I recently purchased a gorgeous black and red 50s style dress, and decided I needed some red nail varnish to go with it. I've never really worn bright red colours, but I did know that Stargazer did a shade that fit the bill, shade 155, (they have a huge colour range) and at only £2.50 would allow me to see if bright red nails suited me without breaking the bank.
These come in nice rounded little pots, with the Stargazer logo across the front in black, with a smart black cap that houses the brush. The brush itself if a nice one- wide enough for two or three sweeps to paint the whole nail, yet delicate enough to allow for touching up the edges without painting all over the cuticles.
Shade 155 is a bright glossy red. There are no peach, pink, or plum tones - it's straight up bright red, which was exactly what I wanted. It applied to the nails easily, though I did note it was a little thinner than other varnishes I had used with a little more potential for mess. It quickly (within 3 minutes or so) dried to a glossy finish ready for a second coat and a topcoat. You do need a second and top coat with this varnish, as it does chip very easily, so really does benefit from that extra layer of protection.
I actually really only purchased this to establish whether the bright colour I had seen would suit me (it didn't, my nails are a little too short to pull of vamp red) and have since passed the nail varnish on to my daughter to use. I don't find stargazer nail varnishes particularly suited to my needs, as they do chip easily, and I'm especially hard on my hands and really do need something solid and long lasting. For that reason, I'm only giving this product 3 stars.
My passion is nail polish, its make up in general really but I love nail polish, due to doing lots of nail art I am always on the lookout for new base coat colours. I had heard about Stargazer nail varnish, but it was only when my daughter brought home a metallic silver shade from town that I pounced and had to hunt them down.
We have a cheap make up shop in town called Mixtures and they sell so many brands of makeup etc, they also sell Stargazer by the ton. They have at least 48 different colours and shades, some glittery, some glossy, so many different types of nail polish and all the colours of the rainbow. They sell them for £1.49 each and I did stock up while I was there. These colours tend not to have actual names but numbers instead. I have bought all of the purple shades and many other colours as well, the glitter ones are quite good, you get a fair amount of glitter transference onto your nails and it tends to lie flat as well.
Coverage with Stargazer can be a bit of an issue, two coats are defiantly needed to get a smooth finish. I also tend to give it a clear coat on top just to boost the shine. The extra glossy shades don't need this extra layer of clear top coat though. I like this nail varnish because it is cheap and it does what you ask it to do, it is by no way the best nail varnish you can buy, it is also not the best for performance as it does chip very easily. Washing up is a demon that it hates as well as to get a decent coverage you have to put a good couple of coats on, then when you wash up the coats peel off quite well.
With this you get what you pay for, if you can get a smooth layer using just one coat, then it lasts a couple of days. If you need to add another coat you are looking one day at most before there is some distress showing. When you only pay a couple of pounds you can't expect it to be that great.
After recently purchasing an eye shadow from the Stargazer company I was interested in trying out many of their bargain offerings. Stargazer is company that not only manufacturers make up but hair dye as well and are known for their vibrant colour options which is why I ended up buying a red eyeshadow from them in the first place! Their stuff is not only colourful but cheap to buy and so when I was back on Amazon I decided to look if they did nail polish and what do you know? They do indeed!
Their range of nail polish colours and finishes is huge. You get neutral colours through to neons, with shimmery, glittery and even crackle finishes. It didn't take me long to opt for the colour but the finish it did and in the end I went for the shade Bright Pink though I could have green, black, electric blue and so on and I paid just £2.49 for my 14ml bottle and that included postage and packaging so I was really pleased with that.
The bottle is not fancy, it simply houses the colour in a round glass jar and it has a black twist on/off lid to the top of it which houses the good quality thin brush and on it we are simply told what brand it is. Its a robust bottle though and doesn't appear cheap or nasty and you can see the colour thorough it.
Well when I received the colour I was really pleased as it looked as bright and vibrant as it did online when I chose it and I couldn't wait to apply it.
