Advantages: Cheap and keeps my lips healthy

Disadvantages: None

I love vaseline (Petroleum Jelly) as it's such a great product to use to keep my lips nice and healthy. I have been using the little pocket sized tins for a while, and i'd tried all of them apart from the one in a pink tin - i've always assumed it was tinted or flavoured, and I prefer my vaseline to be fragrance and taste free (personal preference). I saw it a few weeks ago in my local Superdrug and decided to pick a couple of tins up as it was reduced from £1.39 to 99p - I can't resist a good bargain! By buying the vaseline I also got 20 points on my Superdrug beauty card (5 points per tin) which is a nice little extra.

The packaging of this vaseline is adorable. It comes in a little circular pocket sized tin which is made of a lightweight metal. It is a nice bright pink colour with silver writing on the lid. The writing reads 'the little pink tin' and has the Superdrug star logo on the left hand corner. It also has SPF 15 written in smaller writing, letting the customer know that this particular product contains SPF 15, which acts as a sunscreen and protects your lips from the harsh rays of the sun which is pretty good for the price of the product. The tin contains 20 grams of product which I feel is a generous amount. The packaging is definetly aimed at females and it is very cute - it makes a nice change from the usual blue and white packaging, although to be honest I do prefer the usual blue and white retro tin as it's more sophisticated, lol. The only downside to the tin is that the lid is quite hard to prise off and I often resort to using my nails to pull it open - i'd much prefer it if it could be screwed straight off rather than having to screw it and then prise it off - it would be much easier and would save time. Because the lid is secure and the tin is pocket sized, it is an ideal product to take out and about so that i've got some handy whenever my lips feel dry. The tin is small enough to fit into my pocket or bag without any issues.

The vaseline its self is identical in appearence and texture to normal vaseline - it's a creamy off white colour with a soft, slightly waxy texture. There is no noticeable scent to this, apart from the very (and I mean very!) subtle smell that you get with normal vaseline which isn't unpleasant and it is barely noticeable. It doesn't smell like strawberries or anything like that. I think the packaging leads people to believe it is scented due to the colour, as normally a pink tin reflects a strawberry or raspberry flavoured lip balm, plus it isn't made clear that this is vaseline unless you are aware of the mini vaseline tins range. Applying the vaseline is simple. I just rub my finger over it until I have a decent amount on my finger (this process takes a matter of seconds as the texture is soft enough to be picked up easily, rather than having to spend a few minutes rubbing my finger along the top to warm it up/melt it). I think run my finger along my bottom lip, leaving a thin layer of the vaseline, and smack my lips together. The vaseline isn't sticky or greasy if you apply a small amount but it can become blobbed up and greasy if you apply ridiculous amounts. It leaves my lips looking nice and healthy and moist with a very slight glossy shine. It absorbs very quickly with minimal effort - I barely need to rub it in. It soothes dry and cracked lips and helps avoid chapped lips in the winter as it keeps them nice and hydrated. Taste wise, it's doesn't really taste of anything, which I personally like, but some people may prefer a flavoured lip balm which is fair enough.

Overall, I personally love this. It acts amazingly well as a lipstick base as it smoothens out cracks and stops the lipstick from drying my lips out. The pocket sized tin is handy and also lasts for a while - i've had mine for around 2 weeks and it looks barely touched although i've been using it daily. It has a nice effect on my lips and keeps them soft and moisturized, and i've also used a bit on a patch of eczema that I have, and weirdly enough it seemed to soothe it. I would definetly reccomend the little pink tin. It is effective and affordable, and I award it 5 out of 5 stars!

Summary: A great little product :)
