The Body Shop All In One Face Base
Advantages: Don't feel like your wearing foundation, coverage and finish
Disadvantages: No longer available in refills
I have been using this foundation/powder for a long time and find it fantastic so I thought I'd share my opinion with you.
I've never been a huge foundation fan and I can't bear the feeling of having something on my face and when this was recommended to me years ago I tried it and loved it. It combines a concealer and foundation in one so it covers slight blemishes as well as evening out tone, if I have a small red spot this powder will cover it pretty well.
It comes in a round silver flip top compact with the Body Shop logo on, and when you flip open the top the sponge is sitting there on top of a plastic panel. When you remove the sponge and open the plastic panel it has a mirror on the other side and the foundation solid powder. You can apply the powder either dry or wet. I always apply dry, so I just use the sponge to sweep over the foundation and then straight onto my face. I cannot feel this foundation on my face and it gives a good even coverage with a matte finish. I did try applying it by the wet method once, which just involves dampening the sponge slightly and then applying but I found it looked thicker on my face and I prefer the more natural look, like I'm not actually wearing make-up! By comparison, I was lucky enough to be given a sample kit of ID minerals powder foundation for Christmas and this feels the same on your skin, meaning that you can't feel it, so if you're looking for an alternative to the mineral powders then this is definitely worth looking at.
The product also contains things that are good for your skin which are (taken for the website):
Vitamin E - Is an antioxidant that helps to soften, condition and protect the skin.
Marula oil - Is a very effective moisturiser that also helps to condition the skin over time. Also provides essential fatty acids that help to repair the skin's moisture barrier, thus helping to restore moisture, smoothness and suppleness.
I use this every day for work and I find it works great. I would say that it lasts for most of the day though I can have a bit of shine coming through by the end of a working day.
It is available in all Body Shops, in five shades, and online for £11.70 at the moment with the VAT cut and I got my most recent last week at a Body shop at home party for under a tenner as there has been a 20% deal off on all make up, but I couldn't say if this offer is still running. This may sound a lot but I find that it lasts me at least 9 months and it says on the back good for 18 months. What does disappoint me though is that I used to be able to buy refills for the compact, which worked out better value for money and also not throwing away so much packaging every time I finished with it which I would have thought would appeal more to a company like the Body Shop but that is my only complaint about the product.
I would recommend this product to anyone who like the minerals products or doesn't like the feeling of a thick foundation on their face or just to try as an alternative to their usual foundation.
Summary: Great for those who don't like to feel they are wearing make up