Application was simple and easy. It smells as you would expect a nail polish to and is a glossy and rather thick liquid though its still easy to work with. One coat took a couple of minutes to dry and it had applied evenly and was rich and shocking pink in colour. I could have got away without applying another coat had I wanted to and the first time I applied this I used no base coat as I was in a hurry to see what it looked like on but since I have used it with one though I am happy to report that even when I used no base coat and left it on my toenails I experienced no staining even though it was on a week!
Not only is this easy to apply and a really nice pigmented colour it also stayed put without cracking, chipping or fading for a week on my toenails...please note I don't paint my fingernails as I bite them!
All In All:
I don't know about you but when I come across a range of cheap to buy cosmetics I always treat them as an experiment really to see if I can save a few quid on my usual purchases with the attitude that if its no good I haven't lost very much. I am delighted to report though that these are really fabulous quality as well as having a fun range of current and up to date colours. I love the high shine, rich colours and in fact I will be ordering more next time I am on Amazon without a shadow of a doubt!
Google if interested.
WHAT IS IT?
A budget nail varnish that is available in a range of bright colours and effects like crackling and UV reactive.
WHAT SORT OF VARNISHES WILL YOU FIND IN STARGAZERS RANGE?
My favourite Stargazer nail varnish is the black one that is shade 129. This is a shiny black that has got no other tones so it is a very honest black, it's the best black I have used and costs only £2. I have used the UV reactive nail varnishes and they work very well, I think they are the things that the Stargazer range is best known for and they are very popular with clubbing women. One of my regular ladies has me paint her nails with a stunning pink UV varnish and it looks beautiful, I have seen her in an environment where there is UV lighting and the effect is very striking. The normal coloured Stargazer ones are all bright and on trend or very dark.
WHAT I THINK
I think this is very good nail varnish for the price. It chips very easily and that is a disadvantage because sometimes it chips on the same day as when I apply it. I do not think it is very much of a problem because I would only use this nail varnish for certain occasions or going out and I would remove it after.
The black I use needs at least 3 coats and then it goes deep and shiny, before that it is quite dull even though the black is always very black from the first coat. I have got another one in purple but that one does not look as deep when I am wearing it and even lots of coats does not help. When I apply the UV polish on my client I use three coats and this gives a nice colour and bright glow.
It is very easy to remove and even the black is removed with very little effort. It is also easy to apply because the shape of the brush and handle are comfortable in my fingers. The dark shades show up any mistakes or shaky hands but I keep a nail corrector pen next to me to remove any errors at the edges. It is very important to get the UV edges neat because the whole layer of polish glows so mistakes will show you up on a night out, I recommend purchasing a UV light to check the finish before you go out.
4 Dooyoo Stars.
Star Gazer is a cosmetics brand I have been buying products from since I was a teenager, it goes without saying then that I am a massive fan of their make up and especially their nail Polishes.
The company began as a stall in London in the late 70's, it was influenced by the punk fashion and attitude of the era. In the 80's they began branching out and their products are now widely available both on the high street and online. The company make all their products themselves and our constantly adding to their range. They produce a wide variety of cosmetics including Nail Polish, Blushers, Eye Shadows and Mascara. What sets Star Gazer apart from competitors is the unique style of their make up which is bright, colourful and with a alternative edge.
None of their products have been tested on animals.
Star Gazer produce many different nail polishes, including gloss, crackle, chrome, UV reactive and ultra cover. The last three are by far my favourite.
The range of Chrome Polishes are amazing. They come in a wide variety of colours including Silver, Gold, Red and Blue. My favorite is the Silver, once applied to the nail it leaves a metallic shiny finish which is durable and lasts a few days before chipping. I have found that on occasion this polish does leave some streaks and a second coat is sometimes needed, but it is easy to apply and dries quickly. The chrome polishes come in a rounded shape bottle, the bottle is not clear and therefore the actual polish is not visable. The bottle is coloured, so the silver nail polish bottle is bright shiny metallic silver in colour. Although this makes the bottle look quiet cook and unique, I have also found it to be quite annoying as it is difficult to gage how much varnish is left inside. The top is black with the brand name written in silver, this screws off to reveal the applicator brush.
