I actually got this lipstick free when I purchased something online from HQhair. I think that must have been at least a year ago, since the lipstick has now been discontinued (although can still be purchased online). I was going to flog it on Ebay, but a couple of months ago I found it still unopened in a drawer and decided I would use it for myself before it went off!
The lipstick comes in a very bland brown cardboard box, so it's some surprise that the actual lipstick itself comes in a rather striking and weighty silver tube, with the Stila brand name embossed onto the base of it (it is different to the one pictured. On removing the lid, the packaging becomes even more stunning, as the inner tube is decorated with silver stars, which I think looks absolutely beautiful. The lipstick itself twists up in a smooth action, and is more than functional as well as being incredibly cute!
The lipstick comes in a huge array of colours - well, if you consider 18 to be a huge array - and some shades are sheer, whilst others contain shimmer. They range from nudes and pinks through to very deep reds and plums, so hopefully there will be something there for all skin tones and all tastes. The shade I have is called 'Jane' and is a relatively subtle pinky brown shade. I was thankful that it was close to something I would have chosen myself as often when companies give away free make-up it comes in horrendous colours, which I wouldn't be prepared to wear in public!
I found that the lipstick went on relatively easily, but at the same time it's not the smoothest or silkiest feeling lipstick I've ever used and it did feel like it was dragging at my lips slightly.
I apply straight from the tube - I do have a lip brush, but I'm normally too lazy to use it - and the pointed tip makes it easy to apply without going over the cupids bow.
I have fairly dark lips to start with, and the colour goes on very sheer and can barely be seen on my lips. What it does do is add a slightly golden sheen to them, and this makes it obvious I have some sort of product on my lips, but not obvious it is a lipstick due to lack of pigmentation.
Whilst I wouldn't go as far as saying that this product was drying to my lips, I don't think it was particularly moisturising either. I could feel it on my lips, which I don't like as it makes me constantly conscious I'm wearing make-up, and it had an unusual texture which felt slightly odd when licking my lips.
The staying power of the lipstick is not brilliant in all honesty. On its own without eating, drinking, kissing etc... it only seems to last a couple of hours at most.
When eating and drinking it pretty much disappears straight away, and I would only recommend kissing wearing this if you want to see what the person you're kissing will look like wearing the lipstick too, as it transfers. For the record, my boyfriend doesn't suit it!
~Price and Availability~
As mentioned at the start of this review, this lipstick is now discontinued. The only place I have found it online is strawberry.net where it costs £13. Personally if I am going to pay in excess of £10 for a lipstick I want something that doesn't come off easily and at least shows up on my lips!
To be honest, I feel the packaging is the best thing about this product. The actual lipstick is not great, the colour is too sheer (although this may be down to the shade I was given, others in the range may be better), it feels too heavy on the lips and it doesn't last very long. I don't think it's worth the price and it's not a product I would recommend.
****Stila Lip Colour****
As lipsticks go i usually buy Estee Lauder but i don't think their colour range is that great. I have tried a few cheaper brands and whilst the colours may be what i am looking for the coverage isn't great. On a recent holiday the other half was paying for a shopping trip so i decided to treat myself to one of these. I decided that if i didn't like it then at least i wasn't paying for it!!
Stila is a department store brand that offers quite a wide range of cosmetics. I have been happy with other products from the range so i was quite confident it would be good.
The packaging for this product is so pretty!! ( a great reason to buy i know)The packaging is a durable aluminium tube which is a white colour. It is then decorated with with little stars or flowers. I think its very nice to look at :-).
i don't think there are as many colours to choose from compared to brands such as Nars but it is available in three formulas: creme, shimmer, and sheer. The colours available are quite nice especially some of the pinks. The lipstick goes on smooth and is great for chapped lips. This has plenty of colour to it but at the same time it is not over the top. This is also long lasting.
**Price/where to buy**
I got this from sephora on holiday and it costs $17 . i haven't seen it in any shops near me but foxyred was saying that she had Stila products in her local Tj huges (is this part of tkmaxx?) so it might be cheaper there.
