Advantages: creamy texture, colours work well together, defines lips and makes them look fuller

Disadvantages: only lasts a very short while!

I am a big fan of Soap & Glory products and will openly admit that I have not always been happy with every one of their products, yet it remains a brand that I shall return to again and again. Just recently, they have expanded their range in my local Boots to include make up products and one of their first products I tried was this Marvelips lip pencil- though this was also purchasable before the make up line was released!

~~What is it?~~
This is Soap & Glory's answer to a lip pencil. It it a rather large, double ended lip pencil which reminds me somewhat of a childs crayon. It has one end which is the actual lip pencil for lining the lips and the other is for highlighting the lips in the middle, or around the edge in order to make them look more 'full'.

It claims to have an instant effect for 'super sizing' the lips, while keeping them soft and the feel of them being hydrated at the same time.

~~Price and Availability~~
This product costs £8.00, which is slighty more than I would normally spend on a lip liner, however it is a double ended one and I guess you are paying somewhat for the retro style packaging and the brand. Nonetheless, due to it being a Soap & Glory product it is often on offer for 3 for 2, making it a littler cheaper.

It is purchasable in Boots and their online store. Soap & Glory products are fairly exclusive to Boots, however can also sometimes be found on the likes of ASOS, also eBay and Amazon. I have only ever seen this inone colour which is a reddy colour, however, on the Boots website they also have one called 'As Good as Nude' which may be a variation in colour.

It comes in the usual Retro packaging to be expected with Soap & Glory with pink being one of the main colours. It is in cardboard packaging and on the back their are some tips/ instructions on how to get the best out of the product.

~~Applying the product~~
To apply the product I started with the 'colour' end which was a dull reddy tone with some slight orange/ coral pigmentation to it. I lined the outside of my lips and was really pleasantly surprised at the texture of the lip pencil, due to the fact it didn't really feel like I was applying a lip pencil. It was incredibly creamy and seemed to glide seamlessly along my lip line, the texture was similar to a soft lipstick to that of a lip pencil.

I then began to apply the colour/ blend in the colour all over my lips and the lip pencil still felt just as moisturusing. I really liked the colour when I blended it in, rather than applying it as a block colour as this way I had a very soft looking, almost natural deep red on my lips, with an ever so slightly darker line around my lips.

The other end was a slightly glittery/ sparkly white/ cream colour which almost had an irridescent tone to it. I applied this to my inner lip (middle) in order to highlight them and make them look fuller here. To begin with I wasn't sure on what this colour would look like, though I was pleasantly surprised. It was nowhere near as 'white' as what it looked on the pencil and began to blend in with the red already applied. It had the same creamy/ moisturising texture as the other end of the pencil. I also applied this end on the outside of the lip line in order to make the lips look cleaner and again make them look fuller.

The thing I did find, was that when applying the red colour as a lip line, this did have to be sharperned in order to achieve a clean line around the lips. This is due to is being quite a chubby lip liner, that when the nib has worn down a bit you are left with a rather large, circular nib to line the lips with, which does not create a clean look and it quite hard to apply precisley.

~~Results~~
The results I was fairly happy with; I was happy due to the fact that it did give the appearance of fuller lips and was a lovely colour, however it did not seem to have any staying power and did feather fairly quickly.

I really loved the colour, it was a natural, deep red and was a colour that I think would suit almost every skin tone, whether you have pale or darker skin. The red lip line colour in contrast with the white colour really gave the appearance of fuller lips. The white-ish colour also had a slightly glossy sheen to it, which again added more depth to the middle of the lips, making them look fuller.

I think that in comparison to the average lip liner I have used, then this one definitley made my lips look much fuller than wearing them and did it in a natural way. My lips also felt really soft and moisturised whilst wearing this lip liner due to the creamy consistency of it.

The only thing that I really did not like about this lip liner is that the staying power was incredibly poor. It seemed to only last an hour before it began to fade and the actual line that lined my lips began to smudge into my make up and just generally looked really awful.

I have tried using this with lipcote and when used in conjuction with this, I was really pleased with the results. As I loved the look of the lip liner and with this it also had staying power. The only thing I find with this though is that it does dry the lips and in such you lose the creamy texture of the lip liner.

I also found that due to the thick, creamy consistency of the lip liner that it did begin to feel a little heavy on the lips and was nowhere near as light as just wearing a lipgloss, or even that of a lipstick.

~~Pros~~
-Lovely colour, which will suit most skin tones
-The contrast of the red and the white-ish colour really gave the impression of fuller lips
-Really creamy/ moistursing texture
-Colours work well together
-Product is often on offer

~~Cons~~
-Does not last long and begins to smudge
-Is quite expensive for a lip liner
-Some may not like the gloss like finish of the white-ish colour

~~Overall~~
I did really like this product as it did give the appearance of fuller looking lips with minimal effort, whilst still being moisturising on the lips. The contrast of the colours did work really well together in order to create fuller lips, whilst the red colour also did well to define my outer lips, again adding to the plumpness of the. I actually really liked the fact that the white colour had a slightly irridescent/ gloss tone to it as it added more depth to the colour of my lips and also added to the fullness of them.

The fact that is was heavy on the lips, smudge and faded really quickly meant that in effect it turned out to be fairly poor product. As I have said, when used in conjuction with lipcote, or the likes of, the staying power definitley does improve and in such I really like the product again, yet this was extremely drying on the lips, hence using the creamy texture which was what I loved about this lip liner in the first place.

Due to the fact that this product has almost no staying power, I can only award this product 3 products because as much as I loved the plumpness it gave my lips, the fact that this only lasted a short while dramatically differs the quality of the product.

Summary: Marvelips is not so Marvelous!