The UV reactive polish comes in a standard nail polish bottle. The bottle base is of a rounded shape with the brand name written in silver on the front. Both the bottle and product inside are clear. The top is black with "UV" written vertically, this screws of to reveal the applicator brush. This polish is designed to be painted over nail polish which has already been applied to the nails, much like a clear top coat. However, once applied this actually glows when under a black light. Of couse this polish is ment for nights out and clubbing and I must admit its been a while since I last applied it. However, i did love wearing this polish and would often get people asking where I had bought it. It was easy to apply and fairly long wearing.
The Ultra cover range have a clear circular bottle and the nail polish is clearly visible through. The bottle has the brand name on the front and a plain black top which again screws off to reveal the applicator. There is a massive range of colours to choose from from regular colours like red and black to bright unique colours like yellow and orange. I love black nails and Star Gazers black polish has to be my favorite. It is easy to apply and only takes one coat (some of the lighter shades may take a few more) I have always found it to be long lasting and takes a couple of days before it begins to chip.
I would highly recommend trying the Star Gazer range of nail polish as not only are they of a high quality but they are also fun, vibrant and unique. I currently buy these from a little alternative shop not far from where I live but they are widely available on the high street and I have purchased them in New Look a few times. Of course they can also be bought online from Amazon. Prices vary but tend to be around £2.50-£3.00.
I got this from New Look for around £2.50 as I wanted a bright colour for a night out I was having, there are also darker colours to pick from.
They have a wide range of colours available but I decided to get the bright pink and at a later time got a dark blue. If bought in New Look students can get a 10% discount on it!
It comes in a circle clear glass bottle which I like as it is different from the usual nail polish bottles available.
You can see the colour you are buying, black lid and the brand name around it.
The brush is quite strong but flexible so its easy to apply and but it doesn't fall apart.
They are easy to open - as long as you clean around the top with nail polish remover to stop it sticking.
It is a good consistency when applying so it goes on easily and evenly, I prefer to apply two coats but you can apply one coat and still looks good, they are nice and bright on and a little shiny but not too much.
You do need a base coat or at least clear nail polish applied before using this as I've found the blue one as its darker stains my nails which is not a good look!
You should only use three movements to apply it once down the middle of nail and once at the sides to make it go on evenly and then apply your second coat in the same way.
Within a day it starts two chip and after two days half of the polish is off your nail, so apply a top coat and it keeps it a bit stronger for longer, but will still chip quickly.
They are quite cheap and you get a wide range of colours available to pick from, applied easily and the colours are nice and bright on and look really nice, the only down side is how quickly and easily they chip around the edges and can take a while to take off.
Despite that I still think they are worth buying!
Star gazer is a name I came across recently when looking for a vibrant hair colour. I was surprised to find the star gazer brand in my new look store and the collection contained hair dye, nail polish, eye shadows and liners and lip stick. The first thing you notice about this range is the vibrant colours it advertises.
I could not resist buying myself a few of the wacky little collection and one thing in particular I had to have was the nail polish. The colour that stood out to me was shade 205 which is an extremely bright neon pink colour.
Star gazer nail polish is slightly different from others around as it has a glass circular shaped bottle which is attractive and makes it stand out. The top is black and obviously contains the brush applicator, apart from that the only other thing on the bottle is the star gazer writing.
The applicator brush is strong and smooth and doesn't leave any unwanted loose brush hairs appearing on the nail. The colour itself is well pigmented and very bright to the point of being luminous which is right up my street. I personally think that this nail polish is used for fun and it is ideal for fancy dress however it isn't the best when it comes to chipping.
Two coats of this polish is needed to create the best full coverage of colour and my nails lasted about a day before they started to chip around the ends making them look tacky and a bit shocking. Since I loved the colour I found myself removing it and applying it again every two days which was a bit of a hassle.
