A hydrating serum which keeps make up looking good for longer

I love unusual make up products and I love products which improve my complexion. Stila One Step comes under both of these heading and so I had to snap it up.

      What does the product do?
The product is essentially a primer in the form of a serum whose job it is to improve the complexion and to give you a perfect base on which to apply your make up. The product promises to brighten and nourish the skin while improving its tone. It also claims to improve the complexion and to fill in lines, wrinkles and enlarged pores.

On top of all this, it also claims that it will help to control oil production which was a big selling point for me and to hydrate the skin. The product comes with a swirl of three different colours which each have a different purpose. The green reduces redness, the lavender to remove yellow tones and peach to brighten the skin. It sounded like a very exciting product to me!

How do you use the product?
The product is to be applied to clean skin. I use it after moisturising but before applying any make up. I dispense some of the product onto the back of my hand and then I mix the colours together. I then apply the product sparingly over my face, paying particular attention to my cheeks as this is where I have the most discolouration and enlarged pores. Once it has been absorbed, I then apply my foundation and the rest of my make up in the usual way.

      Packaging and Price
The product looks gorgeous and it is very eye catching. It is contained within a clear bottle and you can see the product inside. Inside you can see helixes of the three colours swirled in a diagonal line and they are suspended in a clear serum. The top of the bottle is a black pump mechanism and when you push down on the top, the product is released. The product costs around £24 for 30ml and it can be bought from large department stores as well as from a variety of online websites including Look Fantastic where I got mine.

      Application
The pump is easy to control and the pressure that you apply to the pump allows you to control the amount of product which is released. You don't need to use much of the product to get the desired results as a little goes a long way. The product glides easily onto the skin and it doesn't pull or drag. The colours go clear and blend in with the skin so you're not going to end up with a rainbow face. It feels completely comfortable on the skin and it doesn't leave me feeling greasy or unclean as some serums can, especially as I have oily skin. It is absorbed very quickly by the skin and dries to leave a semi matte surface on which to apply your make up.

      As a moisturiser...
This is certainly a hydrating serum. It leaves my skin feeling moisturised and prevents feelings of dryness or tightness all day. After use, my skin immediately feels silky and smooth.

      As a primer...
I don't have many fine lines or wrinkles yet so I can't comment on that area but I do have enlarged pores and this does fill them in to some extent without going on to cause blemishes. It does seem to increase the staying power of my make up because it helps my skin to stay matte for a little while although eventually the excess oils to still make their way through.

      As a complexion enhancer...
The product does seem to even out my skin tone marginally but it doesn't work wonders in this area. It doesn't even out my skin tone enough for me to consider going without make up. It doesn't really brighten my complexion either as far as I can tell. I think that it may have nourished my skin as with continued use my skin seems to be healthier but I'm not sure if it tones my skin either.

      Conclusion
All in all, this is one of the most eye catching cosmetic products in my collection and I love having it on display in my bathroom. It works ok a base for make up and for covering up my pores which makes my complexion look smoother. It hydrates my skin and leaves it feeling soft and smooth from the very first use. As a skin brightener and a complexion evener it doesn't really do much. This is an average product that I will continue to use but probably wouldn't repurchase but the packaging is one of the best selling points and I don't regret buying it.
