Advantages: Works very well, cheap, doesn't irritate eyes

Disadvantages: Bottle design could be better

As I'm broke and had run out of eye makeup remover, I browsed the shelves in Superdrug for the cheapest option possible. I've often found own brands to be just as effective, and well worth a try for daily staples like this anyway.

So when I came across Superdrug's own eye makeup remover at just £1, it seemed like a good choice. It comes in an 150ml bottle with a screw top lid. It states to be suitable for sensitive skin and fragrance free, so what more could you want?

Well, you could want a product that actually works. Here's the best part, it did! Really well in fact.

I had been using a Simple makeup remover which was a cream, and often found it hard to gauge how much is going onto the pad. With too little, you can't remove a thing, with too much, a blob of cream makes its way into your eye and I don't think anybody finds that particularly fun. So I was quite keen to try a liquid eye makeup remover, thinking it would be easier to work with.

Well unfortunately the bottle isn't helping matters. Rather than having a small hole as a nozzle, so that you can pour the product onto a cotton ball until you reach the desired amount, there is a huge gaping hole. Unfortunately this means that you must completely block it with a cotton ball and tip the bottle over. This invariably leaves the cotton wool slightly more saturated than you had in mind, but I will be experimenting to see if I can find some kind of middle ground.

I realise that it would be entirely possible with the wide neck of the bottle to squeeze some product back in, but it being the first time I've used it I wasn't sure how much I would need and left the cotton ball pretty sodden. This did lead to me getting some in my eye, but it really didn't sting at all so I can vouch for the fact that this is great for sensitive eyes as well as skin!

I have been using this product to remove mascara, eyeshadow and eyeliner, all of which I have had to do some scrubbing to remove with my previous makeup remover. However, with this I was able to use one cotton ball for both eyes, removing all traces of my waterproof mascara without simply smudging it to create panda eyes. What's more, I woke the next morning to find that my face was still make-up free, so I really had got everything and no sneaky mascara had stayed put!

I was very impressed because I really hate having to scrub at my eyes. I do get quite sensitive skin on my eyelids, meaning that some makeup products can irritate me, but this was soothing and gentle and as I didn't have to scrub hard, was overall very comfortable. I find that if I close my eyes and place the cotton ball over my lashes, the mascara is all lifted away without any smudges or stubborn bits that don't want to come off.

Even though the design of the bottle could be better, this is cheap and easy to use so I will continue to use it when this bottle runs out. 150ml is not a huge amount, but now I know how well it works I will be squeezing out the cotton ball a little bit as I don't think all that much is really needed. Therefore I find it extremely economical at just £1 a pop! Highly recommended.

Summary: An effective eye makeup remover at a bargain price.