The colour does not stain the nail so even when it has been removed you will be left with no nasty staining which can sometimes happen with brighter coloured polishes. The nail polish cost me around £2.50 which I feel is reasonable considering the colour range is good and it contains certain colours which I have not seen from other brands.
Overall I love the colours of this polish and they really do stand out but as far as staying power is concerned they are a bit of a let down by how easily they chip. For fancy dress parties or dressing up then they are an absolute hit.
Star gazer colours range from pinks, orange, yellow, green, blue and silver and darker colours such as black and midnight blues.
I'm a huge fan of Stargazer products. I love their vibrant colours and their reasonable price tag! I came across the new chrome Stargazer nail polish a couple of months ago and fell in love instantly. I ordered some off Amazon.co.uk and instantly applied it.
The colour itself is extremely intense, unlike a lot of other brands I've tried. It only needs one coat, which dries very quickly so it's handy for speedily painting your nails before a night out!
My only criticism is that it chips rather easily. Within a day of applying the nail polish, and therefore a day of normal wear and tear, the tips had already chipped away. However, on the other hand, where I had another brand of nail polish, the nails were still all perfectly in tact.
Overall, Stargazer is amazing for it's variety of colours and is very reasonably priced for what it is, but I advise wearing only for nights out and not permanently unless you're willing to re-apply it everyday.
I adore Stargazer nail polish!
I first stumbled across it last summer while browsing online at the cosmetic section on New Look's website. Intrigued by the bold and pretty colours available, I proceeded to buy a bottle.
Naturally, a few days later it arrived, and I eagerly got it out of the packaging and unscrewed the top. The colour - a deep navy blue - was true to that of the image online, which was good to discover as I've found that some nail polishes look either lighter/darker online than they do in real life.
Now to put it on my nails. It glided on easily, and I was pleasantly surprised to discover that only one coating would do the job just fine. It also dried very quickly on my nails - yet another advantage!
Regarding price, I purchased this from New Look at £2.50 for a 14ml bottle. However, you can buy a same sized bottle for the cheaper price of £2 from the actual Stargazer website.
Since buying this nail polish from New Look, I was recently disappointed when I found out that they no longer stock as many of the shades as they did last year - in fact, on New Look's website there is only a choice of 4 different colours, a let down as when I bought my first bottle the choice of shades was well into double figures.
However, on Stargazer's actual website, there's oodles of colours to choose from, be it the palest pink to the darkest black - they have it!
To conclude, I higly recommend you try this brand of nail polish - you won't be disappointed!

I love painting my nails all sorts of pretty colours, I generally paint my nails about 3 times a week so it isn't essential that my nail polishes have real staying power. I was having a neon rave themed fancy dress night with the girls and the neon pink Stargazer nail polish caught my eye in the fancy dress shop.
The packaging of Stargazer nail polishes is really simple the bottle is round like a sphere but sits on a flat bottom. The bottle is clear so that it is very easy to see the shade and amount of the nail polish in the bottle. The Stargazer logo is printed around the middle of the bottle in alternate black and white colours. The bottom of the bottle has details such as the shade, Stargazer's head office address, etc. The lid of polish is black and about 3cm tall, it is the perfect size for holding in your fingertips. The lid secures on nice and tightly and I have never had my Stargazer polish leaking although I take it everywhere with me.
The brush is attached to the lid as with most nail polishes, the brush is a nice thickness for applying the nail polish. The consistency of the nail polish is really nice, its not too thick and gloopy but not too thin and watery. The consistency is similar to single cream and teamed with good quality brush the nail polish goes evenly on my nail with about 3 strokes. You do have a few seconds to retouch if necessary before the nail polish becomes tacky. The nail polish then settles nicely and evenly on the nail, I apply to coats to get a nice full even colour.
The first coat is touch dry in about 30 seconds and dry enough for another coat after about 3-4 minutes the second coat is then fully dry in about 10-15 minutes so you can do your nails in 20minutes which I think is average for nail polishes and I find that the fast drying nail polishes never live up to their 60second/1minute speed drying times. I find that the nail polish may begin to chip after a couple of days but if you keep a clear coat on top of the polish and top it up daily it delays the chipping. Also due to the clear colours of these nail polishes it is very easy to tip areas that have started to chip without it being obvious.
