Advantages: Lighter pigmentation that normal liner, softer, defines lips

Disadvantages: Doesn't keep the glaze on the lips longer

Lip liner as an item of makeup tends to fall into my "not necessary" pile - I swear it's just a con by cosmetics companies to convince to buy more products we don't need (like I need any more convincing!) I bought this as part of a bargain Stila set of lip products, including a lip glaze, a lip glaze pencil, a lip gloss, and the lip glaze liner pencil, all for only £20! So while I wasn't at all fussed about receiving this, it was a nice to have addition to my little bargain.

The idea is that if you apply this lip liner before your Lip Glaze, the glaze will stay put longer, as well as giving you fuller, more defined lips. Regular lip liners would be too stark against the sheer colour of the glazes and this pencil has been designed by Stila specifically to work with their lip glazes. It comes in Pink, Nude, Rose, Crimson, Melon, Plum, Mocha, Lavender, Brick, Red, Fuschia, and Brown, so there should be a colour to suit every shade of glaze. The colour I have is Pink, which matches nearly all of my glazes. The product is typical of a lipliner - a silver coloured pencil with pink end and plastic lid to cover the tip.

I was slightly disappointed when applying this - while it's not as hard as Stila's regular liner, I'd thought that it would be softer and would melt onto the lips more, but it did drag slightly. The pigment level in this liner is lower than in regular liners, and this does allow it to blend far more easily with the glaze and not stand out. I find that it just gives my lips a nice definition and they do look slightly fuller. However, applying this does nothing to keep the actual glaze on your lips any longer - I think it would need some kind of miracle to achieve that as they are so sheer! Colour wise, the pink is very cool toned and I find it works really well for me - not too orangey like lots of pinks can be.

But when it comes down to it, this is a lip liner. If you are the type of person who wears lip gloss and really likes to use a liner, the chances are you will love this. But let's face it, girls who favour gloss over lipstick tend to prefer the fresher faced look anyway and probably don't use enough makeup to be of the opinion that lip liner is an essential item! And at £11 a pop, like all Stila products it's pretty pricey! Although I liked this as much as I've liked a lip liner, this isn't one I'll be repurchasing, but if you want to look into buying one, you can do from www.hqhair.com.

Summary: If you like lip liner and lip gloss, you'll love this

I agree. Lip liner is too much of a fuss and you have to be extra careful the color will blend in nicely with your lipstick.
