking my eyes at the end of the day, I'm always impressed by how little colour I've lost when using this mascara - actually, scrap that, I'm always impressed by the fact that I've lost no colour at all when using this mascara! It's excellent! There's no smudging around my eyes even after twelve hours of wear, my lashes haven't drooped at all (something which can happen throughout the day when using heavy mascara such as this) and the colour itself looks as fresh as when it was first applied. Impressive, eh? It's not waterproof so if you're caught in the rain or have a crying session whilst wearing it you'll find yourself covered in black sooty rivulets, but this is true of any non-waterproof mascara so I really can't mark this one down for it.
Removal is a breeze, I use a single cotton wool pad with a spot of baby lotion on it for each eye and that's really all that's needed. Wiping away the mascara from the inner to the outer corner of my eyes works best for me, but obviously this is a completely personal preference! I always remove my mascara (if nothing else!) before I go to bed simply because I wear contact lenses on a daily basis so need to get rid of it before removing those, with this one it doesn't matter how little time I spend on removal as I can always be confident that I've got every last scrap. When I wake up the following morning there's no telltale smudges under my eyes to indicate that I've missed any (unlike a Clinique mascara that I'm using at the moment - I swear it must hide somewhere as despite ultra clean cotton wool pads after cleansing there's still a huge amount deposited under my eyes when I wake up!).
I can't fault this mascara at all, I really can't. Admittedly if you're looking for super volumised lashes you might be disappointed with this aspect but personally I think the fact that it separates the individual lashes so well gives the impression of extra volume and length anyway. I'm impressed with the deep sooty black of my lashes after application, and also by the way the colour stays put for the entire day. As a contact lens wearer I'm happy to report there is absolutely no irritation to my eyes during application or wear, and while wearing it during a particularly irritating bout of hayfever in the summer I was also impressed by the fact that it didn't make my eyes any sorer than they already were.
I've since purchased this Thick and Fast Super Volume Mascara in Boots for £10, which I think is a reasonable price for such a great mascara - I'll definitely buy it again when this one needs replacing and recommend to all.