These nail polishes are a bargain at £1.99 a lot of little shops stock them and New Look have also started to stock them Stargazer have an amazing website with their wide range of products (honestly there is masses) all available in one place. http://www.stargazer-products.com
I love the bright funky colours that Stargazer nail polishes come in, the nail polishes are cheap and cheerful but definitely hold their ground again other higher priced competitors.
These are the best nail polishes on sale by far! I love Stargazer so much that in the past year I must have purchased around 40 bottles of the stuff! I have been buying Stargazer products now for 2 years from Ebay including eyelashes, bronzer, eyelash glue and eye shadows. I have also recently noticed that New Look have started to sell their products also but are a little more expensive than the seller i use on Ebay.
Stargazer nail polish comes in a 14ml bottles which have black screw on lids and are circular at the bottom. The words 'Stargazer' are written all around the bottle in different colours and ingredient and expiry information are printed on the bottom.
The nail polishes come in many different colours and shades. My favourites are neon pink, glitter blue and turquoise green. There are lots of other gorgeous colours including coral, neon green, black and bright red. These are also available in neon and glitter shades.
My experience of using these nail polishes has been a very positive one. Once applied (you will usually need two coats), the polish is very chip resistant. I wear the polish throughout the week and do a lot of cleaning and washing (having two babies under 2) and I find that this polish stays perfect for at least two to three days before the cracks start to appear.
Once the bottle is opened, it does smell quite strong but I suppose you could expect this from any nail polish. Stargazer is removed very easily with acetone free polish remover and doesn't leave any awful stains on your nails. Once opened, the polish should be used within 18 months.
Stargazer polish can be bought for around £1.49 for a bottle on Ebay which is so cheap! Bear in mind you do have to pay postage and packing on top of that which is usually around £1.00. New Look sell them for £2.50 per bottle which is still quite reasonable for the quality you get.
Overall a great, long lasting and cheap nail polish.
I discovered Stargazer last year, in a little gothic shop that my friend dragged me into. While she was looking at the clothes, I spotted this range of nail varnishes that had so many different colours to what you would normally get, I couldn't help but buy one! Since then I'd almost forgotten about buying anymore since it was from a shop that I wouldn't normally go to but they've recently started stocking the Stargazer range in New Look so I've bought a few more!
The main thing that I love about these nail varnishes is the great range of shades that they come in, I was getting so bored of just have either red or pink to choose from in normal make up ranges, this solved my problem and I picked some more quirky colours that I love! There is such a wide variety, some are glittery, some are very bright neon but some are just normal nail varnish - including gold, metallic blue, glittery red, neon yellow and many more.
When I first bought a bottle it cost me £2.00 which I think is good value, especially when you wouldn't be able to get those colours anywhere else. However if you get them from New Look they cost from £2.50-£3.00, so the little independent shops are the best for these!
The actual nail varnish is very good for the price. You only need one coat, although I normally use one coat of this then a coat of clear to make it last extra long. I find that it takes 2-3 days before it will start to chip, which is really good as most of my nail varnishes seem to chip as soon as I put them on!
I would say that if your looking for different colours, this is definitely a product to try - if you need it for a party then its cheap and easy to find in New Look!
Ive only very recently discovered this make-up range when they started stocking it at my local New Look. I originally only brought the false eyelashes from their range but then I started noticing they had some bright eye-catching shades of nail varnish so I though Id take one of the shades for a test drive! I picked up the bright pink shade "Barbie" out of their extensive range as Im very girly and do love a nice bright pink!
Im glad I tried it out as it is a great nail varnish and I cant wait to try out some more colours from this range!
Different Shades & Colours:
Barbie (bright pink)
Heather (deep purple)
Poppy (dark red)
Purple Pattern (which is actually a silver colour)
Spearmint (sparkly green)
Ribena (dark purple)
Kingfisher (deep blue)
Peach Fizz (neon orange)
+ many many more but you can check out the entire range on the website at the bottom of this review. As you can see from that little list they do have a huge range of colours and shades so there is something for everyone!!
