Advantages: Great Shiny Lipgloss..
Disadvantages: Doesn't plump the lips as much as advertised..
~*~ Introduction ~*~
For Christmas my friend got me a gorgeous set of Soap and Glory products - having known I love the Soap and Glory stuff I was very excited to see it Christmas morning.. Just proves how long I've had this lipgloss floating around in my make-up bag.. I picked it out today after having neglected it for a little while and slicked a little on for the point of this review of course..
~*~ Packaging ~*~
The lip gloss as you can see from the photo comes in a box, with the Soap and Glory logo on and a little window to see the lipgloss through. However mine did not come in a box like this as it came in a gift set that is not available anymore as far as I can find on the boots or the product website.. The packaging that it comes in is all pale pink and white, looking very 60's orientated, which is something that makes it look a bit different to some of the lip glosses out there. However take it out of the packaging and it looks a bit boring in just a clear rube with a black lid that has a little sparkle in - but hey who can fir a whole box an the gloss in their bag with the other things a woman carries round?
~*~ The Claim ~*~
This lipgloss claims that for skinny lipped ladies, you can create a fuller plumper lip, which is slightly obvious given the name of the lip gloss.. The gloss apparently expands up to 10 times in volume when it is applied to your lips.. The idea behind a plumping lip gloss to be honest, if it didn't expand you would be getting slightly ripped off I'm guessing, so there is always going to be a tingling feeling to it, enough to make you feel like your lip volume is expanding..
The shade I have is peach, but it does come in some darker and pinker shades, as well as a neutral shade..
~*~ Does it actually work? ~*~
Well earlier on today I put some of this gloss on and left the house, the funny thing is while I sat by the traffic lights I took a look at my gloss - quickly of course so not to reinforce the stereotype that women do their make up while they sit at traffic lights. I noticed that given I don't have incredibly thick lips naturally, but this gloss didn't make much difference to my lips anyway. The bottom lip, did plump a little giving it a fuller look, but it wasn't enough really to warrant the amount of money that it costs from boots at the moment it is £8 a tube, which is expensive, especially if you have thin lips because it doesn't increase them all that much.
The main thing I don't actually like about this lip gloss is that the second you apply it, it begins to tingle.. Not a tingle however that makes your lips feel fuller or a pleasant feeling, after a few minutes when I first used this I actually went into my bathroom and removed it because it was almost stinging rather than a pleasant tingling sensation, however the more I used it the better it became.. Though today I have to say given the fact it is warm it has been quite useful, as it is not a gloss that melts in the heat, and given the tingle it gives, your lips feel like cold and moisturised, which is great considering in heat you don't want gloss in the corners of your mouth. My boyfriend actually told me stood in the sunlight the gloss has glittery bits in which is being on my face - I hadn't noticed..
This gloss is good for a summers day as it has a nice sweet like smell to it and a thick but not sticky consistency, which is great given the wind would probably mean and loose hairs would be stuck to it - as yet I have never found a lip gloss that doesn't like having hair in it! It lasts a good few hours, but it is not an all day lip gloss in fortunately, and I would defiantly advise giving this a miss if you have sensitive or dry lips because it does give you a nasty stinging feeling in the cracks in your lips.. Also if you apply the gloss outside of your lip line it is prone to making sensitive more sensitive, and I have found it to cause a few small spots along the lip line too so beware if you do buy it to app ly a balm or something underneath so you don't get any discomfort once applied. It is a recommended lip gloss for a little plumping and fullness but it's not the best for dramatically improving your lip fullness. Definitely not worth the £8 price tag it has attached to it, in Boots, given Boots and Harvey Nichols are the only places I have seen this product - except for on the internet of course!
Summary: Expensive, shiny gloss, that can feel very uncomfortable if you have broken skin on your lips..