Is It Easy To Apply & Does It Last?
Im terrible t applying nail varnish and always manage to get it pretty much evrywhere except my actual nails! And this was no exception but I would say that more based on me and my nerves than the actual product. I also found I had to apply at least 2 coats to give me a bright and even coverage but I guess that all depends on how bright the individual wants their nails to be! The nail varnish lasted on me about 3 days without chipping which is consider to be quite good because I was at work, doing the cleaning and all other every tasks with it on and it still lasted through all of that!
What Did I Think?:
I loved this nail varnish! And I cant wait till my next shopping trip to New Look so I can buy and try more of the range. Im really into bright and obscure colours to wear so it's like this range was made for people like me, as Ive never been able to find such weird colours on sale before! I like the fact that it lasted without chipping for quite a while as in my opinion theres nothing worse than having nail varnish on that chips every 5 seconds and makes you look well "trampy" also when I applied the varnish I was shocked to find it dried very quickly even though it didnt make any claims about being fast drying, so great if your in a rush to get ready and dont want smudged nails! I highly recommend to women of all ages maybe if your looking for a change from your usual colours.
Price & Stockists:
Ive only even seen this sold in New Look Stores so if you ahve a store near you you can pop in and pick up one of the lovely nail varnishes for around £2.50.
You can also visit www.newlook.co.uk for any more information on colours or ingrediants or even to buy one of these for yourself!
I have always had the habit of looking for the strangest and most obscure colours I can find in terms of make up, so I was thrilled when I wandered into New Look store at the mall and found some dark blue almost indigo coloured nail varnish.
The correct term for the colour of nail varnish I was buying was actually called UV Blue and apparently lights up under UV lighting at clubs and venues though I quite like the shade for what it is. The colour goes slightly metallic with the more coats you paint and the shades of blue do vary a lot depending on how many coats you do.
Other colours In the UV range include yellow, green, orange and pink. Other colours include white, pearlescent purple (which I may also purchase in the near future), black, fuchsia and pearlescent petrol (which is kind of like a metallic really dark ivy green similar to witches brew). The nail varnish come in circular ball like bottles and hold an unexpectedly large amount of liquid.
I personally think that the longevity of this product is much better than any of the big fancy cosmetic ranges and more chip resistant. I have also found that it doesn't smell just as bad as some other nail varnishes I have bought for a similar price. The drying time is much faster than any other blue nail varnish I have tried before and doesn't turn all liquid and nasty as quickly in the bottle either after being open for a few weeks, I bought mine a few months ago and it's still going strong even though I have been using it quite consistently on both my finger and toenails. I would definitely get this brand in the future providing I could obtain it.
I think I purchased my bottle for around 2.99 in pounds which is really great value for the quality and amount of nail varnish you actually get. Alternatively you could go to
and get the bottles for 2pounds each.
I decided to write this review as I was just looking at my past reviews and noticed my Primark one was well recieved.
I don't want to repeat myself but there are a lot of similarities. It is at the lower end of the pricing scale but still a bit more than Primark. I picked up this brand in #125 - not sure of the colours name but it is a nice metalic purple.
It was an impulse buy to match a dress I had bought for a night out. I buy lots of cheapie nail polishes and this has gone happliy into my collection. I have had it about 5months and used half of it. Still a good consistency and the lid doesn't stick. Two thin coats give a good solid shiney colour.
The bottle is a cute little ball shape and to be honest it looks cheap - doesn't bother me but I thought I'd let you know! Like most cheapies it does only last a couple of days but in this shade I can paint in the tips again if I so desire!
It has the benifit of NOT LONG LASTING. I love matching my nails to my outfit and this is easily removed. About 20mins for a polish change including removal for me.
I'm very happy with this product, it is what it is. Give a couple of solid days and then chips to remind me that we all need colour and change in our lives! I'd happily recommend it to anyone.
